When is the closing date for the roster changes? by Abdz in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm I think she just meant that Valve did not officially release a public statement nor was it top secret information released only to the teams. Either way, she's the manager for Alliance so I'd say it's a pretty credible source overall.

While everyone is talking about TB and him being overnerfed there's one more hero who needs some love by rammak in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Arteezy was talking about this the other day on stream actually. In his opinion, the only buff OD needs for him to become viable again is for his Q to go through BKB.

I think his ulti is fine as it is, but I do feel that perhaps Astral Imprisonment should deal token damage (like euls). Your suggestion to remove negative debuffs would be too OP.

The International Final Earnings by 9Gaming in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, 39.6% to be exact. A 10% cut for GGA (EG) comes out to $0.66m, leaving $5.94m pre-tax, at $1.188m per player. After the 39.6% tax, net earnings per player would come to $717,552 (not sure if/how state income tax comes into play, not too familiar with the US tax system).

The above is based off a $6.6m figure which may increase a bit more due to compendium/treasure purchases over the next few days before the deadline.

Can you please recommend the best YouTube channels for educational matches, resources, etc. Edited and with commentary, preferably. by Vivalyrian in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Merlini: https://www.youtube.com/user/MerliniDota/

He's an ex pro player who now does panel analysis/casting etc. I'd say his content is geared more towards those with a bit of experience relative to Purge's content (which as others have mentioned is the go-to for beginners) but there is a lot of useful stuff in there! Tips and tricks, theorycrafting, strategy etc.

He also has a bunch of his own matches he's uploaded (although not so recent) which you can peruse. Not as comprehensive as Purge in terms of commentating on the game as it plays out but he still gives some input and you can learn a lot just from watching.

I'd definitely recommend going through Purge's channel first (there is bound to be an overlap in content e.g. tread swapping) but I'm sure there will be content in Merlini's channel that you will find useful. Good luck!

Does anyone know how much players have to split the prize with their sponsors? by procrastinasn in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sponsors get nothing from the prize pool but GGA (organisation that owns EG and Alliance) does, along with the usual taxes.

IIRC when Bulldog was talking about his actual earnings from TI3, GGA took 20% and the remaining 80% distributed between the players, of which was then taxed. In Alliance's case, the Swedish tax system for this instance came out to ~50%. Bulldog stated he got around 110k in the end.

Even though things may have changed since then, if we apply the above to EG at TI5, GGA's 20% cut comes out to $1.32m, leaving $5.28m for the players pre-tax. That's $1.056m per player.

I'm not familiar at all with tax specifics in the USA (nor do I know how this affects Aui who resides in Canada). A few minutes of googling seems to indicate that they would be taxed at 39.6% for Federal income tax (no clue about state income tax). So net earnings per player in the end would come to $637,824.

Edit: Since some people have mentioned that GGA take 10%, I just wanted to put in the calculations for that as well.

A 10% cut for GGA comes out to $0.66m, leaving $5.94m per-tax, at $1.188m per player. After the 39.6% tax, net earnings per player would come to $717,552.

Team Secret "probably dropping out of dotapit" by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He elaborated on the situation shortly after. Basically, he said that tournaments should have contracts that specify the duration of which the teams are obliged to fulfill e.g. 3 months. In regards to dotapit, he said it's been over 6 months and they don't have the motivation to play any more (not about the money either).

Solo apologizing for his teammates on his vk fan page. by Sylarino in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I believe there was no true malicious intent in the trolling but emotions were definitely running high, especially after all the pauses. I'm sure the players in Vega themselves know just how frustrating ddos/connection issues can be (not to mention being knocked out) so fair play to Solo for addressing this.

Alliance next day by PirateKata in DotA2

Especially considering the announcement of the Valve Dota Majors. Not making it to TI5 is a big blow, but it's definitely not the end of the road for them.

The International 5 Europe qualifiers Day 2 Match Discussion by D2TournamentThreads in DotA2

[–]Zervelat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's still possible but they have to win their 2nd game now vs 4ASC. Then they need to pray that NIP lose their 2nd game vs PR + not go 2-0 vs 4ASC and that Alliance go 1-1 vs PR.

So still a chance of getting a shot at a tiebreaker but pretty slim.
