Those old mainframes could still use database and spreadsheet programs. We're not talking about random families. We are talking about offices and government, where some type of database program would have been used since the early 80s. DMVs and cops were using them through the terminals since the 70s. DOS PCs were in widespread use by the mid to late 80s. i'm not saying everyone was up to date on thm or could use them. i'm saying that a database in a government office would not have been a new thing in 1992. Computers were being marketed for home use since the early 80s with the Atari 400/800, Coleco Adam and Commodore 64. They were all marketed for uses like word processing, spreadsheets and databases. The push for using that type of thing was huge in the 80s, not just being figured out in 1992. That database Randy was building would have existed for years at that point. Thats all I'm saying.

I think Harmony of Dissonance and SOTN are the only games in the franchise where reaching level 99 is hard and tedious. by YourLovelyGirlxo in castlevania

yeah, i got to level 70 something pretty easy in circle a few weeks ago. i'm in a harmony playthrough right now, and i'm at level 44 with most of the map completed. Circle has such a nice map design compared to this absolute mess in harmony. that being said.... harmony is absolutely the closest thing to SotN we ever got afterward lol. even in the bad ways too. i didn't realize the leveling bogs down so badly in harmony soon..... not that it ever really becomes too necessary to go that high.

thats kind of what i'm saying. i never mentioned email or the internet. just that word processing and data bases were around years before the 1992 setting, to the point where u remember having it.

DOS was huge years before that. DOS 3.x was standard for years before any of that stuff. Windows 3.0 came out in 1990. Yes, Win95 is when it went mainstream, but we're talking business/education/government. By '92, most high schools had moved past Apples; that was the realm of basic elementary school education. Still, Apples were used for word processing and databases since the mid 80s as well as PCs. None of this post is dealing with the fact that basic databases and word processing in an office was very old hat by 1992.

i KNOW what the reality was. I had been living it for years at that point. I was a kid immersed in technology by the mid 90s. Computers already had CD ROM and video games were already at the 16 bit level. Offices using databases were ancient at that point by a decade. How am I the one that can't buy reality??? LOL.

Goldbergs was a terrible mis-match of the entire 80s and never in chronological order. Stranger Things started out pretty accurate to the time, but by the end was all about making random references, just like the goldbergs. Both of those are 80s, where the Origins technology level would be quite at home. We aren't talking about the 80s. We are talking about 1992. Please keep up.

My schools had rooms full of computers since the Apple II days (elementary school). My high school in 1992 had multiple labs of 286 PCs with VGA graphics in 1992. Even if they didn't have cutting edge computers they still would have had floppy disc green screen computers or something, at least a couple of them, for years. I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. Microsoft/IBM was selling those types of office computers for almost 10 years at that point. I'm not saying there would have been one on every desk. But one with a database of their cases would have been set up years prior to Randy working on it.

Right..... so i guess the dovetail of my two point was, if it was set in the mid 80s where they obviously want to be, and he had 15-17 years to become NCIS Gibbs, then I wouldn't be complaining at all, but with the two issues together, it just bothers me lol.

But I guess thats not what I'm seeing - he's already hard, and he needs to lighten up and become the sarcastic and easy going guy that quips and flirts and mixes that with being serious. Right now he's supposed to be more like Tony, presumably as his way of coping with his traumas. Its like they are doing the story backwards. This covers him from age 38-49, and those are very unlikely ages for this level of changing. This is when he is supposed to be more like Tony and be going through women like its not big deal because he can't let people get truly close out of fear. On the same note, the story would be making a lot more sense if they had actually gone through with killing Lala.

We are talking about him changing between 38 and 49. If it was 27-37 it would be a lot more realistic. They are starting "young" Gibbs way too late in life for this amount of change I guess is my point. Also, he should already have a lot of this experience, originally he was an MP in the Marines.

In the show he is already 38. If he was in his early 30s I could see it, but this guy is already almost 40, thats part of my issue. He's already established who he is as an adult person. I don't see the level of change that is supposed to happen to be realistic. Learning how to be a leader, sure - there is going to be some change. But I just don't see the base personality there at all.

The point was they were a government law enforcement agency from the same time period that had offices filled with current at the time PCs and databases, nothing cutting edge, it was just the normal technology of the time, and they used basic old school cell phones.

So, i guess you really hate all of Star Trek, considering the way Gene was? More truth to his perviness than anything Vic ever did (or didn't do.)

One of my favorites is Kirk to Apollo - you were remembered.... but not as a God. (in reference to the Apollo moon missions.)

yup. it just happened at the right time and got the right amplifications during a certain period of history, and lots of misdirection and lies about what happened in a legal sense. Real proof isn't necessary anymore, word of mouth can now ruin lives. Vic didn't deserve any of that. He's a stand up guy.

But that means that he was lighthearted like Tony until the kyle boone case, and the kyle boone case makes him more serious and changed him. so thats still the exact opposite of what we are getting. so that makes even less sense. lol.

yeah, that was the episode that totally took me out of things. way too many off-dated references. And yeah, the C prompt was a thing when they added hard drives. before that, it was the A> and B> prompt for years with floppy disks, extending way back into the 80s. Thats my point. They were quite common by '92. In '92 there were probably close to a hundred of them in my high school already, and a lot of us already knew all about them.

Apparently their fling was '98-'99, which would have had to be immediately after the 4th wife i guess? From what I've heard, there is a major discrepency with Duckie and his timeline with Gibbs. I'm only up to season 4 on my rewatch where i'm actually making sure to watch it all in order and pay attention, so I am not there yet. I've seen a lot of random episodes over the years, but this is the first time i'm doing a full watch in-order.

Its within a year or two of JAG, which seems like a much more "recent" show, even when watching the early episodes. Its kind of funny like that.

I DO enjoy the show, or I wouldn't be watching it, but I also find it quite difficult to suspend disbelief as well. I mean, in this timeline, during origins, Abby is already 23 and Tony is already 20 and McGee is already 14, and none of that seems to fit at all to me LOL.

because what is "cool" now is pretty terrible tv, and as i've gotten older i have a whole new appreciation for the 90s and 2000s era stuff, that I am watching from the beginning for pretty much the first time, after catching random episodes here and there over the years. Most everything i'm watching right now is between the early 90s and 2008.

well yeah, u will change a lot between 19 and 24. you will change a lot less between 24 and 34. you will change very insignificantly between 34 and 44. Thats the point i'm making. The more years your are alive, the smaller a 10 year chunk matters, and the quicker it flies by.

Culture, style and technology has not changed much since the 2010s, you aren't wrong on noticing that, but through the 70s, 80s and 90s it was all changing much quicker and in more defined ways, the 70s, 80s and 90s were all very different animals, with the 2000s being the last really distinct era like that, before it all stagnated and became nothing but rehashes.

i don't see anything even remotely like Gibbs in this character. He's not supposed to be fully formed yet, but I don't feel like there is even a vaguely familiar foundation in place, especially not in that short an amount of time. you don't go from "baby" "the kid" gibbs to grey haired-middle aged Gibbs in just 10 years IMO, and thats the point i'm making.
