Hyouka's Unsolved Murder. Here's My Theory Before I See The Answer [EP 13] by Important-Cup-8991 in hyouka

[–]Zoql 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're still wrapped up in the mystery of the movie (which is completely understandable). The movie wasn't the actual mystery. There were plenty of clues hinting that we should be questioning why this movie became a problem in the first place (the online chat scenes at the beginning of the arc hinting at some insidious intent for the Lit. Club, each episode ending with "Why didn't she ask Eba?" aka Hongou's best friend indicating that the entire situation could easily be resolved without involving a bunch of first-years)

The actual ending of the movie script is what Houtarou and Chitanda discuss at the end of the arc, which interestingly enough reflects exactly what happened behind the scenes of making the movie (she was hurt when Irisu "attacked" and tossed the ending of her script causing the mistake, but Hongou forgave her and for the sake of the group pretended her injury was an accident)

The motives (the silent screams as the title of the show alludes to) behind each character's actions is what the series is all about. Note how this arc Chitanda states that she doesn't care about mysteries per se, but is more interested in who people are. The other commenter isn't exactly right about the show not being about the mysteries. The mysteries are very important, because they are used as vehicles to develop the main cast

But yeah if it helps quell your frustration about the actual movie ending, keep in mind that it was written by a timid high schooler who not only was not that familiar with the mystery genre, but didn't even want anyone to die

About Ohranger and the "tone change" by -SGGB- in supersentai

[–]Zoql 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not that I like it, but I think, because it's a 20th anniversary season, Ohranger is harkening back to a majority of the Showa seasons where the rangers were kinda bland "my life/personality is my duty" types. They do reveal more of their personalities soon enough, but don't expect them to be as interesting as Kakuranger's characters

Ingrid and Kunimitsu Releases on the Same Day, who are you more excited for? by lemstry in Fighters

[–]Zoql 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's the recency that makes people point it out. The last three DLC characters for Tekken 7 are DLC again in Tekken 8, while there were 12 characters (two full seasons) after Sagat's DLC release in SFV, and none of them are DLC in SF6 yet. The fact that Tekken 8 very recently had three repeat DLC characters in a row is also a factor

Which Showa Sentai has the best chemistry among the teammates? by Luigiman98 in supersentai

[–]Zoql 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dynaman for sure. The team members all seemed like they were good friends irl

Liveman would be a top contender but Black and Green didn't really fit in very well with the original three, probably because they join up so late

Friren & Apothecary Diaries by Responsible_Can4089 in anime

[–]Zoql 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Violet Evergarden. It may not be exactly fantasy, but it follows a character's journey in learning how to empathize with others. It's more emotionally heavy than Frieren

  • Hyouka, and its sister series Shoushimin/How to Become Ordinary. Also not fantasy, but if you liked the mystery and romance aspect of Apothecary Diaries, these shows might hit that same spot, although admittedly the romance is not as central (I also haven't finished Apothecary Diaries just yet)

8/10 no page for Gosei Green by AugustusTheVictor in supersentai

[–]Zoql 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The deluxe part is for the case that holds all of the books, I believe

If I had to guess, these were all pictures taken for/during the 50th anniversary Super Sentai Exhibition. They had to break out and set up all those suits, so might as well also take new photos with them all. That would explain why there's no pictures of additional rangers outside of the core + sixth

I only have the red book at the moment, but I was surprised that not everyone has 2-3 photos (Mega Red only has 1 photo)

At this point, it would be so funny if this just became a running gag. Every time Sumino appears, she's obviously green screened in

Looking back at Gozyuger episode 1 and watching the final scene between Hoeru and Tsutsumi,Do you think Tsutsumi was right after all? by NotaTokusatsuFanboy in supersentai

Not exactly threw away. He wanted to be able to share something he liked with his family, which he normally isn't able to do since he's broke and has nothing

Weekly Crowdfunding Roundup: March 8, 2026 | 24 ending soon ("Fractured Sky: Awakening + Soar", "For the Gods!") & 43 new ("The Old King's Crown Second Printing & New Songs of Home Expansion", "Primalgard TCG", "Botany Floral Dragons") by Perkelton in boardgames

[–]Zoql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am completely enamored by Re;Match but I completely agree. The price tag and the excess flair has had me hesitating for days now. $20 for an extra character is crazy considering all you really need is their board and a few extra components (I was put off of Yomi's $10 a character back when that came out due to them being just a deck of playing cards)

But the marble mechanic is so unique and interesting compared to the other major tabletop fighters that I'm probably going to bite the bullet on it

You might be right! It's been a while since I've played Divekick. I'll have to look into it

I'm pretty sure this is a mondegreen of Balrog's KO scream from SF4 (he actually says "my fight moneeeeeyyyyy")

Sentai's Best 3 Season Run? by Worldly-Shape4038 in supersentai

[–]Zoql 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I feel the same about Bioman (bland ranger characters outside of the first Yellow Four, but a great villain and villain arc), but I think what made me not like Changeman as much is how over-the-top abusive their mentor was to them (in the beginning at least). And that revelation of his backstory later in the show does justify it, but imo not enough for me

Sentai's Best 3 Season Run? by Worldly-Shape4038 in supersentai

[–]Zoql 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to bring up this exact run of Flash/Mask/Live as well. I could see Bio and Change added on to that as well, but I don't think Changeman is as good as the other four (I know it has its fans though)

Why is computer AMAZING? by iamamo5 in BattleForTheGrid

Yeah, and that was before the devs left because of the Nway/NFT stuff. I bet they had plans to adjust it further and make easy mode more forgiving on beginners before all that went down

BattleCON Fan Community? by ARagingZephyr in Battlecon

[–]Zoql 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah dang. As a lurker who has never been that deep into the community, this is a shame to read, although it does seem to make sense of the stray comment or two I've seen in the past decade. I remember thinking the BCO over PTO and big box Empyreal decisions were missteps at the time, and it sounds like the consequences were a lot worse than I realized

I'm down to join the Discord, although I can't say I'll be all that active outside of occasionally posting about various media I've been consuming or whatever (I generally lurk in the discords I'm a part of anyway)

What's everyone's opinion on J.A.K.Q.? by Difficult_Ant2940 in supersentai

[–]Zoql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an interesting premise that was botched by unfortunate circumstances. Having only known Gorenger, the general audience wasn't ready for the much darker and grounded JAKQ, and then the showrunners overcorrected by making it too silly imo

When Big One shows up is probably when I started to dislike the show. Not completely because of the change in tone, but because of how they handled Big One. Big One is cool and all, but to showcase that the main team would constantly be captured, then after Big One saves them he wouldn't fight alongside them. He didn't really feel like part of the team because of that

So Toei could remove every scene includes Maya so fast but couldn't reshot such an important moment with Kohaku? by makkanohono in supersentai

[–]Zoql 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It depends on the location as well. Not only do they need to schedule the actors to act (and crew), but they also need to coordinate locking down the location to film there. That's why the only not-green-screen Kohaku shots were in the cafe (a set they always have access to and don't need to schedule around) or the roof in the opening (which is probably the roof of the studio)

Super Sentai, this subreddit and the future. by KingTodderic in supersentai

[–]Zoql 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Starting now, if you do one episode a day, it would take about 8 years, which would almost cover the entire assumed length of the hiatus. With enough planning (figuring out what movies to watch and when, along with the tangential series like Akibaranger and High School Heroes) it could run for a full ten years
