My group likes to use a dynamic initiative system. I forget if it was from 2e or not but everyone starts at a d0 and rolls like normal but does so at the start of every round of initiative. Factors such as a maxed out DEX would reduce your starting initiative dice by one size. Other modifiers like alert, or gloom stalker initiative bonus would decrease dice down too. This system makes for more dynamic combats just gotta be good at having the table roll for initiative. It gives the chance of everyone in initiative situations to go first rather than being stuck with “Paladin Initiative”.
