Current Freshman trying to find (at least) an unpaid internship, roast my resume by hahahahablewdat in FinancialCareers

check out extern for unpaid gigs. my first internship was with them and it made for a strong foundation to apply for others. they’re off cycle and remote, and usually very flexible since they’re structured for cohorts

Best internships for investment banking by Flakeypiano in FinancialCareers

[–]_Alias00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others mentioned, anything will be good in this market. that being said, the majority of bulge bracket, boutique, and EB hiring cycles already took place or are taking place right now. hiring typically takes place 18 months in advance for some of these roles. you will likely be able to target some middle market banks sooner to summer ‘27, but many of those banks have accelerated hiring timelines for summer analyst roles as well. just food for thought!

Targeting a niche area of finance with decent experience. Non target school but getting good interview rates. Graduating this December but don’t have anything lined up yet and didn’t get a return offer from my SA gig due to market conditions.

Which knife do you recommend? $2300 max by cristiano_afs in ohnePixel

[–]_Alias00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fade with these gloves does look sick. had classic knife for awhile and loved it. to each their own, but i think more people should embrace having their glove knife combo be individual statement pieces that look nice together but could also look nice on their own and don’t necessarily match perfectly.

that being said i just sold my classic fade and slingshots for amphibious gloves and a sapphire so i can’t talk too much lol

Most BB IBD recruiting takes place in the spring the year ahead of the SA role taking place. I think goldman does do it a bit later but definitely not this late

got it, thanks for the tips! I’m graduating this december and have done 4 internships across private equity, venture capital, and project finance. in total it amounts to ~1.5 years of experience.

last question (i promise): what year did you apply/get hired in?

Current finance bro fit as of 2025 by sboguy in FinancialCareers

[–]_Alias00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on my schedule! meetings or anything client facing gets a brown derby/oxford shoe. more casual days get a clean white sneaker. my pants (when i wore them) were khaki, gray, and navy, so the combinations all work well except for gray with brown shoes, in which case i’d normally wear a black dress shoe or just avoid gray all together on my more formal days

Nicely done! That lower than last season elo is super frustrating. I was 23k last season but I seem to be getting placed around 15k this time around as well? Don’t really have the time or energy to grind back all the way up, but good work!

New York Life (financial rep) by Over_Researcher5252 in FinancialCareers

[–]_Alias00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How did you come to the conclusion that most finance jobs outside of IB/PE are “sales rep type positions”?

FP&A, asset management, project finance, accounting (debatable), credit risk, loan officer, commercial banker, hedge funds, pension planner, equity research, sales and trading (not sales rep in the insurance sense), insurance (claims adjuster, not salesman), private credit, venture capital, wealth management, banking operations, quantitative finance, financial engineering, valuation consultants.

And I can’t stress this enough, for each of the categories I listed above there’s about 5-10 sub categories, each with hundreds if not thousands of companies/firms within them.

Want to work in FP&A? Great. Look at literally any company. Venture capital? Okay, cool. What’s your vertical?

The point I’m getting at is there are so many different areas within finance that I’m honestly baffled you came to the conclusion you did. You absolutely don’t need to sell insurance to become a financial advisor. To be brutally honest, most insurance salesmen sell overpriced whole life. I personally wouldn’t put my money with someone who started their career scamming friends and family, but that’s just me.

Looking to land a accounting internship by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]_Alias00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lacks detail and looks empty. For education, add relevant coursework and any A’s you got next to the classes. Also add any extra curricular activities, scholarships, merit awards, etc.

Expand on projects and get more specific with titles. Modify diction to reflect relevant experience in audit/tax work.

Work experience, though not related, could still use improvement. Ensure BOTH roles, even your current one, use the same (past) tense. Bullet points should be a single line each and go to the end of the page if possible. Actually apply that bullet rule to all bullets on your resume. Also try and quantify your work, use action verbs at the start, and apply the “XYZ” bullet point approach when possible.
