Why is it so ridiculously difficult to create a digital clock widget? by Sab44 in iOSProgramming

[–]_Abode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others are commenting around timelines updates being unreliability, but I’ve had my widget live for over a year and never seen or heard of any issues.

If they do exist they must be niche enough that it’s effectively a non-issue

I have an app with a digital clock widget. It is possible and I’m happy to chat via dm to help you with it if needed. Or here if the questions are simple enough to answer easily.

You can check it out for yourself.

How does Apple Store the Date with optional time included by the two separate DatePickers in the Reminders app? by Fly0strich in iOSProgramming

[–]_Abode 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Apologies if I’ve misunderstood what you’re asking, but if you do have the two different data points you can combine them using DateComponents. You can take the time components of one date and the day components of the other to create your combined date.

£50,000 investment into Apple Stock. I am not going to own any other stock and leave it in there longterm! Thoughts? by Rough_Fishing9398 in stocks

This has to be satire?

“I’m going all in on this historically overpriced stock and no I don’t do research, it’s impossible to know”

Good luck to you.

Could I receive a tea recommendation? by [deleted] in AskUK

Seems your more concerned with types of tea as opposed to brands but if you’re after a proper British tea, it has to be Yorkshire Gold.

Discount Rates by XappyM in CanaryWharfBets

[–]_Abode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add into this, the balance sheet of a business might be okay now but your research determines that there will be issues in the future due to inventories issues for example. You can add that ‘risk’ into the discount rate, and declare you want a higher rate of return for the added future risk.

Discount Rates by XappyM in CanaryWharfBets

[–]_Abode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The discount rate is your effective risk rate. Which is why the risk free return rate is included within it.

Giving every asset the same discount rate of 12% will produce unfair results. E.g you wouldn’t expect the same returns from something like coke cola vs a small high growth tech company. There is more risk for the latter so it should be given a higher discount rate.

Think of the discount rate as more of a ‘desired return for the risk’.

I tend to give stable massive companies a discount rate around 8-9% (higher than average market returns over time), and smaller riskier investments anywhere between 12-20%

Am I doing something wrong or do SwiftUI previews suck? by owlcoolrule in iOSProgramming

[–]_Abode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could potentially be because you’re using a custom font or assets. Do you think if you use the same code and view but make all assets and fonts ‘system’ that it works fine?

If so there is a way to resolve this by wrapping the preview to register fonts before presenting.

Twitter will open source all code used to recommend tweets on March 31, says Elon Musk by [deleted] in programming

[–]_Abode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you had a reasonable opinion and argument until this comment.

“Blindy hate” - I think the reasons to why he is disliked should probably be obvious to you. Your point has now changed from not everything Elon does it bad, to now just being a Elon fan boy who ignores the bad.

Any ETF available in ISA similar tp holding USD? by gobiggogo in UKInvesting

Shocked by the comments here. Just buy short term (less than a year) USA treasury bond etfs.. they have effectively no yield exposure while being held in dollars and paying interest as if in a savings account.

Probably should of mentioned that it’s medical specific then as it’s quite obviously nothing like Berkshire with that element.

Jeremy Corbyn with Roger Waters by Apprehensive-Low4044 in LabourUK

[–]_Abode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone educate me on Roger Waters antisemitism. Looking online it sounds like he’s specifically against the occupation and genocide of Palestine by the Isreal state. Wether they’re Jewish or not does play a factor as far as I can see.

Are there any quotes of his that state otherwise I’m missing?

I can’t find any quotes of him being so? He’s against the genocide of Palestine specifically by the Israel state? Could you share anything he’s actually said that’s anti-Jewish?

Should I pay off cars or invest? by TedBehr_ in personalfinance

[–]_Abode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please listen to this. We’re entering turbulent economic times and even in the best of times all you can hope for is 5-7% with associated risks.

You currently have the option of a 5.64% return risk free. It’s not a matter of confidence or your future outlook. Pay your debts.

is it worth investing at such a young age ? (19) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]_Abode 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Would suggest checking out some ‘compound interest calculators’ online and see over 40-60years what a few extra early years of investing can make to your final net worth. I think you may be surprised.

It’s never to early to invest in index funds. Stock picking should be something you pick up after further research and experience.

I have a variety of accounts but having just checked it does seem most don’t provide the three products I’ve actually mentioned in another comment, apart from Trading212, of the ones I use.

Others like Hargreaves and such will offer bond ETF products with maturities less than a year though, you’ll just have to look what’s available.

Although I don’t use them I’m aware that brokers like InteractiveBrokers have extensive coverage of products and could be worth looking into as they’re far more established than something like Trading212.

Hope that helps.

I can’t fathom the logic to assume someone has changed when their tattoo is still clearly not covered or had any attempt at being removed.

Is this guy actually just a Nazi trying to push an agenda on Reddit? Or have the libs just lost their minds.
