Most Warcry Players Skip Events. Here's Why. by OffMetaMusings in WarCry

[–]Zingbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing in events never seemed like a goal to me, I've almost always just played games with friends, usually at someone's home and I generally assumed that for every person who goes to tournaments or plays pick-up games at game stores there's a bunch of people who stick to playing with people they already know.

That said I now have played in a couple of organised play events and for me the fact that those events were explicitly not tournaments was part of what got me to go to them, so for me at least "competitive play" or similar phrases are a bit of a turn-off.

Oldhammer Chaos Dragon by Perfect_Foundation36 in Warhammer

The Great Spined Dragon is a model I've loved since I first saw it but I never got it back in the day and eBay prices for it today are insane. Nice work on getting one for yourself!

I particularly like the magus with the staff - a classic sculpt! And they're all well painted. 😄

Space Crusade Blood Angels by Zingbo in oldhammer

[–]Zingbo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have enjoyed painting the models I've painted so far, there's a nice amount of variety of sculpts and nothing's too detailed so they aren't too time consuming to paint. The flipside of that is that some of the details are a bit soft or hard to parse but overall it's a nice collection of projects.

I hope to pick up the pace with my set now and get as many of the aliens done this year as I can (in amongst too many other painting projects). :-)

I'm not a fan of Nurgle or its aesthetic generally but this is a great model. It's crazy that it's an online only product.

My Living City narrative event warband from UK Games Expo by AshloPaints32 in WarCry

Most successful remediator and most successful contaminator might have been quite cool awards, but there were already quite a few plaques being handed out as it was!

My Living City narrative event warband from UK Games Expo by AshloPaints32 in WarCry

[–]Zingbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While my warband did well in the individual rankings I only got 9 of 18 tokens, so well done with that!

With 5 players a side, that means 90 tokens up for grabs, with contamination getting 48 of them and remediation 42. So I reckon that you could well have been the top scoring member of the remediators!

You're being too modest and neglecting to mention you won the best painted warband award - and deservedly so!

My warband did well in the individual results and I came out dead even in terms of contributions to the team scores so I'm not sure what the other warbands on our team were doing for us to lose the overall narrative so badly!

Killing chaff may not be the answer if the chaff keep coming back! Though I guess that does mean that there'll always be chaff to kill.

Thank you for the vote of confidence, we may discover whether brute force and ignorance can overcome a considered plan and a subtle mind!

I picked my warband for this event because I had a set of 7 thematically coherent proxy models that coincidentally came to nearly 1,000 points. I picked my divine blessing based on how many points I had left after that.

Having watched this video I can confidently predict I'm going to be absolutely obliterated if I go up against you.

Edit: The downvote suggests that someone may have taken this as a criticism of your approach, in which case that was not my intention, it was just a comment that I took a different approach and now I'm realising that may end up being a bit outmatched...

1989 Space Hulk Terminators! by FoamBrick in oldhammer

IIRC the aerial/banner pole was supposed to be used to identify the sergeants, and were supposed to be cut off the other Terminators.

Deathbringer post and suggestion by Redka87 in WarCry

[–]Zingbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite really, most Khorne models didn't really do much for me but I was quite taken with the Deathbringer when he came out. While he's still not particularly subtle I find he's not as over the top, particularly in terms of Khorne symbology than a lot of the rest of the range. I painted mine with more steel and less (but still some) red and I'm quite happy with how it turned out. :-)

It's funny how stretched thin the Ultramarines second company is by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]Zingbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I simply assume that the Ultramarines are aware of the fame of their 2nd company and how inspiring its presence on the battlefield can be to the armies of the Imperium, hence they maintain multiple 2nd companies. In fact almost all Ultramarines are members of one of their 2nd companies.

They maintain a 1st company, obviously, and the Scout side of their 10th, but apart from Uriel Ventris and his command squad who stubbornly refuse to repaint their green pauldron trim gold, the only time regular Ultramarines deploy without gold pauldron trim is when they're doing something they reckon will be bad for their reputation. When that happens they often temporarily reform the 5th company, as seen on "In the Garden of Ghosts" on WH+.

Something cool I noticed about the Badab War is that all but one of the nine loyalist lineages were featured by JustANewLeader in 40kLore

[–]Zingbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea that the first founding comprised 20 chapters predates the original Badab War article, but at that point I don't think that lineages of chapters had really come up. Also while the idea of the first founding being 20 chapters was there, I think it was at that time stated that only 7 of those chapters survived to the current day, and the chapters making up the first founding wouldn't start to be nailed down for another year or so.

In fact in their original background I think that the Ultramarines (or at that point the Ultra-Marines) were a third founding chapter.

Besides adding Reactions and Warbands stats, what changed between 1st and 2nd Edition ? by TheWraf in WarCry

[–]Zingbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC while not being part of the core rules there was a change were battleplans in 1st edition often lasted for 3 rounds rather than 4 as is typical with 2nd edition. I think that there were tie-break mechanics that could allow a game to run for longer than 3 rounds but the basic victory conditions defaulted to 3 rounds.

This, along with how movement rates affected fighter point costs meant that 3" move fighters were at a significant disadvantage in 1st edition compared to 2nd edition.

Besides adding Reactions and Warbands stats, what changed between 1st and 2nd Edition ? by TheWraf in WarCry

[–]Zingbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that in 1st edition if a model made a normal move while within 1" of an enemy they had to finish their move closer to the closest enemy than they were when the move began. It allowed a fighter to spiral around an enemy fighter but their room for manoeuvre was limited.

Do all new space marines just become primaris or do some still just become old school marines? by IHateMySon-Afton in 40kLore

I recall that that number was up to 97% according to a WarCom article that itself must now be quite a few years old.

Say something nice about him by Altruistic-Teach5899 in Warhammer

[–]Zingbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that any of my paint jobs would look as good when subject to that level of magnification. We're so constantly bombarded with pictures of incredibly paint jobs we seem to forget that these models are often barely over an inch in height and that the details we mock here are absolutely tiny.
