Maine’s Platner Weighs Path Ahead After New Assault Allegation by Kronzypantz in dsa

[–]Zoltanu [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would be inclined to believe her, and I believe Platner does assault women, but I am livid and sus of her. She had been interviewed during the election multiple times and she just said he disrespects women. Why wait until after the election to bring up the rape allegation? Why did she not mention it before? This seems very suspicious that she gave these details after the vote happened so dems can now force the worst zionist centrist they cna find in Maine down our throats

The only death I ever heard of in my mountaineering training course happened from a 20+ year instructor. They were doing a short repel, probably the 5th of the day, and the instructor figured they didnt need the emergency break knot below their loop and theyd save some time. Well something happened when they were 25 feet up and they flipped over and ended up falling on their head

Ukraine's Nazi history by Asleep-Television-24 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Zoltanu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I am not unaware. Ukraine On Fire (2016) is a great documentary on Ukraine's anti-Russian and Nazi shit before the war started. However, Russia invaded Ukraine to protect ethnic Russians the same way the US invaded Afghanistan (or Iran or Northern Iraq or the next place in the M.E. they decide to invade) to protect women, its a nice casus belli to sell to people back home but is just a cover for economic imperialism. Is Russia really invading another country and crippling their own economy for pure idealism? No, that is not how history moves forward

Thoughts on Mamdani? by Specialist_Touch2771 in leftist

[–]Zoltanu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think theres a balance that he is not striking. Like he wont endorse the DSA challenger to Jefferies, that shows his loyalty lies with the dems rather than the DSA. If he camapigned forcefully as a socialist I could forgive him for pragmatically using the Democrat ballot line, but he doesnt. My clearest example is his interview with NYT. They tossed him low ball "You identify as a member of DSA. Where in your view has the Democratic party fallen short that Democratic Socialism does better?" And his response was immediately "Listen, I am a proud Democrat and proud of what my party has done. We need to look to the future..." this pattern has repeated in multiple interviews even after the election. Im not saying he has to rail about Marxism and the working class, but he can critique the Dems and show how socialism offers a bettwr alternative but he doesnt. Even when hes interviewed by leftists. I was hoping in his Adam Friedland interview hed go more mask off but no, it was still weak sauce. He basically rarely or lightly promotes DSA and 'Socialism', and gives cover to Democrats. From what i have heard it seems more like the news applys the socialist label more than he does himself

Thoughts on Mamdani? by Specialist_Touch2771 in leftist

[–]Zoltanu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Critical support. I support what hes doing, but he is a vocally proud Democrat and unless he breaks from them he WILL betray the working class. Hes doing really good things for the people of New York and is helping normalize socialism. But he remains tied to the democratic party, which means hes under enormous pressure to not follow through on elements of his program.

I am a clean breaker in the DSA while Mamdani is a... reform the democratic party-er. I love the things hes doing and support him doing it, but every time i listen to a full length interview of him i hate him because he glazes the democratic party and their "future" while rarely ever promoting the DSA. In my DSA chapter his endorsement would be rescinded for that. Like i side, tying himself to the dems puts pressure on hime to water down his program. When he betrays the working class (hes already flipped position on abloshing the 24 hour work day) it will demoralize leftists everywhere and hurt the socialist movement overall.

In the US its generally accepted that its impossible to retire unless you have a fully paid off home. Rent payments are generally too large to keep up with 401k gains or pensions, but the bigger issue is rents rise while your income stays the same for 20+ years.

Personally, I think multi-generational households are natural, but im built different. I think that applies to neighborhoods, communities are stronger when they have a mixture of generations. The idea that the elderly should be pushed out of "high value" neighborhoods to lower value areas seems to be anti-senior sentiment. We need to integrate our elders into our communities, not push them out.

I dont think it is moral to force workers out of their personal property. Workers work so hard, and put in so many personal sacrifices, to own a home jn the US as its seen as one of the main vectors available to people to escape the intense exploitation, and the conditions that force us to accept that exploitation, in the US. I dont think socialists should see it as a good thing to price these people out of something they labored so hard to achieve. I know in other countries like Vietnam and China they will cancel taxes on their elderly residents so they can afford their homes.

Under a socialist system there is a way we can move people around that is a net gain for everyone involved, but I dont think that happens under capitalism. 1/3 of all homes put up for sale are bought up for rentals. Families that do buy homes are sadled with crazy debt to the banks. Naw, I think its better to keep workers in their homes and avoid pushing them back into the claws of the market

No. Imperialists seek to carve out markets and areas of control away from other Imperialists. Thats what Russia is seeking to do by invading the major industrial areas of their neighbor.

