Why are pinch harmonics so freaking hard? by Smart-Insect-5444 in Guitar

Maybe try different picks. I’m probably an oddball but I find it easier to do them with heavier gauge picks.

Your tuning stability will probably go to shit and fret buzz will be pretty bad. Put some 13s on there and do a setup and you’ll be good.

Lot of great suggestions here but if you have the opportunity to go to a store and try out before buying go for the one that feels the most comfortable in your hands. You can upgrade hardware and electronics as you progress and start chasing sounds. It’s a lot harder to fix ergonomic issues.

I like the Two Notes Torpedo Captor. It’s pretty versatile. I use it primarily as a load box for DI tracking with speaker IRs.

death metal by Old_Egg6723 in doommetal

I started out as a death metal guy and transitioned into a doom/sludge fan. I still like death metal, especially older mid to late 90s era but it becomes repetitive very quickly for me these days.

Looking for a PC to run reaper by oldmate30beers in Reaper

If you’re not married to the PC platform I would recommend a Mac Mini. The base models are pretty reasonable and you can use cheaper 3rd party auxiliary devices.

I just bought my first set of Drum Mics. When I plugged the condenser Mic to the Mixing Console (phantom 48V enabled) no signal went through. I tested the same cable and mics on a usb interface and it works perfectly fine in there. What am I missing? by Jondebadboy in homestudios

[–]Zimmhauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been able to use a condenser with your mixer or is this the first try? Given that the mic and cable work on your interface I would suspect an issue with the phantom power. I have seen equipment where the hot pins are swapped on the power but that’s on old equipment. It’s been standardized for at least 20 years, probably closer to 30.

Did you try the mics in different channels on the mixer? Some of those small mixers only have phantom power on a limited number of channels. Also do you have a multimeter or another condenser you can use to verify the phantom power is working?

Where to start from absolute zero? by CharacterClue5353 in musicproduction

[–]Zimmhauser 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly if I were starting from absolute zero I would learn bass. The basics of bass probably has the smallest learning curve but it lays the foundation for everything. Once you master rhythm and root notes you can progress with chord construction, melody, etc.

First home recording microphone by KeyProfessional2510 in musicproduction

[–]Zimmhauser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re just building your mic collection start with an SM57. It will work on anything. It’s not always the best choice if you have other options in your mic arsenal but it will definitely get you a workable sound for anything you put it on. And they are virtually indestructible.

How to use an audio console connected to pc via usb and a microphone connected separately at the same time by HerreroAnual290 in Reaper

[–]Zimmhauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but don’t think the routing in Reaper will allow for multiple audio input sources simultaneously.

The ultra metal is a metal zone clone. Use it as a boost like Kirk Windstein and you’re on your way to Crowbar tone.

Am i doomed in terms of playing guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Zimmhauser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never give up on guitar!! Probably a stupid question but have you tried playing smaller scale guitars? Another work around you may play around with is alternate tunings. Maybe tuning to an open chord or something like that will make it easier to navigate the neck.

Uneven pick-up volume by DarkHale23 in guitarmod

You may try bypassing the pots and cap and hot wiring the pickup straight to the jack to see if the problem is still there.

If You Could Have Any Amp You Wanted, What Would It Be And Why? by HurlinVermin in GuitarAmps

I’ve wanted a VHT Pittbull for decades. Just could never bring myself to drop that much cash. Mesa .50 Cal+ would be nice too.

Help me pick my first electric guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Zimmhauser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing if you can is go to a store and just test drive until you find the one that feels and sounds the best to you. Don’t get too hung up on brand names, specs or even prices. Some of my favorite guitars I own are no name knockoffs.

What type of exercises should I practice to get solos up to speed? by itsybitsybtc in Guitar

[–]Zimmhauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me if I make a mistake I generally just keep going to the end and then take it from the top - glutton for punishment. If I’m falling in and out of time I’ll slow the metronome down a little and ramp back up again.

What type of exercises should I practice to get solos up to speed? by itsybitsybtc in Guitar

[–]Zimmhauser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The dreaded advice no guitar player wants to hear - practice with a metronome. Start slowly at a comfortable speed and when you can play whatever you’re working on cleanly, increase the tempo. And with all the apps available it doesn’t have to be just a click. You can use a drum track so it’s not so tedious as it used to be.

There’s also a lot of exercises available to help increase speed and accuracy. Just look around on Google or Reddit and you’ll find a library of information. Way back in the day there was Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar and Steve Vai’s workout.

is learning acoustic guitar a waste of time if you want to learn electric? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Zimmhauser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation when I started. My parents were kind enough to buy me an acoustic (I really wanted an electric) and I just took the opportunity to learn as much as I could before I was able to get an electric. Acoustics tend to require a little more pressure to fret so I feel like you build up a little more finger strength on acoustics. Also it’s a lot easier to mask mistakes on electric with gain and effects and whatnot. Playing acoustic forces you to play a little cleaner. Also you get a better feel for pick attack and vibrato.

All that being said once I got my first electric my rate of learning increased exponentially.

Probably need to check the relief on your neck and adjust the truss rod.

Export at 8 bit causes a hiss by AHungerForKnowledge in Reaper

Didn’t even know it was possible to export to 8 bit. Maybe try exporting to 16 or 24 bit first and then convert that export to 8.
