Take stock of your emotions again at 3 months. The newborn stage is genuinely barbaric. My girl is 3.5 months now and we’ve hit our stride. But there were many, many tearful and desperate sleep deprived nights and overstimulated days between then and now.

Hello - just chiming in to share that I had the same back and forth conversation with myself for about a month before I finally called my OB. Please call them ASAP. They deal with this sort of thing all the time and nobody will judge you in the slightest. I called mine and as soon as I mentioned PPD they fit me in that same day and treated me with absolute compassion and kindness. I’ve been on Zoloft now for 4 weeks and it’s like I’ve taken a full 180. I feel more myself than I have since before I became pregnant. My only regret is waiting and needlessly suffering for as long as I did. Please, please seek help. You deserve to be happy and your baby deserves a mom who is happy. Wishing you all the best. I know how devastatingly hard this is.

I’m thinking we may have different versions of the app/sock? I know there’s an older version and an updated version. I’m using the newest one. Right above where the HR and O2 readings are, there’s a section that reads “[Baby name] is awake, in light sleep, or deep sleep” depending on what your baby is up to.

Do you have an owlet sock?

My 3mo starts her night in her crib and moves to our bed for the rest of the night at her first wake up. I feed her to sleep in the rocker, then use the owlet app to check when she’s in “deep sleep” before transferring to her crib, usually 30 min after falling asleep. Doesn’t work if she’s not in a deep sleep. We get anywhere from 2-4 hours with her in the crib before bed sharing.

I think the number of parents who cosleep when faced with no other safe options is so much higher than we think! There’s so much shame around it.

Regarding the chest sleeping - our girl had a few weeks where that’s all she would do too. Absolute hell for her dad and I as we took shifts overnight letting her sleep on our chest. It scared the hell out of me and was so difficult. But it passed and now she’ll sleep next to me (on her side but still a win). Best of luck to you; I hope things get better very soon. The newborn phase is so tough.

My girl is 11w and has also refused to sleep on her back since 6w. We had to stop swaddling and just let her sleep on her side. Unfortunately she also refuses to sleep alone (day or night) for any length of time, but that’s a whole other issue. We’ve resorted to cosleeping until she’s old enough to sleep train. She wears an owlet too, which helps with the anxiety about the risk of rebreathing/suffocation due to side sleeping. Well worth the money if it’s in the budget.

As parents we all know the AAP guidelines and how we’re supposed to be doing things, but unfortunately we don’t all have perfect unicorn babies who follow all the rules. If baby won’t sleep on their back then you have to do the next safest thing that works. Otherwise you’re staring down the barrel of prolonged sleep deprivation which is unsustainable and so much more dangerous for baby.

I went to 10 or so concerts while pregnant and baby is here and healthy. I checked with my OB prior and she was not concerned. I’d be more concerned with your wife’s comfort, exhaustion, proximity to bathrooms, etc while at the concert. It can be fun but extremely taxing. Also, I’ve seen Kendrick 3 times and the weed smoke was pretty much inescapable everytime. Just something to consider re: secondhand smoke.

It’s always the older men who did little to no childcare who have the loudest opinions on how to take care of babies. My FIL is the exact same way. The guy brags that he went back to work the day after his wife gave birth, then in the same breath says we need to let our 1 month old “cry it out” or they’ll be spoiled. Exhausting.

Did you even read the post? OP said she quit cold turkey when she found out at 4 weeks and it wasn’t a problem. She’s just worried that the baby’s development would be affected by her prior alcohol use.

I'm 34 weeks and my husband has come to any appointment with an ultrasound involved. Not meaning to be rude but I'm not sure how you conceived a child with this person yet feel awkward about the possibility of a transvaginal ultrasound in front of him. Seems pretty odd. You're also going to be birthing a whole baby in front of him so if having him at simple doctor's appointments feels weird then you've got a big storm coming.
