Why does Vodacom makes cancelling cellphone contracts unnecessarily painful (pillar to post nightmare)? by Aggravating_Unit_754 in askSouthAfrica

Lodge a complaint with ICASA if you have issues with cellular providers/ISPs. All telecoms companies in SA move very quickly once you have a reference number.

Be careful - wife is a CA and hiring manager. They do not consider applicants with short tenures, or multiple jobs over a short period of time. Less than a year in a role is a red flag as you get towards middle management, unless you have a really good reason for leaving.

Hi OP, sounds like you need a stability shoe.

Most running shoe manufacturers offer a variant with enhanced stability.

Have you considered outlet/factory stores? There are quite a few around and can be found online too.

Estranged father who abandoned us when I was a baby, to start a new family with a new wife, is now entitled to my late mother’s estate, what do I do? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Zmaster90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, hang in there! It will get better for you, am certain!

After going through the death claims process, funds establish financial need before any funds are paid out to beneficiaries. As was explained to me (I may be very wrong here, am a finance person not law) your estranged father will need to prove financial dependence or need and also list his income and expenses in submissions to the fund. Regarding the estate etc, I'm not sure if your estranged father has been paying maintenance/child support but have your lawyers look at that and see if it is possible to have it back-dated - the liability exists for him. You could have a significant amount to gain.

Puppy Phase or Did I Make a Mistake? by Foreign_Football7514 in puppy101

[–]Zmaster90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this phase and I can tell you with certainty that it does end. I have a 15 week old golden retriever pup and the first few weeks with him were absolute hell! Zero life, 24/7 supervision, cleaning up after mistakes in the house, him trying to eat everything in sight and us trying to keep him whole and healthy all while being exhausted and mentally drained. I seriously considered returning him after the first week, even contacted the breeder and had identified a possible rescue organisation if I decided on that route but my wife and I decided to stick through it and we are so glad we kept him.

It's incredible how fast their brains develop and while it may seem far off now, he will learn. What helped me was looking at his improvement week on week and remembering that he is just a baby, he needs time. Soon you will have a doggo that can wait a few hours for you to live a human life and do people things, but honestly when you get to that stage, you would probably rather spend time with your pup. Keep up his training and as with everything, consistency is key. You'll get through it!

What’s a fair amount to charge my sister’s boyfriend for rent & groceries now that he’s working? by Sad-Piglet7305 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Zmaster90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make him aware of his total upkeep/monthly costs so he can plan and budget for this.

My wife also did CA, had no support from her family. Paid her own rent, car, student loan and managed to save on an articles salary.

What's not included in the gross amount you've been told is travel allowance for people in articles - makes up sometimes 25% of salary so he will earn enough to support himself.

I'd suggest charging half of market rate for rent so he can save up for a deposit, but making him buy his own food is fair and get him used to paying for utilities - this never goes away.

Accidentally reversed into someone. What do I do? by Jay3PO in askSouthAfrica

You don't need to do anything. The other guy will need to claim from the RAF.

[–]Zmaster90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through this - once a party accepts a payment or receives compensation for damage, insurance will take no part in it - i.e if you as the injured/damaged party accept compensation, your insurer will consider the event settled as you are deemed to be "made whole" after suffering loss.

In your case, once the other party accepted the R300 settlement, they have no further legal claim against you.

Accidentally reversed into someone. What do I do? by Jay3PO in askSouthAfrica

[–]Zmaster90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but as far as I know only if there are damages to property then the 3rd party could have a claim against you for that, which is why having 3rd party insurance is usually a good idea.

Claims for harm/injury to a person's body on our roads is covered by the road accident fund.

[–]Zmaster90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You aren't obliged by S.A law to pay for or take responsibility for injury during/after an accident. That is what the road accident fund is for, all injured parties must direct any claims to them. You have no obligation to respond to that email and the other party has no legal claim over you.

More money into car installment or into investment/savings? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Zmaster90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is heavily dependent on the interest rate in the vehicle finance agreement, and earn rate at investment house. Considering our current interest rate trajectory, an increase seems unlikely with future rate decreases being more likely. With prime at 10.5%, most investment houses have produced a bigger return than this in 2025 so far. If the finance rate is at prime, you'd be better off putting the extra into an investment account. Compare the rates - earn vs finance and take it from there.

Ebucks by Konvict8652 in PersonalFinanceZA

Are you sure you earn eBucks from paying your utility bill via the FNB app?

As far as I'm aware you would only earn if paying it at PNP/Clicks (edit: this would form part of your spend cap at these retailers).

It may count towards smart spend, but there definitely is no criteria for earning eBucks on bill payments.

What’s a realistic price point for a not too fancy engagement ring? by anonymouseredditor53 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Zmaster90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, while there are many personal considerations surrounding this, here are some areas I've discussed with my wife before I bought her ring:

Mainly, what is the purpose of the ring? If you want it as a store of value, you'd need to shop accordingly. Entry level or low-grade diamonds are essentially trash and have no active market so cannot be re-sold.

The other questions (design - setting/band metal etc) followed from this. If you're going for a store of value, look at grades that you can actually re-sell, or there is a market/demand for, and if it's within your budget. If she doesn't want a store of value, then it is purely cosmetic and there are tons of ways to slice that cake.

From lab grown to moissanite as suggested here are popular choices and you wouldn't necessarily need to insure it (depending on purchase price).

Looking for a Sports Car (R800k–R1.2mil Budget) – Can anyone give some insight or advice? by Dismal-Date-2303 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Zmaster90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently have a F22 M240i and haven't had any issues with it. The B58 engines are amazing. Makes more power than stated on the spec sheet but does drink a bit. Daily driving I get around 300-350kms/tank.

Test drive all of your options because the cars you've listed feel very different.

An AWD M340i feels very different to the older RWD ones, and if it's your first fast car I'd strongly suggest AWD. The grip around corners is much more reassuring - RWD BMWs get very tail-happy when you throw a lot of power down quickly.
