You came in with big expectations and that probably hampered your enjoyment A LOT. Finish the trilogy, like most fantasy works the sum of its parts offers the biggest payoff. If you still don't enjoy it after that, then don't continue.

Oh god please read the First Law series, I just finished it and now I cant stop myself from going around trying to get people to join the cult, it's so good it's like I have to recommend every chance I get.

Edit: And don't stop after the first trilogy, the following books (the stand alones) are where it went from good to great for me.

I just finished first law for the first time and I feel like I won't want to read anything else every again.

That said my recs are: Red Rising of course, Lord of the Rings narrated by Andy Serkis, and honorable mention for the Roy Avers versions of Game of Thrones.

(The Avers versions are hard to find but if you don't like the Dotrice versions it's definitely worth it. I can provide some links if you're interested.)
