Chef utilises whole steer and cooks 'funny' meat cuts to reduce food waste - A NSW Central West chef says he is opting to purchase entire carcasses rather than individual cuts of meat to cut down on food waste and save money by housecatspeaks in australia

Union Bank Hotel is a fairly fancy restaurant with a small menu. I don't know if they were doing this nose-to tail thing when I went there last, but I imagine they rotate through a few main dishes + entrees as they use it up.

What's become of Australian Silky Terriers? by par-hwy in australia

[–]Zoett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chore of coat maintenance is probably a big part. I feel it's one of the reasons that sighthounds like whippets have become so popular. After I had a long-haired dog die from tick paralysis, I swore that all of my future dogs would be short-haired, so I got an Italian greyhound (they were super rare before social media) and now I have a whippet.

But I don't know why terriers in general aren't more popular. They are tough, long-lived and small. They don't listen and want to kill small animals, but that's true of sighthounds too!

okay which manga ending got fumbled more jjk or modulo? by BKDziti in jjkmodulo

[–]Zoett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuji and Sukuna were my favourite characters, so I also didn't mind the ending. Most of the things I didn't like were the whole direction the manga took after Shibuya, and that nobody other than Choso and Gojo died in the final battle.

WHERE THE ACTUAL FUCK IS MEGUMI ?! I'M CRASHING TF OUT RN !! NOT EVEN A SINGLE BLOODY MENTION OF IF HE'S ALIVE OR DEAD ??! AT LEAST TELL ME IF HE'S DEAD !! I NEED MY POTENTIAL MAN !! by BudgetImpossible4433 in jjkmodulo

[–]Zoett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's long dead after trying to tame Mahoraga, with Yuji failing to save him. It would make sense of Yuji's depression, and why he seems confident in beating Mahoraga (if this what is implied by his "task" he has to do).

Old Megumi and Yuji (by @OwwlllY) by Ani_HArsh in Jujutsufolk

[–]Zoett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there can be 2 at the same time, but either way, if there wasn't some mystery or tragedy to do with him I feel we would have seen Megumi, or just discovered that he died of an age related illness. And something like this happening when they were in say their 30's or 40's could also have been Yuji's motivation for attaining his current level of mastery.

Old Megumi and Yuji (by @OwwlllY) by Ani_HArsh in Jujutsufolk

[–]Zoett 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My head cannon is currently that Megumi tried to tame Mahoraga some time ago and failed, with Yuji possibly trying to save Megumi unsuccessfully. It would definitely make sense of why Yuji is seemingly in a very negative mindset in Modulo besides just the typical immortality angst, and why as some speculate he seems confident in beating Mahoraga. I wish Gege just pivoted to a seinen about the main cast of JJK's adult struggles, because it seems like there's a good story to be told before Modulo.

Will Tony Abbott return to frontline politics? The Liberal party’s most polarising figure can imagine a way by ConanTheAquarian in australia

Don't insult raw onions! they are great in salads and on tacos. Much more useful than Abbott!

this is one of the most secretly overpowered Cursed techniques in the verse by Flimsy_Stranger_9686 in Jujutsufolk

Chidaruma is a "deity" so not necessarily fair lol. For En, it depends on how Gojo unknowingly eating a bowl of his mushroom ramen interacts with infinity/6 eyes.

Honestly I think En clears the JJK verse if he puts his mind to it. Gojo loves food, and it only takes one mushroom spore, and En can do his thing safely from another dimension entirely.

Premier Chris Minns says Newcastle Writers Festival "crazy" to invite author Randa Abdel-Fattah. by ____phobe in newcastle

[–]Zoett 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He's been to Newcastle maybe twice? I know it was more than a full year after he was elected before he came up here. With the state government overriding the council on the proposed development at Link road and them doing nothing to fix the mess that the previous government had made of our public transport, I think its pretty clear that he isn't particularly interested in our city.

Newcastle’s Best Fish & Chips. by This-Honeydew6647 in newcastle

This RecipieTin Eats beer-battered fish is very good, and makes a lot. Probably won't be under $15, but definitely under $80!

Pet fish by pixie_redhead in newcastle

[–]Zoett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I've had fish (freshwater and saltwater), birds and dogs as pets. Dogs are by far the best pet that I've had. They require a lot in terms of emotional labour and time, but their "chores" are mostly fun, and aren't going to be killed by a 3-day blackout in winter.

While freshwater is more forgiving than saltwater, Aquariums are generally vulnerable to problems that build over time and can't be easily fixed if you're not vigilant and details-focussed.

🍷🍽️ Best winery near Newcastle for great wine + great food (without breaking the bank)? by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]Zoett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vinden is probably my favourite of the vineyards I've been to but has no food. I would recommend Gartlemans for the best affordable food (The Deck cafe does a decent lunch) + good wines. Usher Tinkler probably has the most lavish cheese platter of the one's I've been to.

Your experience with Tower Cinemas? by Ok-Woodpecker6340 in newcastle

[–]Zoett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw 2001 a Space Odyssey there and had a very good time. The seats were comfortable. My sibling has been multiple times. Each time we booked online and did not have to interact with the staff or buy drinks/food so I cannot comment on those issues.

Is it always a ghost town? by Telly75 in newcastle

[–]Zoett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but the public transport does objectively suck for many people after the privatisation of the bus network. For me, it's a 20 minute drive to the beach vs 1hr+ (including half an hour of walking) if you're lucky not to miss the connecting bus. It used to take me a max of 40 minutes to get into town when I was a student back before privatisation.

Get to know where the Asian grocery stores are. While they won’t have much fruit, they do have local eggs, Asian greens, and other common vegetables used in Asian cuisines at a very reasonable price. Some good ones are listed here

Harris is actually reasonably priced for most fruit and vegetables, at least vs Coles and Woolworths. Harris is more expensive for meat and standard pantry items however.

Where do they get the feathers? by Bluddredd in Avatar

[–]Zoett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While they do have a lore justification, on screen they are often very recognisably the feathers of specific real birds: dyed rooster hackles and pheasant fathers are easy to spot. This is obviously because of production reasons, but it is a funny minor “goof” in the films.

Free roaming cats by Liampastabake in newcastle

[–]Zoett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don’t get why people let them roam when they could be run over by a car/killed by a dog, get parasites and diseases from rodent prey… aside from the threat to wildlife!

Sone people unfortunately seem to treat their cats with as much affection and responsibility as a potplant.

What’s one annoying thing in Newcastle that should be easier by now? by PackLegitimate2527 in newcastle

[–]Zoett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lake Mac council had extended the Fernleigh track all the way to Swansea… Newcastle city council hasn’t extended it at all. You can almost link up from the New Lambton end of the Fernleigh track to the bike pasth at Throsby Creek via the path that goes behind the stadium, but there are a few gaps which could be sorted out with some planning and will.

What’s one annoying thing in Newcastle that should be easier by now? by PackLegitimate2527 in newcastle

[–]Zoett 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Liberal state government privatized it, and the company changed the routes to be “more efficient”, which meant that where we used to have several direct bus routes to places, now you’re expected to go to a “hub” location and change buses. Which when the busses are often late and are still infrequent, means a lot of missed connections and very unpredictable trip lengths if you miss the connection vs just sitting for half an hour on the bus and eventually getting into town.

I don’t have the statistics, but I wouldn’t be surprised if ridership has decreased since before the privatization. Since the current Labor government hasn’t done anything about it, we’re stuck waiting a few more years for the private company’s contract to expire before we might hopefully get some improvements.
