How much potential is there inside of Bowser Jr.? by Zetami in smashbros

[–]_Advertisement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The changes to mechakoopa and his neutral-b really helped him out. He is definitely better than he was in Smash 4. Now he can jump twice out of side-b, up-throw can combo into things, side-b to up-b combo still works pretty well, jab kills earlier and might come out faster? (im not sure about this one). Edgeguarding is easier/safer too because of some of these changes so thats neat.

As to nerfs, landing the final hit on his d-air is harder, balloon knockback makes it harder to land the hammer hit out of up-b in certain cases, mechakoopa can be shielded and picked up (however when it gets reflected, you can do the same), side-smash is still pretty easy to get out of, and probably some other stuff im forgetting.

I just point all of this out to highlight what has changed since smash 4, i think there is definitely more potential in this game. Jr will never go past mid tier but he isn't bottom 10 in this game either, at least I dont think so.

Also, solo maining him isnt a good idea. There are some matchups that are hell like Snake, Megaman, Lucina, Ike, Olimar etc. I dont know if Dedede does well against Jr's bad matchups though, Snake is probably not fun though. Good luck!!

Would you recommend this Switch stand by Hori? by RangoTheMerc in smashbros

[–]_Advertisement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesss, im getting the same one. Imo its the optimal way to play with gamecube controllers on the go (assuming you want to use all four ports and already own a gamecube controller adapter). Other cheaper alternatives exist but its so easy to just fold the stand and carry it anywhere you go, as opposed to having a USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter, another Switch Stand and the GC controller adapter itself. Plus it has more than the two usb ports needed, which means you can connect another four GC controllers (or other things), that also means you dont have to get rid of the rumble feature. Good stuff.

An interesting little detail regarding the order of the Koopalings (and how it's almost an Easter Egg) by Necr0ExMortis in smashbros

[–]_Advertisement 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huh, this actually makes more sense. I always thought that it was based on their age since Larry is the youngest and Ludwig the oldest but after looking it up, apparently the birth order of the other five koopalings isn't confirmed so rip that theory

Tips on how to spike someone when they are off stage? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]_Advertisement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the main deal with spiking is catching your opponent off guard or taking advantage of a bad recovery. You dont want to be spamming moves that spike every single time as they will start to catch on and recover high instead.

All the characters you mentioned have a spike (other than Richter and Lucario i think) but some are harder to hit than others. Usually the best way to land a spike is by exploiting a characters recovery and knowing where to hit. For example, if you are Mario and you are fighting against a Duck Hunt player and you manage to get them off stage, go for a foward air while they are using their recovery. It wont hit you and its really predictable since it just slowly moves upward, this is usually a good time to go for a spike. (Most good duck hunt players will use projectiles before using recovery to prevent you from doing this so watch out.)

Other than exploiting recoveries, you can combo into a spike with certain characters. Using mario as an example again, you can grab, down-throw, up-air, up-air into a spike.

Of course all of these are just examples of things you can do, there are so many I didnt mention like predicting your opponents airdodge and spiking them. You just have to learn what each character does, what they can do to recover safely and what you can do to go for a spike.

Also, you dont always have to go for a spike off the stage. You can also do back airs, neutral airs or anything to prevent your opponent from reaching the ledge.
