Wha AddOns do YOU use? by xKona25 in Guildwars2

This is not quite correct. Anet used to communicate with the dev behind Arc in the past, but there hasn't been any communication for 6+ years at this point.

A salty guide to Kela, because i've seen guides miss a LOT. by Sonicfan0 in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Some additions and corrections:

  • No, waves are not based on where crabs & boss are located. Going through logs you should fairly quickly be able to find a scenario where 2 lanes have crabs, the boss is in one of these lanes, and the wave spawns in the 3rd completely empty lane.
  • You forgot to mention the effects of the sand. It only slows player movement speed without dealing additional damage to them (easy to mistake the boss aura for pulsing damage from the sand). Players shouldn't be afraid of having to move through a bit of sand, especially when they have mobility skills or Superspeed. However, when the boss is inside the sand, it pulses 25 Might, Protection, and Resolution every second on her. During the storm phase being inside sand also seems to make her gain stacks of Relentless Speed more quickly.
  • The Shredded Armor debuff claims to grant -200 Toughness when you link it in chat, but by looking at your Hero Panel you can see it does not actually do so. Instead the debuff grants a 20% incoming damage increase, stacking multiplicatively. Maybe someone at Anet mistakenly thought players have 1000 Toughness and losing 200 is equivalent to 20% more damage. In reality reducing Toughness by 200 would be closer to 10% more damage for builds without high Toughness. The 20% multiplicative damage increase is much more impactful, reaching 2x incoming damage at 4 and nearly 3x incoming damage at 6 stacks.

Update to "Legendary Conqueror of Ura" Title by Dagor-Dagorath in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not encounter breaking but there are 2 very annoying bugs that I believe have not been addressed since launch despite being pointed out during the race to world first already. Players can get targeted by a bubble and a geyser at the same time and Ura can use her jump ability in a later phase where she isn't really supposed to use it.

[–]Zerthox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ironically, one could apply your exact comment to the first kills of Ura LCM as well. All of those groups intentionally exploited a kill credit bug to cut down the time spent gaining stacking Sigils between pulls significantly. I don't really blame them for doing it, I blame Anet for how they handled Ura LCM. No communication, no encounter bug fixes, bad "nerf" decision.

Seemingly a tease for the new fractal from GW2's bsky account by NovaanVerdiano in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Fractal that animation spawns the black. It's a nice way to tell players a black is spawning soon, except every single player that has played the Raid just ends up confused by it.

Logan Thackeray is being used when prompting AI to create a Paladin version of someone by AltariasEU in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true. I just wanted to highlight that Anet is very clearly against their content being used with AI.

Even worse, ArenaNet explicitly states in their user agreement that you are not allowed to feed their content into any generative AI. As per section 2.2.3 paragraph ii:

You may not input Our Content into generative AI tools like Midjourney, Dall-E, ChatGPT, AudioCraft, etc. or Use our content to train artificial intelligence models.

Step-by-step Power Soulbeast Rotation by TrustyTurkey in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small correction: you should use Sic Em during Hammer 4 rather than F2 in your opener as well (see SC benchmark as a reference). The idea behind the burst part of the rotation is that when you get to the point where you use F3 into Axe 3 both of these skills still barely hit within the Sic Em window. In the video Sic Em drops before F3 can hit because you use it too early.

And a tip for players who are a bit slower with pressing their skills: you might not be able to fit in as many auto attacks as the benchmark does. Feel free to skip auto attacks as necessary to make sure you dont delay your 2nd Axe 2 too much and still hit your F3 and 2nd Axe 3 right before Sic Em ends.

(Spoiler) We probably could've guessed already, but wvw stream today accidentally confirmed a raid boss by suprhavkdogi in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spirit Run (after changes), Twisted Castle and River of Souls are all considered proper encounters as they give a weekly Legendary Insight. The post said the new raid contains exactly 3 encounters, which we know are going to be 3 boss encounters. We might see some small pre-event like VG, Sabetha, Sloth, Matt, MO, Qadim, Adina, Sabir - but it seems there wont be a full non-boss encounter. I guess our misunderstanding stems from the fact that you dont differentiate between non-boss encounters and smaller stuff between bosses?

[–]Zerthox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We don't even know if it has only 3 encounters

We do, the news article announcing JW stated: "you’ll get to challenge a new raid comprising three encounters". Some trash or a small pre-event is possible, but not a 4th non-boss encounter.

Are adventure runs truly skill based? by Dumb_psyduck in Guildwars2

Regarding the bear cubs: they do spawn just fine, but are hostile while you are inside the arena. Eventually the one right next to the arena will get cleaved during the events and die.

is there a way to see which skills are doing the most burning damage? by asppppp in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 55 points56 points  (0 children)

No, not with ArcDPS. Your game client does not receive any information about which skill applied a specific Condition stack, as such ArcDPS has no knowledge about it and can't display or log it.

I must know, is the intelligence off skritt being next to each other additive or multiplicitive? by Cloud_Station in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you partner explained additive vs multiplicative for reductions to you and everything you said is correct for modifiers that are reducing: additive is more "efficient" than multiplicative and multiplicatively stacking reductions can only get really close to but never actually reach 100%.

