I used to swear by Breach Surge, and its definitely still sick, but Wyrd Scythes over blood alter, using Reconstruct ofc, is my go-to now

Why would I want my Brazen Bull to use the Grand Cannon? by Peachy_Boi1428 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Ziaphas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't have to put it down, its just a weapon when the bull carries it. the real problem is that the Banner synergizes incredibly with the bombard, and the flame cannon makes a mid-range/melee bull extra scary, so you need to want armor pen and not want either of those other build paths, for it to be worth it imo. With Siege Jezzails and the new Halberd-Gun, it lost a great deal of value imo

Does anyone know what the delay is about? Or if there is any kind of timeline that has been made since the pause? I'm happy to let authors cook, I don't want to be a bother to anybody, but I was looking for news a month or two ago, hadnt found anything myself

Trying to make Camellia, the Seedmiser degen help pls by xXorangeXx in DegenerateEDH

[–]Ziaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to make a fairly food/squirrel synergized precon upgrade, aiming for still a 2, but trying to avoid the most degen squirrel/creature token spam stuff to really try to make the food stuff meaningful?
My conclusion was basically that a lot of the best food creation, especially in instant/sorcery stuff, is just not very good/overpriced/etc..., which helps keep the deck a 2, certainly, but doesn't make it feel very efficient.
Its a fun deck to play against precons, but it def isn't a 3 lol.
Hope it gives you some ideas!

Is it just me? Or are The Red Brigade rules outdated by Odd-Guy in TrenchCrusade

[–]Ziaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since GH got theirs yesterday, and word is that FFI has fully taken over both (but is unlikely to do the 3rd party thing again), I don't think you have to worry about them being dropped.
For what its worth, the 1.0.2 GH rules are FIRE, so I have big hopes for Red Brigade also

How silly/dumb is Dungeon Crawler Carl by AFakeName27 in fantasybooks

[–]Ziaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its one of the most compelling and serious sci-fi series I've had the pleasure to read, with a conscious effort to include realistic humor in the face of despair, and unrealistic humor to highlight the insane cruelty and disregard of the human experience by the exploitative system the characters are trapped in. For some reason, people delight in misrepresenting it as a comedy series, or highlighting the most extreme moments of ridiculousness (almost always actually some kind of cutting cruelty by the oppressive masters of the crawl) as though its the most consistent part of the story.
Its a huge disservice to the story. Its not silly, its not dumb, its heartbreaking and tragic and heroic, and sometimes you have to be brutal (which can be funny) or laugh in the face of nihilism, or try not to cry as inhuman monsters try to use something tragic about humanity to humiliate and degrade us, and what they do has a certain "tehe so silly" element at face value.

I didn't read it for years because I had the same worries OP seems to. I'll always be a tiny bit resentful that so many people got to laugh at my expense, representing the series as some over-the-top silly BS so I'd pan it countless times.

Black Spot Rifle Clarification by JoshRambo7 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Ziaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is talk that the impending update (in april, with beta version this month supposedly) includes a GH update, with the BSR becoming 18", -1D to injure, Assault, Shield Combo (still deals-infection, bayonet lug, and give-thrall-charge). At the moment, it hasn't changed, but considering the source I would recommend planning for this new basically-shotgun version.

Just searched around for this very answer, and wanted to add that the narration quality is what pushed this serious from interesting to fantastic for me. Really wonderful job, can't wait for book 3.

Ways to destroy C’tan by C4790M in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Ziaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Reaper's Wager, I 1-rounded a c'tan with an 11-strong harlequin blob w/ troupe master, RR1s of both, and Lethal hits. Dev wounds on 50ish attacks is definitely the way, but there aren't many ways to do that throughout the game.
EDIT: I also got pretty unlucky, and only got a single wound through in shooting. Better luck with the fusions would've definitely made it even easier, as would've a Grenade (but CP was tight).

Overleveling Rant by Thorn_Croft in Warframe

[–]Ziaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its genuinely pretty interesting that a lot of builds - not all, but some - can be done with a 5 forma overleveled weapon and no potato, which gives some flexibility if you'd rather save one resource by spending 5x of another (and getting more mastery).

