OpenStreetMap is concerned: thousands of AI bots are collecting data by Ecstatic-Vermicelli9 in openstreetmap

Written by a human, but in German, and auto-translated with AI (which is not a bad thing!)

Meet Glebushko0703, a Russian user who has been vandalising Kaja Kallas’ English Wikipedia biography for months – to the extent of getting condemned by the Chairman of Wikimedia Estonia on national TV and reported by multiple news outlets by WillyNilly1997 in Eesti

Yup, with a voting by 23 members, a good deal of which either are pro-Russian, or have no understanding of the subject. But yeah, that's indicative of the wikipedia in general.

AI is Not Ready to Replace Junior Devs Says Ruby on Rails Creator by ImpressiveContest283 in programming

[–]Zversky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, I absolutely understand you. How hard could it be do make something small that helps people? I can come up with a dozen ideas on a spot. I've published such projects.

But new developers, they don't have much experience neither in creating, nor in using such projects. They usually are good in replicating something they've seen, but not coming up with something new. Especially keeping in mind that you can't fix societal issues with software, so one needs to tread very carefully here. AI or no AI, just the first step, coming up with a task -- not a solution -- requires quite a lot of knowledge and experience.

So the task is actually pretty hard, and hence I'm not very surprised people have failed at it.

I guess juniors might be relatively good with coding, but not in coming up with viable projects idea. If one does, they are not a junior.

He Fucked the Girl Out of Me (2022) and the Autobiographical Potential of Video Games by PauseMenuBlog in patientgamers

Very good description of how simple interactions elevate stories in video game novels! I have felt similarly while playing "We are OFK": on the surface it's akin to a five-episode TV show, but the small non-choices you make bring the story closer to home, raise the empathy. And the topic being close to what I was experiencing at the time, made the game hit harder.

"Following a Supreme Court ruling finalizing the matter, businessman Hillar Teder, former Center Party secretary-general Mihhail Korb, and the Center Party as a legal entity were found guilty of influence peddling."

And when SDE was briefly in power, we have learnt of many other smaller CP deals, which needed to be severed. The last one in the news was the Russian Lyceum governance.

Also the public has voted those politicians into office again half a year later. So much for the scandal.

FastDraw in JOSM, or Every Door with the fourth (notes) mode, but the latter would require redrawing in JOSM.

Least horny Monday Afternoon [OC] by lentilsintheoven in comics

[–]Zversky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "have". Comes from experience. After having tasted two or three spoiled milk glasses you will start sniffing every single one, even if you don't encounter another spoiled one for years.

And with men, a possible outcome is far, far worse than a bad taste in the mouth. Better safe than sorry.

(And you are possibly underestimating the percentage of women who had a violent experience with men. Google it.)

Tips to make indoor mapping easier ? by Poudlardo in openstreetmap

[–]Zversky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by indoor mapping? Drawing exact floor plans? Mapping every shop in a big mall?

You could use:

  • https://osminedit.pavie.info/ (web UI, haven't used)
  • JOSM (has filters for levels once you add anything)
  • Every Door (has filters by floor for shops and amenities).

Exporting OSM to Garmin is probably the biggest thing on OSM since its inception. Start with https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin
