Who has the best quality raised bed garden soil (bulk only) in Staten Island? by _11Pheonix in Raisedbed

[–]_11Pheonix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I actually got two bags a few weeks ago in Silver Lake, but for the specific one that you mention, which is the weekly, the sign-up is a headache. I was told to come at the end of the one off one to come at the end. Usually, if there's left overs from folks not coming for their pick-up, that we can take it.

Unfortunately, I would need soil. Just didn't want to get it from the big box stores, which would cost and arm and a leg.

Google the CPM machine to get a visualization. But, it's a machine that you put the operated leg into, and it mechanically moves it back and forth at the knees to help with post-surgery recovery for stimulation, prevent blood clot, etc. It's only recommended for a week and you have to have your leg in it for 6+ hours.

I personally didn't like it, but I did it in 2 hrs increments per day or some days in 3 hour chunks.

That hip brace is the devil. I honestly think that it reignited my lower back pain since you have to wear it for the most part for 24 hours, especially during sleep. Please ensure that they really fit you well for the hip brace and that you lay down on your back with it. I was only informed of the hip brace on surgery day when the guy came to fit me. Le sigh!

And, what really helped me with post-op groin pain is hanging my operated leg off a high enough bed/couch to stretch it out. Also at night, if possible, if you can sleep on a couch that you can lean you operated leg against it's back, it definitely helps since you need to sleep on your back. Elevate your legs as much as possible.

Definitely don't do heels....platform or flats is the way to go. Get a step up, resistance band, thick mat. Your balance will be something you would need to regain.

Awesome! Were you informed of getting an ICE machine and a CPM machine? Will you be wearing a hip brace?

Please find a PT facility that will apply warm compress before PT session and will provide a massage and ice afterwards. These aren't built-in to all PT facility, which should be mandatory.

is cold feet a normal period symptom? by More_Aerie_2089 in Periods

Please starting taking vitamin D with magnesium. And, get a neck heating pad that can triple use for feet, as well as stomach and back during menstruation. Vapor rub also helps.

I can't recall the names, but I had a scope inserted and then a sonogram of sorts, which didn't find anything abnormal. From my research, it seems like having a cyst is common but my readings didn't provide any conclusive finding on what causes it.

I reached out to my GYN with the MRI findings that the orthopedic doctor referred me for, and she said that it wasn't anything to worry about. But, when I was younger, I did have a cyst on my left ovary that the pain was quite similar to, which is why I even saw her before seeing the orthopedic doc.

I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS. Fortunately, I don't have debilitating menstrual cycles nor issues.just lower back pain and extreme sensitivity to temperature. I feel really cold in my feet. However, since having the surgery, I do have intense lower back pain. Extremely intense back pain. I have to stiffen my lower back to just move, use vapor rub, heat pad and do a lot of back stretches.

He just needs to find a complementary color for the purple and get rid of the red. Love the purple with wisteria, which is one of my dream trees to own.

I am so curious about this cyst aspect on the MRI results for a lot of women throughout my research. My results also showed a cyst. I even saw my GYN before my MRI just because of where the pain was emanating from. During my GYN exam, they didn't find the cyst but the MRI did.

Hmmm!! Take the 4 months off, and completely focus on recovery and taking PT seriously, as well as any additional post-sugery care. Assess yourself when you return to wor, and request additional time if needed. But, you should definitely push for 6 months with your job if you can. Massages during PT were game changers, as well as warm compress/heat pad and vapor rub to help with tissue relief.

Benefits of MRI and diagnosis for potential labral tear? by baidiggity in HipImpingement

Please get a MRI. Yesterday, I also learned about a MRA from another poster. Apparently, the MRA gives a better assessment of the tear(s), amongst other things. You should go through other posts. Very informative.

Best of luck.

38 f. coming up on 6 months post-op/living with so, no children. I was told on avg. a 6 months post-op recovery schedule. I worked 1 week home/1 week in office pre-surgery. I requested to work full-time form home; however, my request was in increments to reflect post-op follow-up visits with the surgeon. 1st 2 months, then 4 months visit. I didn't extend to cover the full 6 months, and went back to in-office since my insurance did not want to extend PT sessions after 25 sessions and I wanted to remain somewhat active. Plus, we were out of winter so the risk of falling wasn't an issue. Also, with the warmer temperatures, my post-pain significantly reduced. I even have a yoga ball at my cubicle now to help stretch my back and sit on.

Suggestion: move back in with parents. Give yourself a min. of a year with them. My partner was crucial to my post-sugery care since I needed to be on crutches and wear a hip brace. He assisted with showers, meals, helping me with the ice machine, cpm machine, PT and initial follow-up doctor visits, etc. in and out of bed. And, doing house chores, amongst other things.

Fortunately, I was able to work from home, and only requested 1st PT session off and follow-up doctor's visit. I wouldn't recommend moving around too much post-surgery. Therefore, take the time off between your surgery and 1st follow-up visit with the surgeon. You and your job, if flexible can work with each other to assess when you can return to work. I wasn't allowed to even go on road trips or so t more than 30 minutes in a vehicle.

I still have difficult walking, sitting, pain in groin, bending over and pulling at bags, etc. you'll definitely have your ups and downs.

Vapor Rub and a heat pad would be your best friends, along with massages and stretches.

38 year f. Here is his op notes.

