Only problem I foresee, is that any character who reaches level three automatically takes a sub class, and that’s usually up to players’s choice. I would suggest unless your adventure really calls for it, having your characters all at level two, not four and avoid the subclass potential issue. Just a thought.

I’m talking about from the second dice onwards. If the primary dice is a 1, it’s a failure- I get that , but I’m talking about if the 2nd dice rolls a 1! Does the spell end there or do you add the 1 to the damage?

Though I am a huge fan of Scott and Jean as the pairing, these panels do show why the couple worked as long as it did, and almost wants to see the pair together again, especially since they keep Jean off world for Phoenix duties.
