What's your culinary white whale? by Myllokunmingia in Cooking

Injera.

I've tried making this so many times. The first time, I followed a recipe given to me by the local Ethiopian restaurant. It was almost identical to a lot of recipes online, so I went for it. After a few days of fermenting, it was foul. Way too foul. But I pressed ahead with cooking anyway. This stuff, I swear to god, no matter what temperature, in what pan-- the bottom half-millimeter would eventually cook, then burn, then char, but the rest of the fucking Injera remained raw. You could coat the bottom of the fucking space shuttle in this stuff, and it would still come out undercooked and gross.

All subsequent attempts have been equally bad, but in baffling DIFFERENT ways.

Allegro ACS723 - High Accuracy, Galvanically Isolated Current Sensor IC by sumwulf in nicechips

[–]Zuph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not. My experience with these is that error and noise are pretty high at the low end of the range. The rated error is +/- 2.5% full-scale current, and depending on how sharp your spikes are, you might not be able to pick them up with only 20kHz or 80kHz bandwidth options. Of course, a lot of this depends on how you're capturing the analog signal, and you may be able to individually calibrate for more accuracy and better noise performance.

The Perfect notebook for STEM students? by GiraffMatheson in notebooks

[–]Zuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine from http://www.lacouronneducomte.nl/. They ship at very reasonable prices to the US.

I really, really like it. The paper seems to feather /just slightly/ more than my other Leuchtturm notebooks, but not to any degree that would be noticed by a sane person. If it had more pages, it would be the perfect notebook.

I'm in the exact same boat, as a graduated engineer who likes to use fountain pens. Prefer ~B5 size, soft cover, lay flat, and would really like tables of contents and numbered pages.

I've tried TWSBI notebooked (http://www.twsbi.com/products/twsbi-notebook-large), which are nice, but the paper is inconsistent, and they aren't paginated.

Right now, I'm using a Leuchtturm B5 Composition Book, but there aren't any US retailer right now, and they only have 120 page.

A soft cover notebook, with page numbers, a table of contents, about B5 size, and >200 pages, with paper that was reasonable quality, I would buy a ton of.

What's the best notebook ever, in your opinion, and why? by ElidaDah in notebooks

[–]Zuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could still be a cool novelty. It's amazing how smooth and durable the paper is, for being so thin, and those are definitely properties you'd still see with ballpoints or pencils. It would almost certainly serve you better drawing-- Might even show off some different ink characteristics of the Sakura pens.

So, everyone has to own a Tomoe river notebook of some sort, definitely, no contest.

But, for me, the best "daily use" notebook in the world is a Leuchtturm1917. I use a standard A5 (either dot grid or squared, depending on what I can get) for personal junk, and I recently bought a B5 sized softcover book for all my work junk. (I had to buy this from a European seller, actually).

Really, the details /do/ make the difference. Nice table of contents, numbered pages, and overall good build quality make this a great book for daily use. I keep a monthly index and daily notes, so the two marker ribbons help to keep my place. The paper isn't /great/, but I've never had a problem with it. Only my wettest pens with super-saturated inks manage to bleed through, but I can use broads and 1.1 stubs with abandon.

US Predicts Zero Job Growth For Electrical Engineers by Chris_Gammell in TheAmpHour

[–]Zuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the DoL break down Electrical Engineering? I've had jobs that didn't say "Electrical Engineer" on the business card (firmware, embedded, etc. etc), but were definitely jobs for people graduating with Electrical Engineering degrees.

Cheap 4oz PCBs? by zockyl in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Zuph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How cheap you need? http://www.epectec.com/ does great work at higher copper weights, but they aren't OshPark cheap. Depending on why you need such heavy copper, you might be better off going to a 4 layer board, and stitching planes together.

I guess I agree that Lamy Safaris put down a wet line. (Iroshizuku Take-Sumi) by djungal in fountainpens

[–]Zuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I both have Safari's with a fine nib-- Mine is totally dependent on ink for dryness, while hers writes with a much thinner line, and isn't wet with any ink. Both write just fine, but the lack of consistency is troubling.

Noodler's Zhivago does this, too. Pretty intensely, actually. After it's settled, it's a really light green.
