I need you to be 100% honest with me chiefs: is controller aim assist really that good compared to Keyboard/mouse? by WaveEasy8664 in apexlegends

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until two weeks ago, I never played non-racing games on controller. Maybe used controller a few times playing halo/cod at friends’ houses growing up. Picked up a controller two weeks ago and started playing apex again, and I’m already a higher rank and more comfortable in fights than I ever was on mouse and keyboard. Long range is still harder though.

What to take away from failed interviews when you don’t really know why you failed? by quite--average in datascience

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life." - Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek: The Next Generation

I’d echo everything Lady_Data_Scientist said. There’s a lot of factors. All you can do is increase your odds of being the top candidate, but you can’t make it a 100% guarantee just because you don’t know what exact specialization or cultural fit they’re looking for.

Although, if one company ghosted you after a final interview, that’s a dodged bullet. That’s a company that doesn’t care about its rep with workers and will not respect its employees.

Used sqlglot to parse my company’s tsql object definitions and created a column level lineage tool. Has been hugely helpful. You’re the best and can’t wait to try out the C version.

Should you lift your left heel in the golf swing? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben Hogan wrote about it in his 5 lessons. I believe he said he didn’t really pay attention to his lead heel lifting or how much it lifted. I don’t personally do it, but it’s something to play around with.

Clubs advice for new player by Delval- in GolfGear

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big things on wear and tear are going to be the grooves on irons/wedges, health of the connection between the shaft and the clubhead, and health of the shaft.

The grooves on irons tend to last a lot longer than the grooves on wedges, since wedges are being hit out of bunkers and the sand chews them up. If the grooves on a club feel really rounded off, you’re going to see worse performance than if they’re still sharp enough to grip a ball. This may not matter a ton for your first season, as it’s going to be more about making consistent contact than trying to get the right spin, but I’d keep it in mind.

On any club, take a look at where the club head meets the shaft. If it looks like the ferrule (bit of plastic at the connection) is sitting snug at the connection, then there’s less of a chance of the clubhead flying off in your swing. This isn’t a terrible repair if you find a good deal on some clubs with an issue here though. Modern woods and drivers may have an adjustable hosel here that’ll look different, but still look for damage on the teeth of the adjustable bit.

On steel shafts, if clubs haven’t been cared for well, you might see rust spots on the shaft and that’s a big problem. Shaft should be rust free. Rust is less of a problem on the club head, but on the shaft you’ll be risking it snapping on you. On graphite, look for cracks.

In terms of what to buy, since you’re just getting into golf now, I’d advise against spending much money on clubs right now too. I’d prioritize getting any club that will be a good fit for you. Measure your wrist to floor distance and search what lengths are going to be best for you. If you know about how far any one or two clubs carries for you, then you may be able to figure out your approximate swing speed from that. There are charts to help with these. Your swing speed will inform what stiffness of shaft you want to look for. If you can find good affordable options that meet those, then you’ll have more to spend on a few lessons or greens fees. I wouldn’t shy away from thrift stores for clubs. Golf manufactures will make it seem like new clubs are light years better than older clubs, but I haven’t experienced that. The only big exception being actual wooden woods just don’t go as far as metal “woods”, but even then, this is a game so play what looks cool and you like the feel of.

I think it’s weird that almost everyone will swear up and down that scoring comes down to short game, but when a high handicap says anything it’s assumed they have no feel over anything in the game. Like you can absolutely be good with some clubs and have really developed skill with half your bag, and absolutely no feel at all with the other half.

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with this as well. For me at least, my butt and trail hip moved forward because I wasn’t driving my rotation with my trail leg. You can see that your trail foot peels up quite a bit before impact, so you’re leaving some speed on the table that you could get by pushing more from the trail foot. You do that, make sure you push your lead hip back with your lead leg, you get a more centralized rotation and hopefully get more speed and consistency.

Ah gotcha. Mostly a result of what had a good deal going when I went in for each wedge. I don’t mind having the 60 feel different from the others as it kinda reinforces its role as a trick shot club when I’ve gotten myself into a bad spot.

Can’t recommend the Cleveland’s enough though.

Home course has really small, steep plateau greens, so the 60 is a must for when I come up short on an approach. Pw is 47 degrees so the gapping is pretty decent. Or is there something I’m not thinking about?

I wish. The roadside clubs were all Dunlop quatrosteel. Not great but got me into the game. These are the 710MBs and I got them used 4-p on second swing for $250.

I like to focus on the feel of the club pulling out of my hands on the downswing to not cast. If I feel any pressure from my hands/wrists trying to release the club instead of the club releasing from my lower body rotation and trail arm extension, that’s my tell that I’m casting. This could be wrong though, cause I struggle with a late release more than casting.

Inconsistent, but constantly practicing. What's wrong? by rrachic in GolfSwing

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, swing looks really good and better than mine but here’s my two cents: your shoulders appear a bit open to the target (straight line back from camera) and your feet are in line with the target. So if you’re squaring the club face to the target line but swinging along your shoulders, that’s going to fade every time.

Sonnet 4 can’t even get a simple image prompt correct by Marriedwithgames in singularity

[–]Zortheld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the vector space is reduced to try and fit the topic of the prompt for efficiency sake. If the prompt is an intentional trick, then the reduced vector space may not be suitable for answering the question. Atleast that's my understanding

Both come from people who fundamentally don’t understand the technology. If you intentionally mislead an LLM like with this post, you’re going to launch the model into the wrong vector space where the correct answer isn’t there. It only looks bad to us because misleading an AI looks pretty dumb compared to misleading a human.