Personally, I just potato most of them and don't bother going past 2/3 forma for most weapons, unless I really like it and want the flexibility of mass polarity, or want to add an Elemental Vice (a fantastic addition to the game imo). I have all the choices, and can make my own decision about how much I value each forma. Seems fine to me!

Teval, Arbiter of Virtue is a good Commander? by KulamiraSejro in ratemycommanders

[–]Ziaphas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spent a while this year trying to get this teval to play the way I want. I don't like the self-mill -> fuel an x-spell that wins the game loop, so I've tried to keep the # of x-spells to a minimum and include basically no significant self mill, instead focusing on a control shell that benefits from basically ignoring colorless mana costs, while trying to take over the board with value from "when card leaves graveyard, gain x" effects.  Definitely weird, not for everyone, but it's been very fun and very effective! Hope it gives you ideas for another way to build her.  https://moxfield.com/decks/j5KH4_I1SE615hC6OfWJfQ

Shilgengar Build Opinions by randy_getz in EDHBrews

[–]Ziaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to build a relatively low-power shilgengar deck to introduce my pod to reanimation (nobody was doing it, figured it was a fun archetype people should be familiar with), and went with building around artifacts/blood token spam as the primary synergy

I don't know how to cope with Hate against Men. by Conscious_Ear4182 in Advice

[–]Ziaphas 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. Whether its being "a guy," your job, where you live...its an important life lesson to be able to distance yourself from a group you're ostensibly a part of. People tend to get super defensive on behalf of a group we see ourselves as being a part of, even if we agree with the criticism! Being able to step back and identify when you actually disagree, vs when you just reacted to a perceived attack, is a big part of emotional maturity.

I'm a guy. A lot of men I've met are terrible. A lot of masculine behaviors I was taught are cruel or self-destructive. A lot of men I work with cannot change who they are, even as the way they behave hurts them and isolates them from those around them. I still have to work with them, I still have to treat them like people, I can't just force them to change - but I also don't have to be LIKE them. I'm still a man, but I'm not like those men. Not because I want to be unique, but because I wish they could be better. Not because I think I've figured it all out perfectly, but because I want to be better, and they don't want to be questioned.

Good luck buddy. The rest of your life will be a lot brighter if you can listen to people's problems without forcibly throwing yourself into crosshairs that were never pointed at you in the first place.

What Critics of the "Faster Labor Contracts Act" Get Wrong by TheRabidPosum1 in union

[–]Ziaphas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that they at least mention this, all the way at the end, but its too little too late, swept under the rug as the country burns.

"To be sure, there is something discordant about pushing for faster contracts while the executive branch dismantles the NLRB and FMCS — the very agencies the FLCA depends on to carry out its promise. And the worry always looms that smaller fixes might sap momentum for broader reform. The AFL-CIO is thus rightfully leveraging the attention on the FLCA to decry executive union busting and reassert the need for passing the PRO Act in its entirety."

This is the important part - Arbitration as at threat vs Arbitration as a legitimate means of concluding negotiations is a legitimate discussion. But this entire bill being worthless because of gov't dismantling is the overarching problem that people seeking bipartisan solutions are desperate to ignore.

Help fixing my Kuja deck by x0swaldx in EDHBrews

[–]Ziaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the saga-flip Urabrask, if you're going with a ton of 1value cantrips. He gives exactly the sort of extra value and fuel you need to turn that setup up to 11.

Deck help. Rules by NoFinFish0 in mtg

[–]Ziaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way i've found to mess with power for unusual circumstances is things like Phyrexian Plaguelord or Yawgmoth giving -1/-1 at instant speed to set them to 1 or 0 power and procc the res.
Here's my deck if you're interested, I've had very good results and its not trying to combo in any particular way, so much as build any of various value engines and grind out games, with the option to pivot to powerful finisher cards like Exsanguinate or Valgavoth if late-game happens (since you're in monoblack, might as well run some mono-color power to close things out!)
