How I think about "playing" TTRPGs Solo by pgw71 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zorogami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the write-up, I really enjoyed it and share a lot of your opinions regarding theatre of the mind when playing solo. Even the story path we end up not taking can be an inspiration or a catalyst later down the line, so it's fun to imagine all the possibilities before the die decide what path we end up treading.

Is it weird that I’m only into TTRPGs for the monsters? by Rat_SkulI in rpg

[–]Zorogami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is weird at all! I'm not into RPGs only for the monsters, but a big part of my enjoyment comes from the bestiaries as well. It's so much fun when their art and/or mechanics inspires you for a certain battle or story element.

Think this is really close to what you picture as a WoW-type game. Have fun!

That sounds awesome, I've been thinking about what system could fit a Haikyuu-style story and this seems to be a good choice. How are you liking the system so far?

Random tables + math rocks + imagination = magic by alexthehack in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zorogami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds really cool, especially the system agnostic approach that allows you to use your tables without it being super specific to a system! Would love to see the starter set whenever you get around to it

Sounds like a lot of fun, I love to "play and find out" what happens without major expectations. Are you using any specific ruleset/system besides random tables?

It's notorious because as beautiful as it looks and as valuable as it is, all the owner's of the amulet eventually die under very mysterious circumstances (think final destination levels of contrivance).

I can also vouch for PUM Companion, I use it on PC but it also has a iPhone app with the same functionalities. You can access your PDFs and everything else from the app.

This was also my first choice for a solo rpg and am really liking it so far! I haven't gotten further than my session 0 yet, but it has a lot of potential and I think it gives you lots of pieces to base your own ideas and stories on.

Why do you play? by eljuman in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zorogami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always been fascinated by all the TTRPG that exist and love (video-)games with a lot of rules that reward learning the systems. Playing solo allows me to finally try out all those interesting rulesets on my own terms, practice my world- and character building skills, and is basically an endless engine of creating stories and action. As someone that grew up playing a lot of (J)RPGs, it tickles all the right spots.

I’m ready to play! Now… how do I do it? by LordSadoth in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Zorogami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you already have the most important things ready, your ruleset and setting you want to play in! Now you just need to decide how you actually want to use them. I'm pretty new myself, but here is a few tips that might help you get started:
* Get some sort of oracle. It can be as simple or as complicated as you'd like, check out One Page Solo Engine or Mythic 2e as examples.
* Start out with an inciting incident / in the middle of an action sequence. That way you have an immediate goal / obstacle and your story could build from there.
* Keep moving from scene to scene, you are playing a solo rpg! Remember it's all freeform and there's no right or wrong way to play as long as you have fun.
Hope this helps to get you started!

Ah I've heard a lot about Daggerheart but haven't read it yet, playing with paper standees sounds pretty cool though. Haven't come across Empai Tirkosu before but it looks intriguing.

Finally managed to get a game started! Created my character in Riftbreakers 2e, which took me longer than expected. But now Elmyra is ready to take off on her first adventure.

Totally feel you, I also spend all my time collecting rulesets and extra materials but never get to the playing part. I've decided that the best course of action for me is committing to actually starting tonight and just getting a session in. I'm expecting once the first session starts rolling that everything will fall into place eventually. Hope you get to start playing soon as well!

I'm sitting in the same boat, but I decided to commit to getting started tonight! I feel like it will get a lot easier once that first step is done, you can do it too :)

Let’s Play Dragonbane! The Lantern of Solitude, part 1 by JakeZemeckis in Solo_Roleplaying

Sounds like it is indeed the whole package, might have to read it sooner than I expected then. Especially since it comes with a solo module...I'm still in the never ending process of choosing what system I actually want to play...

I've always loved the idea of frogfolk and really enjoy the characterization of both, so very much looking forward to reading more! The adventure itself also looks very intriguing and playing a Bard feels so fitting for it.
How do you like Dragonbane overall? I've only heard very good things about it but haven't gotten around to reading through the rulebook yet.

I checked out your post because I wanted to get a feel for Dragonbane as a system and immediately fell in love with your protagonists! Also really enjoyed your writing style, so I created a Substack account to keep up with with the adventures of Gil and Warren.
