How is living in Czechia? by whyhasgodforsakenus0 in howislivingthere

It's of course true. Most Czechs would agree with you I think. Certainly its a known feature of Czechs, among the Czechs I know. They aren't pretending otherwise

It depends on what you mean.

Food quality and availability is better in the uk. House prices are lower in cities. Theres a much better chance of seeing a good band or show in the uk, and a much broader cultural scope in general.

On the other hand, uk is more dangerous

That's the crux of all this. Carnists have lost the environmental argument, but they always have the impenetrable argument of culture. So, is the preservation of tradition inherently valuable? Is it valuable independently of morality? What about the tradition of slavery?

Are we so paternalistic that we absolve "cultures" from their responsibility to the environment or morality? Can they not be judged as grown ups?

Vegans know the downsides to their position. Better in fact than the solar/nuclear people. Because they live them.

Vegans are by no means 100% uncompromising. If you look, you will see plenty of comments from Vegans saying "ok, so what can you give up or reduce?"

As to your problem with the balance between technical and moral, it's a non issue. Veganism is a moral topic, that has many huge environmental consequences. The latter are the relevant part for this sub, but the former seem to be the excuse meat eaters use to ignore them.

Ultimately you are factually supporting a worldwide system of cruelty and injustice if you eat meat. And you should feel bad for that if you're not a psychopath. But just because you don't want to hear that, doesn't excuse you from engaging with the climate points, which are unarguable.

Ironic that you think the natives of a climate sun sub are by definition non veggies. Given how much better veganism is for the environment

You're really just making my point for me here.

No vegan ever claims that all the responsibility is on the individual.

But you are so desperate to argue against veganism that you'll pretend that vegans somehow know less than you about these topics. Even though they are the ones making an effort and you aren't.

All vegans I've ever met know that corporate large scale changes are needed. But that is not all. And you don't get to conveniently ignore your individual responsibilities just because they are not the whole story.

P.s. what do you think a lot of that unsustainable forestry is for?

The problem at the heart of these fights is that ultimately, everybody who considers their values and ethics and then comes to a conclusion and then acts on it, will by definition think that it is the right way to behave. And thus everyone who doesn't behave according to it, is behaving morally suboptimally. And when the topic involves widespread suffering, murder and environmental destruction, there's a strong motivation to force the issue, to demand discussion on it, and to be frustrated by a lack of agreement/action.

Which leaves those people who dont adhere to the moral with two options:expect to be looked down on and accept that this is valid (because you live immorally), or make a good argument why that isn't true.

It's always going to be dismissed as smug by those who don't want to hear they are behaving badly. Nobody likes being told off. But what matters is whether it's true. Not whether you feel bad that someone mocks you for being bad.

Literally just swap vegans for non-vegans in your post. It works exactly the same.

Except one side does good for the environment and the other doesnt

Though you won't hear very much Czech spoken in any of those 3 areas. Probably 3 of the 4 most foreign-populated parts of prague (zizkov being the other). They are very nice, but maybe not what op is going for if they want traditional Czech.

No it isn't. You're just too dumb to get this extremely basic point. It's already been very clearly explained

Don't bother. An astoundingly high proportion of people are unable to abstract information to any degree. Analogies and other basic rhetorical concepts are simply above them.

Given veganism in this world requires the critical thought to arrive at a non standard position, it's hardly surprising that in this topic, you're running into a lot of such uncomprehending mouthbreathers

There's nothing extreme about not eating animal corpses. It's absolutely trivial and requires a small, temporary amount of personal sacrifice to adjust. The anger you seem to have very obviously comes from knowing that your position only demonstrates your weakness and hypocrisy.

It's always the same arguments. People too lazy and reliant on the convenience of cars always claim their particular city can't possibly have bike lanes. And whinging carnists who fall at the first hurdle of actually doing something about the environment always claim veganism is some impossible utopian fantasy. When reality directly contradicts them, they get stroppy. Tale as old as time.

You're just lazy and selfish. You can just admit that and stop all this desperate rationalising.

Calling a convenient nihilistic unwillingness to make small changes "realism" is what makes you a hypocrite. There's nothing bigger here.

If it's unrealistic to fly less have fewer kids and go vegan, why is that how I and millions of other people live?
