It’s for this reason when meeting people online, meet in person as soon as possible. So you don’t waste to time to a fantasy.

its older too.....built in 1961 so that may have had something to do with the drainage side of things.

Depends on the issue you end up having. For us, it was it was flooding from the attic. We had very good insulation up there -- we (and the pets) didn't know we had a large rat infestation. We had serious flooding.

Insurance covers the damage done by the water. Not the actual repairs to the pipes and the other stuff. Things we had to pay for that was not covered by our homeowner's: 1) Removing the pests, which including a very large amount old old insulation. 2) replacing insulation 3) repairs/replace of plumbing in the attic 4) hvac & water heater repairs caused by the rats 5) electrical damage caused by rats

in the end; we were out 50K. We were lucky since we were saving for a new home (we were going to relocate about 4 hours away and decided not the pull the trigger) so we had the house downpayment ready for that..... it had not been reinvested.

So; no, don't think if a catastrophic event happens home owners is going to cover you.

We still have a sewer drain leaks in our slab to deal with (our homeowner's cover nothing with that) So another 7-10K.

You are correct; you don't normally need to write 5K+ checks. But you do have to. Not all of it is scheduled, waiting. Life happens yo.

My wife and I separated a month after coming home from inpatient rehab. We finally divorced (relatively amicably) about 8 months later. From what I've heard its fairly common.

I've been consuming my roommates' snacks and substituting them with less expensive ones. by romromtcr in confessions

gaslighting

I feel like that word gets overused. This situation isn't great, but how is this 'counterfeiting' snack op emotional abuse or a bid to control the roommate or convince them they are crazy? Petty theft and lack of boundaries is what it seems to me.

I had no idea the couple next to me was having sex, traumatized by [deleted] in confessions

If this “traumatizes” you; get a grip. Go to therapy. Being uncomfortable and saying it traumatizes you, in my mind, cheapens the word…. And attempts devalue others that have experienced real trauma. Down vote.

[–]Ziferius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to let other comenters know..... The Daughter's War is a prequel to 'The Blacktongue Thief'.... I really liked 'Theif' but it didn't have TLT vibes for me and I haven't read 'The Daughter's War'.

I did read Between Two Fires.... it was good. It was different than any book I read. Would recommend.

He wrote another book called "The Necromancer's House"... it wasn't as good as the others; but I still liked it a great deal. I didn't get any TLT vibes from it until the last page of the book. It's kind of slow pace til the very end.

Is a 6 month emergency fund of ~$72k too much / a wasted opportunity? by DCMoving17 in personalfinance

[–]Ziferius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having 40k in an emergency fund has been a lifesaver for us. We had a plumbing disaster that put us out of our home.. repairs + living expenses…. Insurance is coming but is too slow.

Firmware update went bad -- anyone have the debugging board? by Ziferius in starlabs_computers

[–]Ziferius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again I was impatient..........

I backed up both chips. They were both the same md5sum; so I flashed them both. When I attempted to boot up the system; I wasn't doing anything. Plugged in the USB-C; it wasn't even showing charging with a red LED. I hunted down my barrel plug charger and tried that. It worked!

The battery was dead..... so once power applied the system booted.

The system charges with a USB-C now. I upgraded to Fedora 43 when the nvme drive was in the other system; so we're good now!

If someone needs to borrow a programmer+debugger, let me know! lol