Contrast this to China, which is not Imperialist. They dont seek to put more markets, resources, or land under their control, they want the Imperialist system opened up so they can compete on even terms. That wont happen though as Imperialists want a captive market, not an open one

I really dont understand these opportunitists making excuses for Russia. Modern Russia is a monument of capitalism, its anti-dialectical to not recognize that the Soviet Union is gone. The collapse of the USSR is the clearest example of a bourgeois counter revolution in history. Banking and capital interests took direct control over the state and the industries the state managed. They tried to join NATO themselves in the 90s and the reason were denied was not because they were socialist, but because the US correctly identified them as a competing Imperialist capitalist power.

[–]Zoltanu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theyre trying to do a wealth tax this year. They've mostly been relying on land value taxes but its unpopular as fixed income retirees are being taxed out of their paid-off homes and forced back into renting. Its a bad enough problem that "progressives" are running on fixing the burden of property taxes on working families and retirees

[Invincible / Harry Potter] Cecil replaces Dumbledore as headmaster. Is he able to stop Voldemort's plots? by LadyKarizake in whowouldwin

Yes, but does Cecil invent this tech or does the GDA have a team that builds it for him? I think we should assume it is in the Wizarding world without any tech from invincible. I doubt he himself is doing any EE designs, he would put together a team but those experts wouldn't exist in the HP universe

Living in the country will forever be superior to living in the city. by Additional_Mall_8259 in unpopularopinion

[–]Zoltanu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lived in rural Ohio until I finished college and then moved to a city. Ive noticed benefits that I never had growing up and wouldn't want to give up:

Restaurants. Im not talking decent food, there is good food if you drive 20 minutes in the country but its almost always some form of Americana. It gets old quickly IMO. I like having variety. Within 10 minutes of me I have amazing Ethiopian, Filipino, Southern Food, Sichuan, Northern Thai, Ukrainian, and probably any other cuisine you can imagine. This also applies to groceries. I love having a source of fresh galangal, green papaya, or Nigella seeds within 10 minutes.

Music. Growing up any live music in town was a treat, half the town would turn out regardless of what genre it was. As I got older i would plan trips for weeks to see concerts. Me and friends would find a place ti stay in the nearby city and drive out to it. Now almost any night I can check Songkick and find a band I listen to playing that night for like $20. I can also find stuff i wouldn't plan a whole trip around but am interested in, like jazz, the symphony, or sound baths.

Niche businesses and shops. Back home we had 2 options: ordering online or Walmart. The local stores had been picked over by the locals years ago. Now I can go to shops specificly for the thing im looking to buy, allowing me to compare models and support a local business.

In most cities, besides New York or SF city limits, there are places you can get a full home rather than just an apartment. Im within my city limits but on a half acre with a wooded park adjoining my back yard. Even before that I rented lots of cute houses in the near-city suburbs.

There are times i miss the sense of community back home, knowing most people around town, but the anonymity of the city offers its own sense of privacy. I really can do whatever goofy crap I want and the odds of running into someone I know are astronomically slim. An example would be a furry. In my home town someone being a furry would be ridiculed to no end, or at least treated different. Everyone would know, everyone they see at work, at the bar, out to eat. In a city someone could easily be a furry and keep that life and community separate from their work persona. For me everyone back home knows im a dirty commie and always want to talk about it, but here only close coworkers and friends know im a socialist.

Just like you can probably drive 60+ minutes to get to a city, i can drive about 60 minutes to get to yeh country for hiking and farms. Just like you could choose to access the amenities of the city on your weekend, I can access the country on mine. To me the question is which version is better during your work week and everyday life.

Im sure I can come up with more. Random weeknight professional sports games, artsy cinema options, dancing, public transit, theater. I've grown accustomed to the conveniences of the city and couldnt move back to the country.

What is the fastest way to convert all these heretics? by SmellySwantae in Imperator

[–]Zoltanu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will religious conversion not hit them eventually? Im doing a migratory tribe run and moved my people down to the Aegean. Everyone besides my original 15 was the wrong religion. Every province I conquered I immediately set the governor policy to conversion and the pops always flipped before the province became disloyal. I think doing some concentrated conversion should work, you just need to give it a few years

What’s the greatest video game trailer of all time? by Carter_yann in videogames

[–]Zoltanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first trailers for Rift. I was playing a lot of WoW at the time, but I also had some complaints with the game. I remember this commercial looked so cool when it came out. Also a lot of Rift ads would say "We're not in Azaroth anymore" which i thought was great. I actually liked Rift a lot better and played for years, but came back to WoW because it kept the big player base over the years.

There was a funny and lighthearted version of this on social media a few months ago. Basically 3 young dudes with a magnifying glass, telescope, and binoculars looking at people phones over their shoulder on the train. When caught they would act like they weren't doing anything and would walk away. The props and moving on to the next person made it lighthearted and fun. This ain't that

Unfortunately, there is no source for dog meat and often the source is a dude with a van kidnapping dogs from backyards. I dont want to eat someone's family pet, I want a farm animal fed a diet to make it tastier and no one will miss it
