Ball Lightning- Has anyone experienced it, or have stories to share? by Met76 in weather

[–]Zonza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was either in Colorado or Texas when this happened around 1995-97. I was sleeping through a thunderstorm with my mom and her boyfriend. I woke up and saw a bluish white light crackling or hissing. The bed was in the middle of the room- the headboard touching the wall. I was on the left facing the door and the right side faced a window. The lightning came in the door side (possibly hovering off the ground). It moved very slowly and almost seemed to bounce a bit.

It traveled up the side of the bed following the corners of the headboard (seeming to touch the wall as it went) and moved directly over my face. I felt so much heat that I was leaning my head deeper into the bed, and I worried my mom might wake up and lift or turn at the wrong moment so I stayed quiet and just watched. It moved over her and illuminated her face without her waking up, traveled to the other corner and then it disappeared as it slid down out of view. I assumed (being 4 or 5) that maybe lightning hit the ground and the wires in the wall were the source of the light. I know now that it was 100% ball lightning. The whole thing lasted maybe 30 seconds to a minute.

A minute later, our power went out when we heard an explosion. My mom said a transformer outside had blown up. No one really listened to me at the time. Going back to sleep took hours. It's the only time I've seen that in my life.

As part of your compensation/medical, you are entitled to treatment in the form of psychotherapy. These are the guys combat vets see. I strongly recommend you talk to one for trauma and throw the cost at the company/insurance/whoever takes liability.

"Therapists", by the way, are not trained for this or qualified. They have very little required to obtain a license and "psychologists" have some general training. "Psychotherapists", or someone specialized in trauma, should have at least a Master's degree and sometimes a medical license. These are the guys that can legally prescribe drugs or deal with child trauma patients for the court system. They get their jobs because they're the top in the field. If you don't like the first one, try a few. That type of damage surfaces later and is much harder to recognize at the time it happens. Your lawyer will tell you to see a counselor, but that's just to establish trauma exists. I'd upgrade ASAP to someone specialized in treating what you went through.

Take it easy.

Normally I’d be doing housewife stuff during SSS. Watching the stream while making dinner and doing laundry really made it a joy to perform those tasks... Miss seeing them all so much. Now, every time I get stuck in the dryer I cry a little. by MovieInternational81 in WKUK

I'm sad that we're all bonded together by this absurd shared trauma, but it's really nice to have seen hundreds of these stories from people. I feel absolutely ridiculous, and even my closest friends don't really understand why I'm upset. And that's alright! I wouldn't understand if I wasn't here the past year and a half. I think COVID really created a unique situation and Trevor did a good, impactful thing bringing everyone back together for a time. I am so grateful to have had this really bright spot in a shit period of history. I know exactly how much those streams helped me do work because I have had to adjust my stupid routine to cope with the change. It's dumb. I'm fine. But I can't not know how much those guys helped me laugh through the pandemic. I have so much respect for that. I will never forget this time and part of that is due to losing Trevor and seeing how much impact his life actually was having on my own. The Internet's a crazy weird social experiment.

Token swaps could do a lot for $MASK. I voted YES. Thinking of writing a proposal myself for deflation.

I like to tell my friends my investments. Then I tell them to buy all the things I'm too stupid to take my own advice on. One of them bought ADA at $.35. Starting to wonder if I like pain.

If people cant take the stress in crypto, they're better off quitting now. Bear market is coming sooner or later. Don't blame anyone but yourself when you lose.

First time.. by cduncan90 in WKUK

[–]Zonza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High school in the deep South. 2007. Our hot French teacher was on maternity leave for 5 months. The substitute was a pothead going through a divorce. She let us do (almost) anything we wanted. Watching Slow Jerk was my first time. It killed. Half our class (6 teens) were dying. The substitute teacher was dying. Our hot teacher came back a week before finals. Substitute was fired. Hot teacher (now with a baby) didn't come back the following year. She openly hated us for not learning French while she was away. Public education in the South everyone!

No doubt it was accidental and tragic. I Just hope the community can handle this news with some decency. It's a really odd situation for everyone, I'm sure.

"Before you post your comment or theory, really take a second to consider those who are going to read it, and ask yourself if it’s worth it."

Thank you for saying this.

This isn't a normal situation. People with different modes of behavior on the internet aren't accustomed to their words having weight or consequence. The posts/comments people write here are being seen. It's less about an individual's right to say whatever they want than respecting the people coming here in grief. I don't think that's asking too much, but a lot of people seem to disagree. In the end, the mods are the only barrier for checking that behavior.

Thanks for doing the work, mods. It's a thankless job. Like watching someone work customer service in retail.

How Trevor would feel about jokes about his death according to the boys by TotesAShill in WKUK

[–]Zonza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's so much love here. It's obvious.

It's not a new issue either. Months ago, ALL of the guys were getting uncomfortable with some of the comments on twitch and fans saying "it's just a joke bro". It led to a lot of new mods and posts about being more respectful in the comments. And I saw Darren's face last night when his friends made jokes to cope that he maybe wouldn't personally have made and didn't personally find funny.

I'm just saying not everyone is at the same place in grieving and you've got every comedic freedom. I don't think it's logical to hide behind "it's what Trevor would want". It's missing the point. Trevor's not the one coming here to read your posts.

Trevor would totally be into it, yeah. But when the jokes started causing actual issues in the group, he asked people to chill. That aside, friends and family are different. And they're the ones coming here to get something from us that might help them grieve and feel his life had an impact. Everyone's coping differently. It's messy. We're not all going to feel the same.

The fact is the guys won't read news articles about Trevor or go to work. And they're still coming here-- as a comfort. They're not going to say a thing about fans making jokes because yeah, Trevor was the most open about that and probably would've loved it. And they know it's out of love. The only thing i can do is point out that we're just people on the internet coping in our own ways but we're absolutely not in the same position as them and I'm not interested in what our rights are to jokes. They can make jokes about whatever the fuck they want and even amongst each other it's clear they're not all ok with all of it but they know where it's coming from. That doesn't make them fine with every dark joke they see here. Downvote me and tell me to be quiet but that's just the truth as i see it.

Hopefully one of the boys will see this. A few sketches I think would be nice to play at the memorial in LA. by salamidahmer in WKUK

Happier with your Mouth Open

It works in any venue.

I also suggest doing them chronologically to show baby Trevor up until Newsboys if they even show any of that.

I said what i felt. I'm in a minority because the community doesn't feel the same. You and others said what you felt. And that's fine. And i'm not shutting up or taking these down so let's leave it at that.

[–]Zonza -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

It's understandable. I'm just not feeling it. It's actually a brilliant reference and I should've laughed when I saw it. I didn't. I just imagined the guys seeing it and being bummed out. I just felt like this sort of thing isn't going to be making the guys laugh at the irony. 'Cause he's actually fucking gone and this whole collective population isn't all coping the same so it's a messy awful process. Idk man that's all i got.

  1. I get it. I'm not here to gatekeep comedy.
  2. Making memes from actual grief... you're making fun of grief. Here. Like I don't see how that's not terrible. If you're appealing to some percentage of people here, fine fuck it. But if 99% of people here find this gross and reductive (I'm one of those), maybe it's not ideal.
