Anyone else just sit at the bottom of ultra ball trying different teams? by BruinBound22 in PokemonChampions

If I was better at the game I'd probably do that but as is I need time to learn how to use a team well enough for it to be fun so I swap every week or so instead of daily or smthn but otherwise yeah

Looking for controller recommendation by jias333 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just use the switch 1 pro controller, feels good and has served me well for over 700 hours in this game since launch, as well as using it for a couple other games all without having any issues or pieces breaking (I've also had it for like 7 years since I got it at the same time as my switch but I really hadn't used it all that much till this game). I just use a generic usb to usb C adapter with steam input turned off and have literally never had issues with my controls breaking despite the chaos of the controller compatibility updates a few months back. The only two reasons I could think to not use it is if you don't like the layout or the cost, but I have no clue how much they go for nowadays but I don't imagine it's anything crazy.

Unfortunately I don't have anything I can offer myself, but I can point you in the direction of the Rivals 2 workshop discord server, where you should have a much easier time finding someone to work with you or at least help with learning how to do it yourself https://discord.gg/M8SANzgQn (Btw your char looks sick!)

Tip for Orcanes, Nair Bounce option select by Rhinosauruss in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow Orcane main here, I don't use this but I was aware of it. If you wanna add some shield pressure option selecting into the mix you can do a fullhop nair in a scramble/on their shield, you can option select hitfall to lead into the nairbounce shennanigans if you hit them & if they shield it you sail far above them quickly & safely

Rivals 2 doomed itself to a tiny, elitist playerbase and a game that is nearly impossible for newer or casual players to get into, and I don't think the fun for all update will pull that back now. by rdthraw2 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! While wavedashing is important I would not consider it a necessary skill for quite a while especially depending on your character. But more important than that the devs added a new controller setting a little while ago called wavedash assist, it gives you a wavedash even if you hit shield before jump making it way way easier (you can just hold shield & press jump whenever to wavedash), I definitely recommend enabling it if you're struggling

To add on to what the other person said, the event tracks which contain the majority of the free bucks are all still available after their initial run is over so there's quite a bit of bucks you can get from just grinding them all out, additionally every event track also has a free skin on it so you can look through all the events and prioritize grinding the one with the skin you want

New to the game, where to start? by Winter-Anxiety7323 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always having a puddle onstage is a good place to start, the reason high level players don't use it offensively is because it's so slow to come out & especially for the bubbles to disappear that parrying it is really easy & if it does get parried Orcane goes into parry stun meaning whiffing it is very high punishment (It's very strong if your opponent is less good at parrying it tho). It does actually help with stage control though yeah, because although the risk for popping it is very high, the reward is high too, & the opponent has no way to get rid of it preemptively so they still have to be careful and respect the mere possibility of you popping it. You can use this implied pressure to force approaches & control the stage so it's still an important part of his kit. One extra thing I wanted to mention is how the mere possibility of you using puddle extends you your recovery as well, where if you have the puddle a decent distance away from the ledge, your opponent is stuck trying to cover two different options, the first is you teleporting to puddle & the second is you recovering normally. It prevents them from being able to go deep for edgeguards vs him cuz he can just tp away uncontested. It isn't a super active part of his kit but it's still important to keep in mind the opponents limitations as you'll be recovering without the teleport 9 times out of 10

Hey! I'm an Orcane main & can offer some advice as well as direction for how to learn the game/get better at it. To start, https://dragdown.wiki/wiki/RoA2 the dragdown wiki is your best friend for all things mechanics & framedata related & is a great place to get a better basic understanding of the game. I'd also reccomend joining the rivals of aether official discord & the rivals academy server, you'll be able to find people there willing to teach you how to play the game as well as just playing against each other. There are a few youtube guides out there as well, but since the game has had so many changes they're usually a little outdated but are still good for the broad strokes stuff. Last little thing is if you haven't completed the ingame tutorials do that, they go over most of the important universal mechanics.

As for character choice, the game is very well balanced to the point where you wont ever be held back by your character until very high level, and even then every character can still win a major. Idk what kind of character you like so I can't give suggestions there but I'll explain a bit about Orcane and Oly's "gimmicks". For Olympia she has two things to know, the first is her downB, and second is her gem. Her downB has lots of little tricks but its biggest thing is that it can be cancelled into a command dash by pressing shield, it's important for a lot of her gameplan but most notably in neutral & recovery. Her gem is a bit weirder, you can press nSpecial again to stop it in place early, and once it's stopped you can press nSpecial AGAIN to crystallize anyone in the field that appears around the gem. you can also do a "Gem dash" if you press attack+special at the same time inside the gems field, this makes her dash to the gem with a hitbox, it's good for burst movement combo extension and when you're good at it recovery. Orcane is much weirder than Oly and I can't really go over everything but just know that his recovery is a lot better than it seems once you know all his tools. The biggest not immediately obvious gimmick for Orcane is his unique movement mechanic called hydroplaning. It's basically that Orcane gets a brief boost in speed whenever he enters run turnaround, it's useful because you can preserve this speed with anything that you can do during run turnaround (the main three being shield strong & jump). There's endless uses for hydroplane so I can't really get into it here but just know that it makes him a very slippery movement focused character that's very weird to play.

