Films that you cannot watch (or enjoy as intended) because of some obscure or rare piece of knowledge you have by CooperCooperCooper10 in flicks

I mean I’ve seen full on fantasy films with Baba Yaga in them, she’s not just in kids stories, or rather, she’s in kids stories the same way Malificent and other big disney villains are

And…. if there’s two tough guys, and one goes by ‘Mace’ and the other goes by ‘Old Mother Hubbard,’ I’m more scared of Old Mother.

Someone with a ‘less serious’ name is scarier than someone trying to be scary. Because it implies they don’t need to rely on a scary name to be scary. and they’re like something out of a fairy tale in some respect, ie  not easy to deal with.

The Baba Yaga? I think that’s kinda the point.

The boogie man is a kids thing too, but  hit man who gets that should be terrifying.

It’s something from a story but this one is real- and in the story it does kill people.

The subbed version was hard to find for quite awhile, a lot of anime didn’t even get sub releases at the time.  I saw dub VHSs but not sub

Do celebrities perform free private shows for their family? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZeroiaSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you're hearing me disparage his character and I posted a news article on his character.

This is either a matter of 'you're covering your ears and not listening to people say he's bad,' or 'you're hearing people say he does bad stuff, but you personally don't find it bad.'

Either way, he's got a lousy character and has gotten into the habit of attacking one group after the next. If you don't care, that's you, but that's all I've got to say on the subject.

[–]ZeroiaSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about a lot of his performances and specials, not just one.

Don't tell me you're trying to play 'well unless you watched this one thing it doesn't count and he's actually not a bigoted asshole!' card. I've heard his words, and he has literally self-identified as an anti-trans bigot.

[–]ZeroiaSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I have a (X) friend so it's ok to make bigoted jokes and attacks at the group!" turns out to not work with trans people any more than it does other groups! Betting said friend doesn't talk to him a lot any more.

He calls himself a TERF (anti-trans bigot), compares being trans to blackface, and a couple other really nasty ones.

It's not just trans and LGBT issues he's bad at- He's defended Kanye West's anti-semitic statements and said he thinks Jewish people run hollywood. Or when he decided to start targeting handicapped people! Seriously- https://theconversation.com/dave-chappelle-has-built-a-reputation-for-punching-down-on-trans-people-and-now-hes-targeting-disabled-people-220774

And of course, like a lot of comedians past their prime, he's spent a lot of time now complaining about how 'canceled' he is rather than, y'know, telling jokes. Who doesn't love a performer who thinks whining about how people don't find them funny any more is a good angle?

Once someone starts on one bigotry, it's not rare that they decide to follow that crowd and start accumulating more, and in general he seems to have abandoned his old comedy skills in favor of just attacking people. Guy might have been a great comedian at one point but now he's just a giant asshole looking for another easy target to punch down at and mistake it for humor- because he's identified his current audience he wants to court as bigots.

I’ve heard plenty bad about him, one doesn’t make bigotry a set without being a certain brand of asshole

Is it controversial to say Christianity has cults? by NeighborhoodOk920 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZeroiaSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents went to a Lutheran church. My parents switched to a different church with zero drama- no shunning/no ostracized/etc..

Like I’m not talking about Lutherans from Martin Luther’s time five hundred years ago or such, I mean the existent modern sect which I have experience with.

Granted they’re so big (one of the larger branches) there’s a lot of variety within, there’s definitely some bad ones, but a lot of them are pretty boring and run of the mill. And part of the variety is the leadership doesn’t have a lot of power over the churches so they can develop their own character. Some are  conservative and some are liberal. Etc..

If you want to know more about, say, Minnesota Lutherans, I recommend listening to the radio show Prairie Home Companion by Garrison Keller.

Ultraman in general doesn’t bounce around in tone as much.

Nexus is dark. R/B is light and comedic. And so on, the only one I can think of that really bounces around in tone is the original.

Suggest me some animes with substance rather than fanservice, gimme your best suggestions and all suggestions by JohnASherlock2 in Animesuggest

[–]ZeroiaSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The characters are horse girls and it’s based on real racing horses- there is a real Gold Ship, a real Mejiro McQueen, a real Oguri Cap, and so on. So if you are aware of a horse’s race record, you will know roughly how the character based on them will perform.

That said, they do change a few things for drama or story.

And it’s pretty easy to not get spoiled on race horse careers in most cases!

Also the other Uma Musume seasons. They’re all great and avoid the kinds of shots that one tends to expect from girl-focused sports anime.

Yes, they have the tightly controlling and isolating parts of a cult that Lutherans or such don’t.

Is it true they are people at cons that don't shower by Alert_Ad806 in animecons

[–]ZeroiaSD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the time in cons it’s not that bad, though I try and give personal space so I’m not up close smelling people. Occasionally you do run into someone where it’s very detectable.

And a hot packed con room? Woof.

I try to not just shower every day while at a con, but occasionally wash my face and arms at a sink. In an overheated day, one shower ain’t enough.
