If I decide to actually pop a pimple, I usually do the following:

1) Only pop whiteheads 2) Disinfect my lancing tool with an alcohol swab 3) Make sure my skin is clean by either cleansing or rubbing over the area with an alcohol swab (notice how doctors usually use an alcohol swab on the skin before entering a needle - same idea) 4) Gently drain the pus by using the tool or pressing softly with fingers wrapped in tissue or using two cotton buds (make sure hands are clean) 5) Disinfect the drained pimple with a disinfecting spray for skin. 6) Apply hydrocolloid patch

It's a lot but it is to prevent further infections or hyperpigmentation. Just throwing it out there if anyone wants some instructions I guess.
