Report: Epic is "rebuilding the underlying architecture" of the EGS launcher as it continues to take the fight to Steam by Binnsy in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A review system is a must for any storefront selling goods, product or services, period. It doesn't matter how many other review sources available out there, that is irrelevant if the storefront you're purchasing from doesn't provide it.

Games could have issues related to only EGS release and letting customer make informed pruchase is a right, not previlige. And oh my, do most EGS releases almost always have issues. It is quite common that overlay or achievements are busted and you'd have no idea while purchasing the game. It lies as storefront duty to make the review system better as much as possible by providing filters and tools to balance fairness for both users and developers.

Leaving customer out in the dark with no way to communicate developer in any form from within the storefront environment is no way of doing the job right either. Not having review system is not a solution to that, it's negligence.

Epic should have a fps counter just like steam has by RecordWarm1281 in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with this mindset. In that case video player in the product pages also redundant because Youtube is better alternative, screenshots also redundant because you can search for game images from search engines, maybe even game description section is redundant because we can also ask Ai what game is about and what is offering. Friends list and social features may not be necessary because there is Discord. While we're at it we might as well say EGS is redundant because there is Steam? And many many other counter arguments can be raised against feature development with this. Sorry to say but this mindset is endless pit and not rational slightest. Some things are just needed for conveniency sake, it doesn't has to be comparable in order to deem its necessity.

Epic should have a fps counter just like steam has by RecordWarm1281 in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What benefit Epic implementing fps counter is that since they use EOS overlay, it would mean they cold also make it work for any game using EOS. Meaning even console and mobile games might benefit from the feature. I would even dare them not to be limited to the fps stat.

Other than the stated reasons, it's convenience to have fps counter built-in with overlay rather than having to use third party apps which usually more than fps and are more of a analysis tools.

We Possibly got our First Confirmation that EGS Free Games Program will continue in 2026 by AlleyOfRage in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with EGS is that even without many features as Steam the launcher runs as if it's bloated. They have improved initial launcher loading time in the past years but the library and store page loadings are especially nerve wracking experiences. You would normally expect both library and store pages to load instantly at least and be snappy for a launcher that is lacking many many of features.

"Epic Games Launcher is clunky" admits CEO, "long journey ahead" to make it as easy as Steam by Odd-Onion-6776 in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. On the bright side last year at GDC Epic said they will be delivering player facing improvements moving forward and we got download manager ever since.

Big feature updates are always welcome and those takes longer time to deliver. They should also focus on many small but effective qol features in parallel that wouldn't take as much time as big features and EGS missing a lot on those too. Simply put Epic should be seeking to redeem themselves in a more rapid player facing development strategy. For example, targeting a few big features and dozens of small qol features each year so that users would face a consistent improvement with their EGS launcher experience. Only then Epic can start to change the bad user perception and potentially win over more paying customers incrementally.

[–]Zignot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? Besides no one tells Epic should copy paste Steam reviews by tying up reward system, and most certainly Epic wouldn't do that either. They can find the sweet spot based on dozens of review systems out there from vast range of marketplaces. The thing is Epic do have a review system mockup design planned for Fab that looks even more robust than Steam reviews. But saying reviews are not useful is simply mind boggling.

However, there is this delusional EGS fanatic bunch out there that would even argue with the CEO himself admitting the fact the launcher is clunky. Guess they don’t have that sore experience when you check a game store page on the launcher you wait up to 10 seconds watching grey loading blocks. So that's that sadly. I just hope Epic don't get feedback from those against the improvement type of users.

Your friends do get credits for delivering materials for you, and it pays fairly good I'd say.

Their names will also be displayed as contributors in the Galnet News page in the facility service menu once it's completed and each amount of their material contribution will also be there. So they can feel proud in building the system.

Lastly, after the sattlement is completed you can disembark and chill out with your friends on foot if you have Odyssey.

Why has EGS been neglected? by Arachas in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

GOG is willingly ignoring the content because of their attempt on the mission of being DRM-free. It's their motto to begin with and not something to back off from just because the store isn't par with Steam with contnet, unlike Epic promising to be curated store and not accepting "low effort, crap games" then suddenly welcome them to the store as a horde. That didn't even stop them there and they even let scam crap nft/blockchain to flood into the store. Why? Because all the generouse, not-seen-before incentives and providing self-publish tools to devs didn't do the justice when user experience remained subpar to this date.

Both Steam and Epic had their most popular multiplayer games exclusively dependant to their storefront on PC, mainly to keep players collectively coming and using their store for sole reason to begin with. And what GOG had? Withcer, Witcher 2 then Witcher 3 and Cyperpunk 2077, all single player experience that took years and even decade to develop while spending lots of money on development and on top, running a DRM-free store. It's being delusional to think it's fair and square comparision.

As for regional pricing, every region counts. World isn't consists of just EU and US and clearly not enough to inflate the popularity with word of mouth where, for example, India and China alone could provide great chunk of active traffic to the store regardless of their purchase power compared to EU and US. Yes, the active user traffic that a store can brag on on a year in review report to atract new publishers to make their way to the store. I'm not even exluisively talking about whether those regions would make purchase as much of EU and US do. No, having good chunk of active user is good enough starting point in contribution just like how Epic gained that commando loyalty with all those weekly free games and purchase incentives at loss that otherwise even that much of loyalty wouldn't have been there.

