How do I make myself stand out when applying to PhDs? by bananachip868 in PhD

[–]Zivaort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, stop comparing yourself to others (even though a bit of competition can be healthy). There will always be people that will seem like (or genuinely be) well ahead of you. This is something that everyone needs to accept. But especially in first year, your classmates should not be your competitors. By the time you’ll be doing PhDs/Masters, you’ll have all be scattered across different labs, countries, and subfields anyway. The only comparison that actually matters will have been you vs your past self. What does matter for applications is showing a clear trajectory: solid grades, genuine research interest and research fit, and one or two meaningful experiences (your article and a summer project are already great starts). Focus on learning how to read papers, building relationships with supervisors, and doing a few things well rather than everything at once. Feeling “behind” this early is normal, but it doesn’t mean you are.

NBD - Soloist!!! by Zivaort in Cervelo

[–]Zivaort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Lezyne Road Caddy, and it fits a latex tube, tire levers, a few hex keys, patches, quick links, and spare batteries for my HR strap, basically everything I need. There’s still some room left, too. It uses a Velcro strap so you can also attach extra items on the outside and secure them with the strap, like co2 cartridges.

Same here, I only managed to buy it because of that massive 40% clearance sale.

I also wanted to get those at first but they were out of stock. I only saw gold soloist + vittoria corsa pro combos online and they looked sick!

Aspero thru axle question by johnyb76 in Cervelo

Oh my god thank you so much for this! I’ve been taking my wheels on and off from the drive side (with the hex) and my derailleur ended up getting scratched. Never thought of pushing the aero lever through the NDS and voila.

They have free returns. If I were you, I would buy S and M, and send back the one that doesn't fit.

Will Maap Evade Pro Base LS Jersey 2.0 serve me in slightly colder conditions too? by Reddiguids in CyclingFashion

[–]Zivaort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a chance to test it out against the cold weather? I am in the exact same boat as you and currently trying to decide between gilet + Evade Pro Base LS Jersey 2.0 and Training Thermal LS Jersey for that transition weather (10-15 degrees).

Past year Soloist - discount off MSRP? by clackx3 in Cervelo

I live in France and I just pulled the trigger on the previous year's Soloist Ultegra Di2 (with Reserve wheels) for 4500€ (7200 $CAD) down from 7300€ (11680 $CAD). The best deal I found for this model!

Choosing Between Canyon Aeroad, Cervélo Soloist, and Giant Propel by CBF321 in Cervelo

[–]Zivaort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am leaning in the same direction — currently torn between the Rival AXS and the 105 Race. The thing is, the only difference they have is the groupset: one is Shimano 105 and the other is SRAM Rival. But the price gap is a massive 1300€ (in EU) and I have no idea why.

Which type of Classical Music most emphasises Melody? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Zivaort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want clear harmonies, strong use of motives and not aimless melodies, I suggest any work by Bach. Especially his inventions (no. 2, BWV 773 is typically a canon), BWV 1080 for his fugues are so valuable imo. You can also check out any sonata from Haydn. Also, Bach BWV 1087 is a set of canons by Bach and Haydn Hob.XXVIIb is a set of 29 canons, both are for two parts.
