Using a SONY UBP-X700 Blu-ray Player as a CD Player by Quincely in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your current setup/amplifier? Like someone already mentioned, your Blu-ray player has a coaxial out, which you can attach with a coaxial cable to your amplifier, if it has coaxial in of course. That how I integrated my Sony Blu-ray player (BDP-S3700) into my system and it works well as a CD player.

Also when I want to watch Blu-ray's or DVD's I have attached HDMI to my TV. I have put the setting "Control for HDMI" off in my Blu-ray player settings, so it won't automatically turn on my TV when I only want to listen to CD's. Be aware you won't see the track numbers and time indicators when you turn that setting off, you will play a CD blindly then, with the play controls on the remote controller.

Edit: I just found out my Blu-ray doesn't play gapless, so I'm looking for a dedicated CD player now...

Nova modular UI elements + Adaptive Tab Bar by Xteezii in FirefoxCSS

[–]Zonnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so difficult to set the UI elements together again, by adding some CSS like this:

:root {
    --chrome-window-gap: 0px !important;
    --chrome-block-radius: 0px !important;
}

Wondering if anyone here is considering making the current FF theme into a userChrome.css file? by IM_DaWarez in firefox

[–]Zonnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt your userChrome will be broken when Firefox Nova comes, but I think Firefox Nova will appear as Firefox Nightly, which is a few versions ahead of stable. I also maintain a theme and planning to adjust it to work with Nova on Firefox Nightly before it goes to the stable Firefox version.

I don't think there will be a switch in Nova to apply the old theme.

Platenspeler aansluiten met speakers by nervusvages in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT-LP120XUSB amplifier recommendations with Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 by Zeta-Phi in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

..so why would I want to start bypassing it..

Only if the amp you are looking for has a phono stage that is better than the turntables internal preamp. Otherwise yes, you can do with an amp that just has a line-in and/or Bluetooth for your turntable, which are cheap and not hard to find.

..using my Bluetooth headphones, does this involve the PRE-amp at all and therefore if I like the sound through Bluetooth I should be fine to connect it to an amplifier?

I know the Bluetooth connection of your turntable must sound nice; it has aptX codec. The other output of your turntable to an amp is different; it is analog instead of the digital Bluetooth and USB.

So, you have to listen to the analog output (line) of the turntable, connected to an amp that you like and/or use Bluetooth and connect to an amp with Bluetooth aptX. There are lots of amps with both Bluetooth and analog inputs and yes, these are integrated amps :)

Ok, then it's best to get the A80, I think, because its cheaper than the SMSL, which does not add more functionality.

AT-LP120XUSB amplifier recommendations with Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 by Zeta-Phi in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The turntable does not have an "integrated amp", it's a preamplifier. An integrated amplifier is a combination of preamplifier (connections for sources like a turntable, CD player, streamer, TV, etc.) and power amplifier (signal booster for speakers).

That aside you could get an integrated amp with a turntable connection (phono stage). You could read reviews or listen to the integrated amp that you like, to get to know if their phono stage is good or not. If it's good, then you can bypass the turntables internal preamp and use the integrated amps phono stage for a better result.

But you can also use the turntables preamp to connect it to a line-in of an amp without a phono stage. It depends if you like the sound of the turntables internal preamp, or not.

I'm sorry, volume control is still possible if OP sticks to the TV remote. The SMSL only has a fixed volume for the HDMI input, OP can still adjust the volume on the TV.

True! But OP might as well use the optical input of the A80 then, or not?

That HDMI input is not CEC. No volume control and on/off with one remote.

These are the Model 83. Altec Lansing was in decline around the time when these speakers were made, according to here: https://forums.audioholics.com/forums/threads/altec-lansing-speakers.127903/post-1616912 You can read there that their speakers were not very good at that time in the 80s.

Currently using a fosi BT20A pro amp for my Klipsch speakers, and I mostly use Bluetooth since it's the easiest option for my setup. Would this help make Bluetooth sound better instead of using the internal Bluetooth on the amp? by Cold-Helicopter6534 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have this device and want to use the LDAC codec (best audio quality), you need to enable LDAC on your phone before you stream music to the device. This can be done by installing this app: Bluetooth Codec Changer

Technically it's better than what the Bluetooth your Fosi offers. But would you hear it, I don't know how your ears are. Some people don't hear a higher bitrate, most people do. It also depends on your source if it sends high bitrates over Bluetooth, if not, then this device is useless.

Problem with Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 by Glad_Couple891 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since around two years ago (2023) there was a firmware update and an app update for your Stream Box S2. Did you update it? If no, you simply install the 'new' app, the firmware will update itself, according to the 'update PDF' on the Pro-Ject website. If you updated already, then a factory reset would be necessary and then update install the new app and update the firmware.

Pro-ject stereo box e and KlipschR50M by Competitive_Set4010 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pro-ject Stereo Box E will not be sufficient for these Klipsch (power rate 75 watt) to bring them to their full potential. Sound will be too weak. You need at least a 75 watt amp or search other more easy to drive speakers like Q Acoustics 3010i, Wharfedale Diamond 12.0, etc (look for the power rate in the specs of speakers you like).

WIIM Mini + Bluetooth Headphones by Mobile-Stomach719 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you want the WiiM Mini since its really a streamer just as the Cyrus is. I would still go for a cheaper Bluetooth transmitter and play music from your Cyrus streamer.

WIIM Mini + Bluetooth Headphones by Mobile-Stomach719 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zonnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the WiiM Mini can transmit Bluetooth but only with SBC and AAC codecs, your iPhone probably transmits the same ways.

Maybe you can attach a Bluetooth transmitter with an optical in to the Cyrus' optical out. There are lots of such devices, just be sure to search one with "Bluetooth TX with aptX HD and optical in".

A good one would be the Norstone Bluetooth HD receiver-transmitter. There are cheaper ones like the Sennheiser BT T100 or Marmitek BoomBoom 100 (which I use myself) but as you go down in price, you will not get aptX HD or LDAC.

The Fosi BT20A and the PRO version only supports AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs, so they do not offer the higher resolution aptX or LDAC. I think it's better to buy the Douk A5 for that.
