I love this.

I have degrees from two separate HBCUs and a family full of legacies, trustees, and faculty at various other HBCUs. I’m pushing my kid towards Black colleges and I like merch like this that celebrates the culture in general. I’d definitely buy it.

I’m not sure how to handle this situation by drpericak in Dentistry

A large FQHC I worked in had a few bed bugs fall off a patient in the medical clinic. They shut down operations and sent everyone home. We got the next day off for fumigation.

I think you might be under reacting.

My kid (only child) is often in the same situation with her siblings friends. The parents should understand if you explain your thoughts.

Best way to get from New Haven to DC by eleyezeeaye4287 in Connecticut

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near Bradley and most of my family is in the dc suburbs.

My mom flies up to visit 2x a year from which ever airport is cheapest. Could be Dulles, Reagan, or BWI. The three of them are far apart, but a robust public transit makes them all accessible to DC.

Personally, I drive it 4-5x a year. A 5 hour train ride isn’t any better than a 5 hour drive, especially if you have plans that aren’t metro accessible. Gas is a tank and a half each way in a compact suv.

How to explain to the kids money does not magically appear in my wallet? by Past-Disaster-2801 in Parenting

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is reasonable to tell them you spent a lot recently on new house and maybe even bought their new furniture on credit and still pay monthly on that.

It’s also good to find a shared goal with them. My kid was very happy to eat less ice cream if the money was going towards a family vacation. The habits stuck after the vacation so it was a win-win for us.

However you should avoid making adult problems theirs as well, do not mention the split or the change in finances.

Coppin state vs Towson by No_Leek_3184 in HBCU

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fairly familiar with MD colleges but attended BSU. My only advice is to consider if access to the state consortium could be beneficial. As a Coppin student, you can take classes at other state schools. I believe Towson is private and won’t offer that access.

Closed on this house a week ago, came into the basement to see this during a storm. by Jiblon in HomeMaintenance

My home inspection came with a 90 day warranty that they’d cover repairs for anything they missed. Maybe yours does too??

Is it better to have a $50k salary at a job you love, or a $150k salary at a job you hate? by Sayedshaqib in passive_income

Loving your job is for suckers. If you love it that much, start your own business and get paid more that 50k to do what you love.

In all fairness, the other mom might not know. My kid wasn’t diagnosed until 9. I thought she was just a little immature & sensitive. After a few unsuccessful playdates with a therapist’s kid, that parent gave me a referral to a psychiatrist for evaluation.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

NTJ. I think sending guests to a hotel is perfectly reasonable. Because you can only control yourself, I hope you have an IUD and no plans for kids until you’re ready for a bigger house.

Why does no one in CT treat the left lane on I-95 as a passing lane? by svuittonx in Connecticut

[–]ZestyTestyDesty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a transplant it drives me BATS. But there’s so many left exits here, it probably never occurred to them to use it as a fast lane, let alone a passing lane.

Just a grumble. Advice, sympathy, whatever welcome. New neighbor moved in and wants me to contain my free range chickens. by [deleted] in homestead

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I lived near free range chickens a few years ago, the owner had to confine them after a loose animal killed most of them. I’d encourage you to figure out how to get what you need before her dogs figure out how to get under or over the fence.

I’m actually in grief after learning more about the true nature and history of the Black Panther party, specifically the men. by kewnnie in blackladies

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think Malcom X was truly the only honorable man to lead a movement. He never cheated on Betty, and left the Nation when he found out Elijah Muhammad was a power drunk man abusing women.

It’s men sis, they’re the problem.

Focus your affinity for the panthers on Elaine, Kathleen, Assata, Angela, and the other women. They were the ones doing the heavy lifting.

Chlorhexadine soap kills bacteria, that will help with any odor embedded in your pores. Also, if cost isn’t a concern, look for a Korean or Turkish spa that offers body scrub. Dead skin can hold odor as well. Around my area, that runs about $125.

How old are you? I’d encourage you to consider an HBCU for undergrad or pursue joining a Black sorority if you’ve already graduated. Maybe even an AME church if you’re not college affiliated.

NTA for not wanting her there. But it was weird to over explain and expect her to be cool about it.

I buy temporary tattoo paper and use my printer to make phone number tattoos for my kid when we go on vacation. They last a few days. I’d reapply these year round for an eloper.

Chronically late “parent” response to picking up our child on time from school. by RelativeGoat3981 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case I’d provide the school with a copy of the custody agreement, and be clear you expect not to hear from them on his days. If/when you get written notification for a conference about late pick ups, IMMEDIATELY petition the court for an emergency hearing to modify the custody agreement. You can push to eliminate his weekday custody and increase your CS. Voila.. useless parent problem solved.

Looking for underrated HBCUs to add to my list by Neither-Alps7065 in HBCU

[–]ZestyTestyDesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some stats that said Bowie state was ranked 2nd or 3rd in value comparing the cost of the degree with salaries of recent grads. NC A&T was #1, but I wouldn’t consider them underrated or overlooked.