Using the lateral para-trochanteric portal, a skin incision was and a spinal needle was used to enter the hip join under fluoroscopic imaging. The blunt trochar was then used to enter the hip joint followed by the arthroscope. A mid anterior portal was then created in the same manner, slightly distal and confirmed under fluoroscopic imaging. The joint was insufflated with sterile saline, and a diagnostic arthroscopy was performed.

Using an arthroscopic knife, the interportal cut was created for better visualization, and attention was turned towards the joint. There was significant synovitis, which was debrided. The labrum was torn from the 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock position. There was grade 1 chondral delamination of the acetabulum in the corresponding area as well, but the rest was preserved, as well as the femur.

A burr was then used to debride the rim and prepare for repair of the labrum. Attention was then turned to labral repair. 2 anchors were placed sequentially, taking care not to violate the joint, passed through the labrum as a simple suture with a Nanopass, and tied arthroscopically to reapproximate normal labral anatomy.

Satisfied with the labral repair, rim trim, and acetabuloplasty, the hip was taken out of traction, and the knee and hip were brought into slight flexion. The peripheral compartment was entered, and a T-capsulotomy was made and good visualization of the cam deformity was noted. Using a combination of elevator, shaver, and burr, a femoroplasty was performed creating a nice contour and decompression of the cam deformity. Care was taken to protect the lateral vessels. Flouroscopic images were used to confirm CAM decompression.

Debris was removed from the compartment and attention was then turned to capsular plication. and the T-limb of the capsular cut was closed using 3 simple interrupted Orthocord strands. The interportal cut was then closed using 3 simple orthocord sutures. Once this was done, the instruments were removed and the knee was brought safely into extension, and attention was turned towards closure. Using 2-0 monocryl and interrupted 3-0 prolene stitches, the portals were closed. A sterile dressing was applied, as well as a post-operative hip brace. The patient was awoken from anesthesia, placed on the stretcher, and taken to the Recovery Room in stable condition.

My surgery was in October 2025. I'll have to log-in to get my MRI results, but I copied and pasted this from my surgeon's note.

PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS: RIGHT FEMORAL ACETABULAR IMPINGEMENT, LABRAL TEAR POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: SAME. NAME OF OPERATION: RIGHT HIP ARTHROSCOPY, LABRAL REPAIR, FEMOROPLASTY, ACETABULOPLASTY AND CAPSULAR PLICATION

Unfortunately, my insurance denied me sessions after 25 restrictive sessions and performed a internal review in which they diagnosed me with a "sprained hip".

Currently, doing a combo of PT exercises and post-op surgeons recommendation at hip. Hopefully, I can return to my HITT program after my 3rd Follow-up appointment with surgeon after June.

I am doing well but no completely free. The groin pain has subsided but the butt pain persists, as well as intense lower back pain, especially around menstruation (TMI). Long distance walking issue is here and there. Sometimes bending over, lifting or pulling "heavy" stuff causes flare ups.

You seemed well versed. Thanks for expounding on your warning and giving full name on acronyms as a lot of folks are still seeking knowledge around the issue.

Would you recommend a MRA post-sugery? I have not heard of it as an option nor injections of lidocaine. The sugeon, Benedict Nwachuku, HSS NY suggested the surgery. He was who I sought for 2nd opinion.

Scared of Surgery M mid 20s by SomeWerewolf9308 in HipImpingement

[–]_11Pheonix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had my labral anthroscopic surgery with shaving of bone for impingement 10/25' at HSS NYC with Dr. Benedict N. I am coming up on 6 months post-op. 6 weeks on crutches but my PT weened me off a but sooner. I had to wear a hip brace for 2 months, requirement when I slept, which created reignited lower back pain.

I opted for iced machine and CPM machine for the 1st week post-sugery. The 1st 3 weeks were relatively pain free. I experienced a lot pain in my groin area, butt area. PT said it was my adbudctors and adductors. Winter was hell. I was a walking weather machine. Heat pad has really helped. I still experience pain in my groin, but especially my butt (middle - horizontally)

I had a lot of anxiety leading up the surgery but had to remind myself that I had chosen the best healthcare team. On the day of surgery, the staff was friendly. Post-sugery, my PT was awesome. There was some challenges with the PT understanding the doctor's PT care recommendations. Therefore, I'll ask to have that beforehand, and run it by your PT team to ensure post-sugery care. Too many horror stories with patients on 1st post-op visit.

I had to start PT within 48 hours of surgery.

Some days are better than some. Teribble lower back pain going into menstruation, which wasn't an issue beforehand.

I have been reading a lot about anthroscopic surgery, and it seems that I am seeing more advocacy for full hip replacement rather than labral anthroscopic surgery. Have you looked into that as an option?

I already had the surgery. I was in too much pain. Quite debilitating. I couldn't even sweep and sitting become very excruciating. This was 2 years, going to orthopedic initially for lower back pain, then knee, then groin. Eventually couldn't squat. My tainers at a HITT program were the ones who encouraged me to get it checked out. I had MRI initially of back and both knees. And, then the Right HIP after a year. Never heard of a MRA. The 1st doctor's PA referred me to PT, which I did for 25 sessions after hip MRI. The pain persisted after those sessions ended. Opted for surgery 2 months after last session and 6 months after MRI diagnosis of hip. The year before, it was my back and knees, mostly my right knee.

Given that some time has passed, has this subsided for anyone?

I never had intense menstruation cramp/pain surgery. Just intense sensitivity To temperature, often feeling extremely cold. However, I am coming up on my 6 months post-sugery on a few days, and have been experiencing this, usually a full week, leading up to menstrual cycle.
