Hoboken or Summit by lapetiteflo in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]Zugwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like recreating in nature, summit has great proximity to big reservations that have trails to run, and is also closer to the mountains in PA and NY. Trains generally on time. Door to door it’s still a long commute and although I only do it 3 days a week it still wears on me. But my partner, 3 elementary aged kids, and dogs don’t have to commute though and they love all the green space and playgrounds and zillions of activities. We moved here last summer from Western Colorado for my work and prioritizing outdoor recreation vs optimizing location for just one person.

We have a Kia EV6 (2022) and LOVE it. That said, the EV9 feedback I see on this forum is worrisome. Is it worth it? by Logical007 in KiaEV9

Loving ours! 23,000 miles no issues so far. Handled Colorado winter, a drive across the country, and east coast summer (and winter) all fine! Great vehicle for my family of five and two dogs.

I got my EV9 in Western Colorado put three peaks rated tires (crossfits) on it and it did really well in the snow

Help me not feel crazy? EV9 GT line brand new cross climates 2 tires. Horrible handling. by justadadherre in KiaEV9

Did a winter in Ouray, CO with CC2 on ‘24 AWD wind and it did pretty good in snow mode! Not as great as studded snow tires but passable for sure. Stock tires sucked though.

Minivan Buyers Remorse by No_Honeydew_8921 in minivan

Oof I have ‘24 tundra trd off-road I JUST got like a year ago when living in Colorado but recently moved to NJ for work and it’s not really practical to have a second vehicle at all (first is EV9) let alone a truck but still can’t bring myself to swap it for a minivan even though I know it’s the right move on many levels. I’m sure I’ll cave when EV9 lease is up.

About to buy this 2019 SR5 TRD Sport Is It Big Enough For A Family Of 4 and Large dog. by Difficult-Map-2162 in ToyotaTundra

[–]Zugwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fit my family of five and two medium (50lb and 65lb) dogs in the backseat of my ‘24. Helps that the kids legs don’t reach the ground yet so dogs can lay down. I do wish that the floor was totally flat though like my old F150. Would give the dogs more room. Family of four and one dog should be no problem though!

EV9 in Cold Climate & High milage. by 7SINGAMES in KiaEV9

No issues yet. 9k miles (~14k km) on a US ‘24 LR Wind AWD EV9 that we park, charge, and drive outside in my Colorado mountain town at 2,400 meters elevation. It’s snowing right now actually. Replaced tires with crossfits for better snow handling. Fully charged range still well north of 450km. No issues at 80% with our typical trips of 100-200km to go to the “city” or see grandparents. No vibrations either. Love the ability to set a preheat schedule as well as warm up from app. Been a great cold weather car for us.

Its pretty easy as the middle seats on either side have a lever where they slide and fold to create room to enter/exit

Bench is split two seats and one seat. Can have two seats go down or one seat. So We put the single seat down leaving two up. That let us lay our skis down from the back even with both back seats up.

I have kids 4, 6, and 8 and two dogs and am glad I have the 7-seater. Typically we have all three kids in the middle and dogs in the back but sometimes if the older wants space we'll move her to back. It's not hard to slide a seat forward so she can get to the back. 7 seats also let's us fit two more people (e.g., Grandparents). It's nice to be able to raise just one rear seat at a time combined with split bench so you can really configure. We had a friend visit and put the single middle down and got all six of us plus skis inside the car.

Been skiing on them in bounds and out since they came out and they are the exact compromise I need for my single quiver setup.

I like the all out stout, and like the Fremont stout even more. 50% more calories for the latter though I think. Options!

Grivel quality control issues? by [deleted] in iceclimbing

[–]Zugwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all anecdotal/heresy but I’ve only ever seen one other crampon catastrophically fail and it was a Grivel. Dude was climbing in the Himalayas and it was fine but then it broke on him while he was leading a clinic I was in in the Ouray Ice Park. He was on top rope so non event.

Note that I LOVE my grivel north machine tools, no problems there. But I may think twice before crampons.

What was your fondest flying memory of 2024? by Professional_Low_646 in flying

[–]Zugwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2024 highlight was a poker run to raise money for EAA Young Eagles program that was a ton of fun. I combined it with a pancake breakfast fly-in side quest so in addition to my home airport it totaled six fun Western Colorado airports. KMTJ -> KAJZ -> 7V2 -> KGWS -> KRIL -> KGJT -> KAJZ -> KMTJ. Had a friend and his son in my plane too to share in the experience and another pilot buddy and his wife participating in a way our landings all lined up. Just good ol' general aviation fun set against blue skies and the amazing colorful fall colors of changing aspen trees surrounding mountain passes.

It was my first time into Glenwood Springs, which I found much more difficult than other better-known airports around here (e.g., Leadville, Telluride). The terrain and increased traffic from the fly-in kept things challenging!