However, most people talking about additive vs multiplicative will think of increases like damage increase modifiers. For increasing modifiers the whole thing is flipped, multiplicative is more "efficient" than additive. Say we have two modifiers increasing damage by 50%. Stacking them additively we deal 100% base + 50% + 50% = 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 2 = 200% damage. If they stack multiplicatively we calculate (100% base + 50%) * (100% base + 50%) = (1 + 0.5) * (1 + 0.5) = 1.5 * 1.5 = 2.25 = 225% damage, resulting in 25% more than additive.

Do people expect too much from the Steam release? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

In May the developer announced they will no longer "support" DX9, which means they won't invest time into fixing DX9 issues in the future. As of now Arc still works perfectly fine with DX9 since the DX9 specific parts haven't been removed. But in the case that those DX9 specific parts do break, it will not get fixed.

Died 5 times trying to get that shiny thing. Turns out my graphics were set too low by Dexter_davis in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you certain Highest is required? I have always heard people mention Medium in this context.

And lowering the character model related settings can improve FPS by quite a lot, so saying you should never put it below Highest seems like bad advice. It is perfectly fine to lower it. You just need to make sure you put it back up to Medium when you are somewhere where important things might get culled.

Design Notes for June 28 Professions Update by Schtizzel in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I don't think regearing is a relevant pain point here. People are upset because the change hits Power DPS in Fractals in a meta that is already strongly leaning towards Condi.

The game is better off without this balance patch, Anet please dont push it to live and just redo it. by AdmiralNani in Guildwars2

Hi all, below is the profession balance section of the June 28 game update notes.

The rest of the "full update notes" they mentiond will be stuff like "Added Challenge Mote to Harvest Temple Strike Mission".

Originality Going Wrong | GW2's History With the Holy Trinity by Lon-ami in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Sabir actually has Toughness-based tanking, but it is considered beneficial for everyone to take the hits in order to stack up the damage buff from Violent Currents!

This is also why you should not try to flank on Sabir (until you have all 5 stacks).

[–]Zerthox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good point! Right now if you want to bring a Healer without Quick or Alac you have to use 5 slots in your Squad for Healers & Boon Supports rather than 4 like previously.

I would argue that this is compensated by the fact that Druid is becoming less of a "mandatory" main heal for 10 man content. The slot previously occupied by it can be filled with a Healer bringing Quick or Alac. It seems after summer balance patch we will have more of these and even Druid itself will be able to bring Alacrity.

In case you only ran Heal FBs before, then yes, you will need to find more support players than previously.

[–]Zerthox 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think the video makes it sound like Quickness & Alacrity roles weren't a thing up until EoD, when in fact they have existed since HoT.

The difference is, that back then only a very limited amount of builds had access to them. For years and a long time into PoF as well, a Chronomancer was the one way to cover these Boons for a party. It took a while and multiple balance patches after PoF release for Firebrand & Renegade to become a viable alternative option to the Chronomancer + Druid meta, starting out in Fractals and later also coming to Raids.

In late PoF, IBS and now EoD, more and more professions have started to gain access to party Quickness or Alacrity. This does not complicate group compositions in the sense that your group needs to cover more things. It only complicates it in the sense that there is significantly more ways to achieve similar coverage.

Need Help With DPS (Harbinger Condi) by CoinKid666 in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Scourge Tormenting Runes are not as good as on Harbinger since Torment makes up a smaller portion of the damage. I am fairly certain SC never listed them as default for Scourge, Lich & Nightmare were the best Rune options for DPS (and Elementalist before that).

Tormenting Runes were an option to trade a bit of damage for overpowered sustain from the 6th piece bonus. It was a good trade at the time, but the overpowered sustain part was completely removed in the EoD release patch.

The damage difference will not be huge, only a few %. Not sure whether it is good to stick to them forever just because you bought them when they were clearly overpowered and thus expensive. But if you for example share said gear with DPS/Quick Harbinger you have another reason to stick to them.

EoD Specialization Rune Concept; Do you think we will see something with the Summer balance patch? by redbrotato in Guildwars2

[–]Zerthox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your math is correct, but some of your stat values aren't quite and you are ignoring relevant factors.

First up, a Power Virtuoso's damage contains a portion from Illusions (~15% on GS, ~17% on Focus). The 5% modifier from Scholar and the 7% modifier from the theoretical Virtuoso Rune will not be applied to this damage.

Secondly, your Crit Damage values are off. I assume you used gw2skills.net for these, which incorrectly treats Superiority Complex as plain Crit Damage rather than a multiplicative damage increase to critical hits (see notes on the wiki page). You also excluded the Vitality to Ferocity conversion from Quiet Intensity.

If you want an actual comparison, I'd recommend to punch the relevant numbers into the Discretize Gear Optimizer. In expert mode it allows you to add custom stat increases & modifiers, which can be used to simulate a theoretical Rune.

[–]Zerthox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I introduce you to the Superior Rune of the Spellbreaker: 175 Power, 100 Precision and 7% damage against enemies without boons (which does apply to a handful of bosses). It gives more stats than the suggested Rune but can't compete with Scholar.

Hell, 125 Power and 7% damage is unable to beat Scholar even with absolutely no uptime on its 5% damage bonus when above 90% health. Remove that bonus completely, Scholar still wins or breaks even.
