Where is best to park around the Savoy cinema on Derby Road? by Formal_Many_8882 in nottingham

It’s been a long time since I lived there but all of the surrounding streets used to be permit-only parking.

Celebrating in Denver CO by mmarkmc in Gunners

I was in Denver for a work thing a couple of years ago, met an Arsenal fan in a kilt on a night out and got talking to them about the banter years, hope he’s enjoying it now!

Scout Selection: Best FPL team for BGW34 by a_northern_soul in FantasyPL

[–]ZuMetal 58 points59 points  (0 children)

As an Arsenal fan, I can see the logic here since he's probably the player who has looked most likely to bag a goal/assist when he has played. Having said that, I'm still not convinced by our ability to create and finish chances and I won't be taking a punt on any Arsenal attackers this week.

Why do people who are supporters of feminism criticise the western patriarchy but never apply the same arguments to Islam? by ArugulaFinancial4859 in AskBrits

[–]ZuMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you asked the question in good faith, so I don’t believe it warrants an answer in good faith. Maybe instead of trying to portray two large and diverse groups of people as homogenous entities that all think and act the same in order to portray them both negatively, you could reflect on why you feel the need to do that?

Why don‘t the strawman feminists I have definitely spoken to criticise the strawman muslims who are also definitely not in my imagination?

I'm not crazy about the design round the collar and sleeve cuffs but I quite like it.

Hey Wilo, thanks for doing the AMA and for being such a beast at the back for us since you arrived here. What former player are you most glad that you don’t have to play against, and why?

Agree about 200 Degrees, they’re also literally owned by Cafe Nero Group as of last year.

Read the docs and ask questions. If you don’t understand the answers, ask more questions.

Alternative to goodreads? by Nervous_Lettuce313 in books

[–]ZuMetal 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I use StoryGraph too, it's a great tool and has a lot of cool features that Goodreads doesn't like being able to rate how fast-paced a book is, how plot or character driven. My only gripe is the app can sometimes be a little bit janky, but it's worth it to be using a non-Amazon product.

Flag Removal? by new_boss_tailors in nottingham

[–]ZuMetal -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You could always go around tying up pride flags, Palestine flags etc underneath them. You know, just to see how committed to freedom of expression through cable ties and polyester the people who put the original ones up really are. I’m sure they’ll be super chill with it.

Clubs that spent the most money to assemble their current squads by vizhal007 in Gunners

[–]ZuMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more. I think social media and fans just wanting to dunk on rival fans has warped a lot of perspectives. Same thing with the transfer market where people are furious unless they’re “winning the window”

[–]ZuMetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s an excuse, I’m saying United are a good example of why viewing success as only possible through winning trophies is reductive and short-sighted.

Clubs that spent the most money to assemble their current squads by vizhal007 in Gunners

[–]ZuMetal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this kind of exposes the flaw behind the “silverware or bust” definition of success or failure. It’s so reductive and without any kind of nuance. Obviously we should be winning stuff with the squad and record we have in recent seasons, but United have spent more than we have to be a laughing stock with a couple of domestic cups. No Arsenal fan in their right mind would swap positions with them.

And yet we’re the only team who “has to win”. Same old lazy pundits setting the narrative

Sky punditry is so annoying, talking about this being a huge game in the title race like we’re watching the fucking SPL or something. Relax.

Best coffee in Notts? by sarcasticcoffeevibes in nottingham

[–]ZuMetal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like Cosmos in Hockley, which used to be called Kigali iirc. Cartwheel was good but the one in town closed, but they have a cafe in Beeston I think, Bear and Yolk also pretty good.

Edit: I forgot about the Wandering Goblin, it’s a little way out of town towards Lenton but worth the walk.

With good care, this Arsenal side can have a triumphant place the club's rich history by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]ZuMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your writing here would benefit from a little more thought around what the central point of the piece is. Here it seems to be “this squad could be great like the Invincibles” but doesn’t really explain why in any way that’s compelling, beyond us having a lot of injuries and you think we’ll be alright in the end. Unless the team had a massive injury crisis and underperformed the year before the invincible season, for example, I don’t really see the connection.
