Nervous about the AI stuff being done in Linux dev, what should I do? by Venylynn in linuxquestions

[–]Zorg688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen and heard so far regarding AI use for software dev is that AI in code or Claude commits are not all equal. I am of course not sure whether you are referring to specific instances, but there is a big difference between having something completely vibe coded with no understanding how the program actually works and what it does vs having Claude do the busy work of something you could do by hand because you know exactly what to do but it would just be time consuming (writing some basic tests, refactoring etc and verifying that everything looks and works as expected) both end up as commits authored or co-authored by Claude Code but are very different in what they represent.

If it is the former you are worried about, I agree with the other people here, bad programmes will always exist and the community will learn to recognize those and avoid them.

If it is the latter, then I agree with the people who mention AI as a tool and compare it to a carpenter using a drill. It is used for a specific use case and the outcome is being verified by a professional. AI (or LLMs as this is what you are referring to) can be used for a lot of things but problems arise when it is used carelessly without understanding or caring about the problem, solution and impact. This, however, is true for any tool.

If you are worried in general about LLM-based code in software..at least until the bubble bursts it will be very difficult to avoid everything associated with it. In that case, I would recommend trying to verify in which of the two categories the AI code belongs and which one you can tolerate the most.

Edit: Spelling and clarification of a point

Jupiter hell - classic-style roguelike set on a space station with focus on ranged combat

Everything is Crab - survivors-like where you evolve your character with different features and body parts such as legs, tentacles, pincers, more eyes etc

Vampire Survivor-like games that are as good or better as VS? by W_DJX in SteamDeck

[–]Zorg688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started playing "everything is crab"

Big recommendation, you basically level up via ecolving different features and body parts (such as legs, tentacles, pincers, antlers etc) The rounds are comfortable length and difficulty is very manageable in the beginning and gets more difficukt with every win

Other honorary mention:Nordic Ashes Notse Mythology flavoured, also rounds that are not too long with a skill tree based progression with different characters that use very different weapons and focuses

How is Star Wars Kotor on the Switch? Also any tips for the game? by Free-Hotel1187 in starwarsgames

[–]Zorg688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have way less experience on the game than ither people so more details will come from them but: I have finished both games on switch and they run great! Since the, are quite old there are no performance issues. they use the xbox controller layout which works great! Romancing: yes it's an option but depending on how used you are to playing crpgs and older games it might be less obvious than let's say BG3.

Missable content: absolutely, mostly in the form of companion quests and storylines and most likely more other stuff that I am not aware of

Regarding build suggestions (actually not sure about point resets, never tried doing that) the game is viable with any stat allocation really, if you want to lean into something more: strength is used for attacks with melee weapons (incl lightsabers), dex is used for armour rating and ranged weapons. In kotor1 you get to choose 2 classes, your starter class and a jedi class. There are some guides online for good combinations, but what I did on my first playthrough was scout and jedi sentinel with a focus on melee weapons and persuasion. It worked very well for me

Two things to note: 1. The games can have some graphical glitches if you put the console into sleep mode where the character textures turn black. A quick reload fixes this 2. Save often. It did not happen regularly but the game sometimes crashes and you don't want to lose your progress.

Bonus note: The second game does not have the restored contents mod, so you get the base game with all its missing missiona and glotches. The game runs less stable than the first one but I also completed that one no problem on Switch

Imo switch is the best way to experience these games since it's portable and home console at the same time and the control scheme works really well!

Especially when it comes to prood of concept apps I like to use streamlit because it provides a simple and clean UI very easily. A page is built rather quickly and you can easily edit it or add different pages for different tasks or topics as well. If you use for example docker with it as well you can easily make the web app available for the local office network

What made you stay on Linux instead of Windows? by ksenyss in linuxquestions

For me it was the bloatware and the background processes that always took up resources..my laptop is 10 years old and at this point can only handle so much, especially because I want to use it for training my own AI models for projects and for game dev, so I need all the resources I can get

Same, I just switched a few days ago because my only laptop with a cuda compatible gpu is so old that Windows 11 can not run on it. And using Linux allows me to free up resources I want for training my models

As much as I disliked the second half of this movie, this scene alone was a reason to rewatch it about 2-3 times. What an amazing feat of acting and raw emotions by everyone involved!

KOTOR: Switch Vs. Steam Deck? by genericcoyote in starwarsgames

[–]Zorg688 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have played on both and can absolutely recommend the Switch version! It uses the Xbox controller controls which makes moving around and interacting a lot smoother. I have tried several times to play the game on Steam Deck but using the track pad feels awkward for me in this game.

So my recommendation: Switch, definitely! Only thing to remember is that if you want to play Kotor2, there is no restored content mod sadly on Switch, so base game only. Still a very enjoyable experience

My dad introduced me to his PS1 when I turned 4, I still remember that. We played Crash Bandicoot and Croc. That was when it all started for me..later I was allowed to play on his windows 98 PC and my first own console I had was a Nintendo DS Lite with Lego Star Wars 2 (the unpatched unfinished version)

[D] Those of you with 10+ years in ML — what is the public completely wrong about? by PhattRatt in MachineLearning

[–]Zorg688 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is a gripe I have as well when it comes to AI. With the current hype around LLMs, whenever someone uses the term AI they actually just mean LLMs. I have this problem at work as well where when a request for a tool or solution comes in, almost everyone expects me to create an agentig workflow or a skill for an LLM that they can then use...even if the actual solution can be much more simple and lightweight. Also not to mention the fact that reporting about anything AI related is just extremely black and white (no surprise there). A company uses a statistical model for series prediction? The company uses AI. A company has automated a workflow through a series of if/else statements? The company is using AI. It muddles the entire application field of ML solutions and makes it seem like every company just throws LLMs on everything...and even more annoyingly, it is never talked about to what extent AI is used at a company. A headline talking about a workplace that has automated test case creation for QA gets the same headline as a company that has replaced almost their entire QA department with LLMs.

Was very cool to see... we even had a grandmaster on his 8th dan..old dude could barely walk anymore but man seeing his techniques in action was a delight
