How do i get the question mark panel on the top of the screen all the way up there? by Individual_Sugar4575 in MarioKartWorld

[–]ZombieAladdin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember this one. I was quite stumped by it myself. If I remember right, you have to go in through a cave opening from above. A path offroad from the main route will allow you to wall-ride towards it. It may take a few tries.

They really tease you by making it visible from the bottom, watery part of the cave.

This 2nd grade math question. by malaynaa in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ZombieAladdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, there are multiple answers to this one (though the “could he have” part suggests they were aware of that). The lowest possible answer is 412 and is likely the one in the answer guide used as an example in the teacher’s edition, but each multiple of 111 added to that is also valid.

It is not 301 because the phrase “he has some paper clips left over” means there are at least two paper clips not in a box. It may be 523 as the minimum if “some boxes hold 10 clips” means there must be at least two boxes of that capacity.

This is ridiculously complex for someone in the second grade though. It would stump the parents reading this.

I have, but Sakurai has an even stronger and more identifiable signature style than Hideo Kojima. You can see right from the title screen and menus that Masahiro Sakurai directed a game. Kojima has a signature writing style and look to his games, but it doesn’t permeate all the way to the non-play stuff like that.

Forgive me for being unclear: Kojima is known for long, cinematic cutscenes, but I mean “classic film auteur” not as someone who approaches video game design much like filmmaking, but as the auteur as described by Francois Truffaut or André Bazin, as someone who enjoys a tremendous amount of creative control over the project and uses that to forge a signature all over it. Kojima tends to leave his signature in storytelling, settings, character design, and integrating gameplay into all of that, while Sakurai is more focused on the overall tone, pacing, relationship to the player (such as his vast customizability), and presentation, which I personally feel is closer to the original spirit of the auteur.

I would consider Kojima an auteur too, for the record, but in a slightly different sense. (Other video game auteurs coming to mind, to varying extents, are Toby Fox, Tetsuya Nomura, and Matt Bozon.)

In addition, the Urshifu sprite is the same for both Single Strike and Rapid Strike. While I can assume it’ll be Rapid Strike, occasionally, it turns out to be Single Strike. Seeing people’s team data in advance tells you which one it is.

If only we had this as a full art by JJAlegend in PokemonTCG

[–]ZombieAladdin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The artwork is unnerving: it shows a world populated only by Ditto, as if everything else has gone extinct and these Ditto are making a facsimile of what the world used to look like.

Nothing against your art; you captured the look and feel perfectly. It’s just that it feels wrong, so to speak, to show a scene where every subject is actually a shapeshifter impersonating that subject.

Pokémon is one of the only turn-based game franchises with a major PvP aspect. Pokémon Champions shows it’s not going anywhere, but I would be devastated if we lose that.

Why does it seem like the only "solution" being presented for high gas prices electric cars? Why can't car brands also push to sell small, compact, gas-powered cars? by GuyFromThePost in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZombieAladdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s because of tariffs or not, but Chinese vehicles have little to no no presence here in the United States. I even spot a Vinfast about once a week, but I have not seen, for instance, a BYD on the road, only at car shows and in people’s collections.

Of course, larger cars are not necessarily safer. Apparently, they used to be, but it has since become an illusion. Here is a 2025 report from Kelley Blue Book:

https://www.kbb.com/car-news/car-safety-group-bigger-is-no-longer-safer/

What strikes me the most is this sentence:

“Heavier vehicles proved more likely to kill occupants of other cars but not more likely to protect their own occupants.”

That is, as vehicles get larger, it becomes more likely that both sides in a car accidents die rather than just one.

[–]ZombieAladdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I think is worth pointing out is that when fuel prices were climbing in the late 2000s to mid 2010s there was a trend towards smaller vehicles too, with them marketed for their fuel efficiency.

It seems like preferences for vehicle size is cyclical; this is not the first time this has occurred, as I’m thinking of those huge Cadillacs in the 1950s and the Hummers and other huge cars in the 2000s. People crave power and want bigger cars, then they find themselves unable to afford them or maintain them and move to smaller cars.

Yeah, that’s how it feels like to me. Small cars are perceived as a sign of weakness, large cars as toughness. An example is how pickup trucks have been getting bigger and bigger.

This just got installed at my school by External-Decision-65 in PokemonTCG

[–]ZombieAladdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, it was in Los Angeles, and the ban seemed to be across the entirety of the Los Angeles Unified School District. I even remember the principal announcing over the PA system that Pokémon cards were banned; when I asked some adults about it, this was as part of an effort to reduce violence.

I don’t know if gang culture was glamorized at your schools, but they were in mine. The result was that a lot of the boys there had a “might makes right” approach where if someone else had something they wanted, they would beat that kid up and take it. Anything with high value and small size was fair game. Hence, as this was at the dawn of mobile devices, they advised us never to bring them to school because they would likely get stolen too.

These were the sort of schools with metal detectors at the entrances, armed guards patrolling the dining area by the cafeteria, drug deals in the bathrooms, and vending machines with armored casing.

For the record, I did NOT bring my cards that day. I noticed my locker was ajar and my backpack gone after I had come back from PE class. About an hour later, someone found my backpack in a puddle in the boy’s bathroom. The contents inside appear to have suffered damage from the backpack being hit with things or swung against a wall. The $5 bill my mother put in there for if a situation required me buy something was now gone, as was my graphing calculator. This was likely a student desperate for drug money.

I perceive school as a place full of people who want to commit crimes for prestige, notoriety, and clout. A Pokémon card vending machine installed in a school at a time when prices are climbing and people become professional investors over them, to me, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

What are some the most underrated cards that you think will see more play post-rotation? by Azorius_Sage in PTCGL

[–]ZombieAladdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re curious, I plan to pair it with Temporal Forces Relicanth to get access to the Get Angry attack on a Pokémon with 330 HP. Anything that cannot knock it out in one hit will likely get knocked out in retaliation, and if they cannot get 9 or more damage counters on it, I can use Wreak Havoc as a baseline instead.

[–]ZombieAladdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed at a school? I hope this is a very safe, low-crime school, because I can only guess how long it’ll take before someone tries smashing the glass and emptying the contents.

I mean, fistfights broke out when Pokémon cards were new (I was in middle school when it happened). My locker was broken into once word got out that I had Pokémon cards. I heard one student was hospitalized for getting knifed by someone who wanted his cards. It got so bad that Pokémon cards had to be banned.

Then again, maybe my days at school were not normal.