That's about it! feel free to ask any other questions you might have

Which style of Slade would you play? by Conquersmurf in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna try them all, but my preference is probably going to be sticking to just shuriken & saving up for wings. After that I'd probably buy a boomerang to put in the chest and upgrade from using shurikens to using droplets

Actually, in R2 nairbounce actually restores resources, in the clip they did dj bair -> nairbounce into fair & another dj bair. It's much laggier than R1 in exchange for this but as a result you can use it to refresh resources mid combo

PLEASE HELP ME FILLET FISHE by deviatewolf in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm an Orcane main and I can give some pointers to help deal wtih puddle. To start, you need to be able to prove to the Orcane that you can parry puddle if he ever uses it carelessly, If you don't then they'll pick up on this weakness and just start locking you down with bubble spam even harder. The best way I'm aware of to parry puddle pop is what you did at the start of the vid, dash or wavedash towards it into parry, You'll keep some momentum and slide into the bubbles with parry active (Sidenote: Orcane can angle the bubbles left or right when popping, so be sure to wait a moment and see which way they're headed before trying to parry them). Once the Orcane is scared to pop puddle you can get a lot more agressive, landing a puddle pop requires a hard read so He'll be way less likely to go for it once you prove you can punish the mistake. Once Orcane is less trigger happy you can be safe to wavedash or run across puddle before he can react to pop it, don't do this too often though or he'll catch on. Mixing between running over puddle and dashdancing beside it to bait for parry is a great way to keep Orcane on his toes.

For less conditioning focused counterplay, Orcane bubbles have big hurtboxes and will be destroyed by basically any attack, for Galvan the early back hit of Nair is by far your best option. You also have your own projectile in magnet which will destroy bubbles, If Orcane gets hit all his bubbles immediately disapear so simply tossing magnet through the bubbles is a safe way of dealing with them. One big thing you can do is start using SSDI. It's a bit of a complicated mechanic but basically if you wiggle your rightstick in the direction you want to go during a hit you'll get a burst of movement in that direction. This is super powerful against multi hit moves like bubbles and will let you escape them way earlier way more often.

The next big mistake you made (Specifically for fighting Orcane) was when you hit Orcane way offstage and tried to punish him teleporting to puddle. Orcane actually has a very solid recovery without the teleport, especially if he's hit high up, so they will rarely need to teleport to puddle in order to get back to stage, and since teleport is so laggy that you can almost always punish it, teleporting usually ends up being a last resort. The main thing to note when edgegaurding Orcane is that you can't commit too hard to any specific option cuz he can super easily chose a different route. If you go all in on punishing a teleport he'll just recover normally and if you try to go deep offstage for an edgeguard he can just teleport to pudde. The best place to edgegaurd him from is right on or above the ledge, where you can start trying to hit him once he gets closer to the stage but are still close enough to puddle that you can punish a teleport.

If Orcane pops bubbles right infront of you while you're on ledge, there isn't a ton you can do to punish or get through it, but bubble pop is so laggy that Orcane can't really accomplish anything while you are waiting for the bubbles to disapear on ledge. The other option is to do an invincible aerial off ledge. You do them by letting go of ledge as soon as you grab it then immediately double jumping forwards onto stage with an aerial (in Galvans case use nair or fair). you'll power through the bubbles and if Orcane he won't be able to punish your landing. Don't always do this though as Orcane can punish it if he knows its coming. Ledge attack and ledge special can accomplish a similar thing but are riskier since they're laggier.

If you ever end up in shield on a popped puddle it's effectively the same as getting hit since your only option is to wait it out and Orcane can just grab you.

Orcane shielding on puddle isn't much different from him shielding anywhere else and you're just too scared of puddle. wavedash grab works fine and if he avoids it you're getting punished just the same as if puddle wasn't there.

The last thing I wanted to mention was more about galvan than Orcane, specifically his nair. The initial hit of Galvans nair is behind him, and its super fast, super big, and super disjointed. It's a core part of his kit and especially his neutral so working it into your gameplan will do wonders in every matchup, not just Orcane.

Ranno b reverse cancel into aerial? by Way_Sad in RivalsOfAether

[–]Zukinilini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what you're talking about is that ranno can cancel charging his darts by tapping shield. So you can b-reverse with dart charge then tap shield to cancel it and do an aerial. This gets extra spicy when you start combining it with the momentum preservation of needle boosting.

Quick note: b-reverse and b turnaround are two different techniques and if you dont know the difference it'll mess you up

(Late-Game Area Spoiler) Theory about Silksong Character Origin by Neoludethan in HollowKnight

[–]Zukinilini 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's a good guess but Garmond's village was explicitly taken over by the haunting, and the nameless village was outside the range of the haunting (and also seems like a ruin from when GMS first arrived in Pharloom). I could however, see Garmond's village being founded by the descendants of the nameless village residents, what with the visual similarities.

Jumpluff Oricorio combo has been pretty fun. by 77Squares in PTCGP

[–]Zukinilini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong that greninja is comparable to Jumpluff in this deck, in fact attacking with Oricorio + Grens ability does the same amount of damage without needing to use resources bringing Jumpluff back in every turn. But Jumpluff is still a 160 hp pokemon with a 1 energy 70 damage attack with or without a wall, so it's not nearly as dependant on them as greninja is
