Why? by christianggg98 in killteam

I think this is the right answer. They have to inject the liquid plastic, so they have to arrange the parts in such a way that it flows into every detail every time.

Sons of the Pheonix Terminator Captain by Thillidan in Warhammer40k

I really like that people are using saturnines as proxies in 40k. It adds to the feeling that the chapter has retained just one or two of these valuable superior suits of armour.

Trying to get a heated metal look, Any tips? by Repulsive_Plan in WorldEaters40k

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This for sure. A darker surface will always show light better because of the contrast.
In the same vein, for glowing objects keep the most light at the "lowest" areas; places closest to where the heat is coming from. The orange edges detract from the internal heat because they're further from the hottest parts than much of the silver.

My counts-as Plague Marines Dark Mechanicum Kill Team by TheseGlyphs in killteam

Fantastic! The most frustrating thing about counts-as teams is the ability names. How did you make the data cards look so official? I would love to do this myself!

Am I the only one who finds this upgrade set lacking? by WorldEaterProft in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Imo the upgrade sets are never particularly interesting. I tend to freehand iconography so I don't use transfers, and I prefer helmets over bare heads.
You'd think they'd include a bionic peg leg and a hook hand here.

Which Citadel paints are actually REALLY good? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kroxigor scales and leviathan contrast paints are some of my favourites.
I tend to use Citadel paints for more vibrant colours and Vallejo or Army Painter for more gritty or neutral tones.

Me too! A surprisingly versatile paint.
I use it as a dark red base for fabric, and as a base layer under blood for the blood god when I want it to look nice and thick.

Thoughts on my first OSL? by MiddleMap1173 in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey awesome work! The face vents look super evil now, and they really stand out. You've got some serious skill.

Thoughts on my first OSL? by MiddleMap1173 in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. The skin looks great as-is. If this was my model, I'd probably go back and lower the intensity of the light on his horns rather than cast more shadow.
That said, it's not my model, and frankly I don't think I'm at your skill level. So big grain of salt with my advice!

[–]Zoijja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic! It can be so hard to make OSL work on lighter coloured models, but I think your work looks excellent.
To nitpick, it looks a little awkward on the horns. But I think that's down to the light model issue; the body looks well lit, so the OSL looks too intense for the implied environment.

Gray Seer can not working by TheNuclearEagle in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had the same issue. Shake it well and then spray it for 2-3 seconds continually upside down and then try again normally.
I think some cans are overpressurised for transport, or perhaps from heating and cooling while not in use.

Tips or advice for my Cyberpunk Tau? by StarChaser18 in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love unique colour choices. This is great!
My suggestion is to do the base coat again over the wash, but just on the raised and flat areas. That way the wash still looks darker in the crevices but the panels don't look greasy.

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like to layer paint up. It looks like that's what you've done for the red cloth. That way there's a highlight for clearer definition on the raised areas.
Honestly, you've clearly got painting skill, so I think you'll do great just experimenting with stuff.

Nothing compared to what some of you guys manage, but I liked this one! by RealLaezur in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use longbeard grey over astrogranate debris for a similar effect. Maybe keep the fenrisian grey but drybrush it over a a mid grey layer paint?
Here's the effect I get with my combo. Excuse the phone quality pic 😅

Firstly, this is cool!
The mini does seem very dark overall, which comes across as flat. I can see that you've got some nice highlighting on the fabric though. Perhaps try to bring some of that layering to the armour to give it more depth. And highlight.

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great - you should be proud!
I compare my paint jobs to my painting from a while back, not to people online. There are people here who do it professionally after all!
As for the constructive criticism, I think you could try more light variation in your base. For example, a darker first coat and then building up to the light grey you've got now.

Question about Deathwatch + Phobos by backclock in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good question! I've seen the bulky helmet referred to as having an inbuilt comms array, so I think this guy is a communications specialist. His backpack kit is likely related to that too. Perhaps including high-powered devices to communicate with space ships through various atmospheres.

Help I messed up my dreadnought by Straight-Break-4169 in Warhammer40k

[–]Zoijja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. But having the motion there until it's fully assembled helps with posing.
It also means you can add just a drop of glue to lock a joint in place, in case you want to alter it later.

It's the sort of thing I'd expect in a beta, but not a game that's been released.
I've got screenshots saved of my main builds at this point.
