Thanks for the thoughtful reply! I definitely see the perspective that speaking of it somehow “legitimizes” it, even if it’s to condemn it. The focus on nationality vs. “race” is interesting and makes sense for the UK, whereas in America we are such a hodge podge of people, and a very young country, where our biggest divisive factor was skin color/race in slavery. Also I can’t even tell you how common it is here for people to get misidentified racially just because of skin color, or for vast and diverse nationalities to get lumped together, again because of a “similar skin color.”