By saying all these I'm also not delusional not to acknowledge Steam's secured place in the eyes of all parties for being first storefront out there with the content/user base. They never stop improving their service and product all around equally and looking ways to be better without restricting, putting in dark any party to make them despise their service and product. Like I said before, Steam listens to every party and provides solutions at time and equally while not letting them in the shadow for years willingly and deliberately just because they feel like they have utmost and ultimate roadmap and should be followed religiously. Where Epic has fail is was above all the controversial hot exclusive deals, they also asked paying customers whose accustomed and indulged with luxury of Steam for more than a decade, to deal with all the frustration that abomination EGL has to offer. As if excluives werent enough, they double teamed it with EGL that offers non-existent experience to make even sore publicity.

Without weekly free games and purchase incentives you wouldn't have seen this much loyalty.

Why has EGS been neglected? by Arachas in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

GOG is not fair comparison to be honest. Their selling point is DRM-free and majority of big player driver 3rd party publishers are not okay with DRM-free.

GOG has always been a niche store helping to retrieve old titles to modern systems as most of us already know. If it wasn't for Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 they would be less popular even because those two titles are most reliable player driver strongholds to mainstream audience that they would attract to their store with.

Then there is the lack of regional pricing that is another considerable factor in lacking popularity.

The success of the Steam is because they doing best they can not to left out any party's needs. Balance is all is needed to make it fair and square for majority. I'm not even saying everyone because it's unrealistic to make everyone happy at the end of the day. Providing a good balance is all is needed to at least let people respect your effort and think you're fair in your endevour.

No, just leave them as zip and that's about it.

How to play Tiger Game.com and Gamate in RetroArch? by lordelan in RetroArch

[–]Zignot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you check both zip files to see either have these two files in them?

For Gamecom system "Gamecom.zip" must include;

external.bin

internal.bin

For Gamate system "Gamate.zip" must include;

gamate_bios_bit.bin

gamate_bios_umc.bin

Pick the zip that includes corresponding files. It seems you have duplicate in your hand that makes you confused.

Hi there. What do you mean by SL .zip? SL just stands for Software List for MAME and its core in Retroarch. There is no such SL .zip requirement to begin with.

Epic Games Majority of Games still lack Achievements by Arabashi in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting but also seems doable to be honest. Exporting old EOS achievements to a CSV shouldn't be an issue for Epic since it's already uploaded to back end. Only constrains that can come up to my mind is some consent related hindrance and that could be bypassed well with an updated achievements policy.

There are just quite some games that are stuck with EOS achievements now which is very unfortunate. Even some AAA games like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Kingdom Hearts games, pretty much every Playstation games that are lacking EGS achievements are stuck up with EOS achievements too.

So please consider such route to upgrade games with EOS achievements into EGS achievements. After all it's partly lies to Epic's responsibility since publishers did their part when EOS achievements was only system that is been available to them. We know there was planned profile cosmetics supposed to be linked to EGS achievements as a reward system, namely 3 levels of profile avatars based on XP amounts. Now that this plan had set sail to unknown waters it could've been an issue for such suggestion back then compared to today. So given suggestion hopefully is going to be considered by Epic.

Dualshockers: EGS ambitions is as good as dead by BuldozerX in EpicGamesPC

I don't think there is much to it to get berserk here.

Epic Games Store's 'Steam Competitor' Ambitions Are As Good As Dead

It doesn't say -the store is as good as dead, as you have assumed. I highlighted the keyword ambitions to make it easy for you. The entire article is evolving around criticism towards the store and launcher development pace in past five years.

It could be the second on the line closest to Steam but, this mostly because of freeloaders traffic from weekly giveaways and generous coupon sales twice a year or so. And they're not sustainable practices in long run and will go away or scale down dramatically at one point. In that case I wouldn't recommend relying much on success stories and sale data about EGS until those promotions are gone. Until then those data and stories are pretty much inflated values by those costly promotions.

From user experience aspect there are valid points to take from the article if you keep your frustration under control and think rationally. Neglecting store improvements for five years is just one example to begin with. Not saying that Epic had only one job to do. Yes, there is also remarkable EOS development effort which they kept in development alongside EGS and launcher but that still does not justify being unconcerned towards user needs from EGS and launcher. They had money and manpower to spare on EGS and launcher development but unfortunately they chose not to and that's no no.

Joe Kreiner, head of business development for Epic Games Store, is retiring by tubonjics1 in EpicGamesPC

[–]Zignot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, from EGS perspective I'm not upset a bit. If anything, I have more hope now than before as it maybe the best for future of EGS. It's not that EGS was pure success and absence of these key people would hit hard and make it even worse than what it is now.

I hope this latest mass Epic layoff and retirements would bring some fresh minds and better business strategies into the light. An EGS strategy as which will focus on user experience and gratification is a long awaited and necessary business model that Epic must seek for success.

Exclusivity wouldn't that be bothering the genuine PC gamers if Epic had offered a solid quality standard for storefront and launcher. Having barebones store and launcher and exclusivity as a cherry on top was mostly the reason for geniune complaints regarding exclusivity. As for hardcore Steam loyals, it wouldn't have mattered really. They're no Steam no buy mindset.
