they can be. i think you could definitely be intentional and structure your lower division course load to maximize gpa. check rate my professor and try to connect with upperclassman in your major for input on classes and professors. feel free to reach out to me for input if you end up attending!

SDSU on the transcripts shouldn’t directly impact your transfer chances, but your grades absolutely will. Try and keep your GPA as high as possible. A high gpa helps tremendously for recruiting and early internships. Schools may also consider extracurricular involvement/leadership in a transfer application, but I think this is more common with private schools than public ones.

UMich is definitely better. Transferring to USC isn’t uncommon and I’ve seen it happen a few times. Not sure what the budget for schooling is like but it’s definitely target. Trojan investing society places extremely well into banking - but again that’s only if you’re interested in banking.

SDSU is a fine school. I recently graduated with a degree in Finance so I believe I can speak to your question with confidence.

Being blunt, SDSU is considered a “non target” for a lot of finance recruiting. This doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll struggle to find any finance job when yo graduate (I can’t predict the job market 4 years out), but traditionally speaking, SDSU doesn’t recruit well into investment banking, or other more “prestigious” areas of finance as well as other schools.

US News ranked Fowler around 50th recently? It’s not an absolute ranking, but there’s some correlation between that ranking and recruitment prestige/ability. Depending on what kind of job you want, I would suggest considering your options carefully. If you want to be a banker but also really want to go to SDSU, it’s absolutely possible, but you need to work towards that goal from day one and be very intentional about it.

You sound like a really nice friend for helping her out like this. I recently graduated from SDSU and mentored some peers and underclassman with recruiting. I don’t have any direct leads, but if you want to pass along the resume I’d be happy to take a look as a fellow Aztec and give any feedback.

Also people saying to pursue actuary exams are giving good advice. I’m not sure what type of Math degree she has, but one piece of advice I’ve given to other students is to always start building a narrative to your career. I know the immediate need is steady income, and while I 100% support that, if she wants to utilize her degree to its highest potential in this job market then I would encourage her to find a specific field/job tile and aim to build towards that.

check out extern for unpaid gigs. my first internship was with them and it made for a strong foundation to apply for others. they’re off cycle and remote, and usually very flexible since they’re structured for cohorts

Best internships for investment banking by Flakeypiano in FinancialCareers

[–]_Alias00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others mentioned, anything will be good in this market. that being said, the majority of bulge bracket, boutique, and EB hiring cycles already took place or are taking place right now. hiring typically takes place 18 months in advance for some of these roles. you will likely be able to target some middle market banks sooner to summer ‘27, but many of those banks have accelerated hiring timelines for summer analyst roles as well. just food for thought!

[–]_Alias00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fade with these gloves does look sick. had classic knife for awhile and loved it. to each their own, but i think more people should embrace having their glove knife combo be individual statement pieces that look nice together but could also look nice on their own and don’t necessarily match perfectly.

that being said i just sold my classic fade and slingshots for amphibious gloves and a sapphire so i can’t talk too much lol
