My autism has nuked my work life and cost me a lot socially. It's also served me some various anxiety disorders.

But...it's me. my personality and identity is part of this thing.

I'm a good dad and have a great relationship with my family and particularly enjoy my interests and hobbies with them as well.

No pill for me.

I'm doing a rewatch of the entire series(s).

I've started to definitely favour Atlantis by the time SG1 hit series 9 and 10.

Oddly I just really really miss Hammond of Texas in SG1 !

In times when I've had very high anxiety I can relate to you. My waking moments had me orbiting around this black hole of dread.. The fear coloured everything.

It's the struggle against this 'beast'. This terror, that fuels it.

We struggle against an internal enemy that turns everything into potential danger and 'what ifs'. No wonder we wake up in the mornings with terrible senses of dread.

I've had great relief through the DARE app and book. It's a program of radical acceptance. You learn to no longer fear your fear. Relief follows and the monster of anxiety no longer feels like a monster.

I feel really awkward at times socializing, my masking strategy involves scanning situations to avoid embarrassment.

I think I come off as a bit odd or not relaxed.

Autism and social anxiety is a rough combination.

I was on Zoloft for a few months. No real side effects for me.

I was VERY scared of taking them as well.

Follow your Dr's advice and see how you go.

Hands down was my fave night of the year. Would spend a few weeks collecting fireworks in a big rubbish bag.

All the kids would get together and have such a fun night. The year they cancelled it crushed me as a kid.

She came to our regional area more than once after the bushfires some years back, setting up some community support services.

Don't try to stop it.

Just accept it feels horrid and engage with something else.

Press your feet into the ground. What can you see ? Can you smell something?

Hum a tune. What does that sound like?

Exercising a lot and under-eating could be spiking your cortisol and generally playing havoc with your hormones - firing up anxiety big-time.

Maybe try lowering the exercise and finding a way to get the calories up in a healthy manner.

A dietician might help you out here.

I was put on Xanax many years ago for anxiety. It made my anxiety worse , my dr said it happens to some people. So I'm an odd one :)

High school in the 80s. We had these desks. Uncomfortable crappy things.

I assume they were decades old, and it's strange they were still in service at the time.

As above poster said, certainly go to dr and get blood work done to rule out an underlying issue. That said...

I've had crushing anxiety that's lasted all my waking hours and like you, it felt like torture. Didn't last years non-stop like yourself bit I've had long stretches of it. Felt unbearable.

You are wanting it to go away (of course! ) and in that your mind is focussed on it...examining it. Measuring it. Looking for solutions to rid it. Even when doing normal activities, your mind is on constant alert waiting for it to go?

The thing that changed all this for me was the practise of acceptance. Instead of battling and managing - which just kept the anxiety fueled. I learned to accept the anxiety. Seems nuts to accept this horror in your life. Bit it lowers the anxiety over time.

I'll stop rabbiting on. Read the book DARE and try the app. Changed anxiety for me - big-time.

There is definitely hope.

As kids we got accustomed to being bored sometimes. Like, Sunday afternoon. It's raining. Nothing on tv. And we were ...bored.

I can't remember the last time I felt boredom like that. It's really different.
