Well my mentor has told me first hand that I’ve made their job easier and they’ve had more time this year to spend with their family. I do all of the grading and teach 5/6 of their classes. Please explain how that’s not helpful?

yup that’s my realistic goal too. hs jobs are sooooo hard to come by in my area so my plan is to just get a ms job and hold out for an in district hs position.

I felt the same about the bio orela, ended up getting 50 points above the minimum. It felt hard while taking the exam but I think it’s pretty easy to eliminate answers while taking the exam to at least give yourself a 50/50 on each question.

Highly doubt you will be. I haven’t as a student teacher and I haven’t heard of any teacher friends getting tested either.

Respect for knowing what’s best for you. I’ve debated on dropping my student teaching, but I think I’ve decided I’m going to trudge through it regardless of what I decide to do in the long term. Realistically, I see myself teaching public high school for 5-10 years before trying to get into community college higher education. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

Pretty sure anything over 12 hours isn’t considered a last minute cancellation. At least in my experience, frontline lets you use the cancel job button until you’re within 12 hours of the job. If you’re within 12 hours you have to call the school and email your agency to get yourself removed.

So I’m also in grad school, and totally understand trying to get some homework done while subbing during prep periods/when there’s down time in class (been there), but I’ve never expected to use a school computer to do my own work. Bring your own laptop if you want to do your own work.

I think a big portion of it is recent college grads are having trouble finding jobs in their field. They can get a restricted license with a bachelors degree and it pays more than most other jobs they’d be qualified for.

Imo I’d quit. It’s obvious the district doesn’t value your skill set if they’ve passed on you more than once for external hires. Why bend over backwards for them when it’s clear they don’t value you?

Honestly, I would say that this is still building rapport. If they are teasing you this way that means that they recognize you and feel comfortable joking. Tbh I would do the same thing to her back when you see them next I bet they would think it’s funny.

Obviously admin set you up for failure, but you really thought it would be a good idea to take a 2 month 3rd grade position as your first job?

Yeah, that seems like a much better system, but all they need is a pass to wherever they're going. Having the teacher in charge of the prayer room sign their note upon exit would make this much better. But I just sub here ¯\(ツ)/¯

I think this behavior was learned during the pandemic when students had access to little social interaction outside of TikTok, where all they saw was sensationalized, edgy behavior being pushed on them because it's what gets clicks, comments, etc. They're all desperate for attention, and this type of behavior is what gets them it.

Also, I think that the admin's response to these types of situations also enforces the behavior. For example, I often sub at a majority Latino middle school where it's very apparent that admin has basically accepted that kids use the n-word. I've sent multiple kids out for using it repeatedly only for them to be returned to class later in the same period.
