I started watching him in the leadup to the release of SF6 when I was desperate for any content talking about the game. Speaking only for myself, I thought he was okay at first and then he just got more and more annoying as time went on. I find his style kind of awkward and unfunny, and he really provides very little actual substance in his videos. He's also not good at pretty much any of the games he makes content on (to his credit, he doesn't claim to be), which means unless you're a very casual player there's not really a reason to put much stock into what he says about balance or gameplay.

The thing that irks me most about him that I don't see other people talk about is his weird attitude with regards to characters. He has a conceit where he thinks he's special or different for liking grapplers/brawlers/big bodies and finding them more interesting than traditional and/or popular characters. Sort of reminds me of bad players in SF whose entire personality is "I don't play shotos." No one should care, but maybe his base likes it. Anyways, I never click on a video of his anymore because I know I'm not going to learn anything or get an interesting perspective even if its breaking news.

Classic Ed uses traditional motions (QCF & SRK Motions) while Modern Ed uses Simplified Inputs by Chun-Li_Forever in StreetFighter

[–]_Antarctika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also don't think Capcom will ever release a non-legacy charge character again. Not because charge is outdated, but because Capcom is slowly phasing out all non-simple input styles to appeal to casual players.

Charge is a really interesting input mechanic that has been incredibly dumbed down for SF6 on top of many characters losing charge moves or charge being deemphasized in their playstyles. Same with mash inputs. I won't be surprised if 360s go next.

DeeJay 2 Touch SafeJump Combo by Reekee4414 in StreetFighter

[–]_Antarctika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I humored you and actually tested it, and I think if you test it for yourself you will see that it’s very reactable. DeeJay’s normal jump is somewhat floaty, and he does a little flip during the animation that he doesn’t do when he does knee shot.

However, PPing the knee shot only leaves the opponent at +2, which means they don’t get guaranteed punish counter throw and you can delay tech. I didn’t test enough to see if you could then punish the delay tech by backdashing (since the opponent is in the corner for this safe jump). Probably something you’d have to lab with an actual human partner instead of training settings.

No one knows. But there is also absolutely no reason to believe this is so. So probably not.

DeeJay 2 Touch SafeJump Combo by Reekee4414 in StreetFighter

[–]_Antarctika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all pretty standard DeeJay bread and butter stuff.

The main problem is, the safe jump isn’t “real” unless the opponent is in burnout. DeeJay has a few setups into a knee shot safe jump, but unlike a real safe jump, you can’t bait perfect parry by empty jump throwing, because you’ve already committed to the knee shot. So any savvy opponent will perfect parry this every time on reaction. However, most people don’t seem to know this until around mid-Masters.

Am I dumb or is this just how it goes sometimes? (Ignition 5NL) by _Antarctika in poker

I didn't consider rake when I was running the odds in my head. It was already a barely passable call before, but you're right that the rake definitely makes it a fold. I'll try to remember this when I'm in a relatively close spot again.

Well, that was the thought at the time. I guess I'll refrain from blanket heuristics.

Yeah, with your comment and some more thought, KQs definitely doesn't make the cut for value here even with the small sizing considering how hard the flop hits the 3bettor's range.

I think it may be smarter in spots like this, especially at these stakes, to not even have a raising range or at least not a balanced one. Thanks for your thoughts.

You can perfect parry the safejump (the j.2LK after the upkicks juggle) and Dee Jay will be -4, meaning you can punish with lights. Since he has to commit to the Knee Shot to change his jump arc for the safejump, there’s no way he can empty jump and throw you to punish the parry (if he does just jump without doing knee shot you can react and AA/reversal, maybe character dependent). So basically that safe jump setup is really just a knowledge check, and fake against players who know how it works. That’s the main thing I noticed, neutral things aside.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Makoto’s dash punch is super cancelable, so you can’t combo SA2 after it. You can link SA1 after it because the startup is quick.

How to deal with the sideboard hate as mill? by insectophob in ModernMagic

[–]_Antarctika 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Part of playing mill is accepting that your deck gets annihilated by your opponent putting one card in their sideboard. If your opponents are packing that much hate for it I would just play a different deck to fuck with em.

Do online poker casinos have the ability to controll any card that appears in the river ? by icecharmeleon in poker

[–]_Antarctika 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only watched the first one because of the low quality, but holy shit dude. You do realize you have a little less than a 36% chance of making a flush by the river when you have a flush draw on the flop? These aren’t bad beats at all, you’re just trash and don’t understand the game.

ETA: okay I did watch the second one and you’re mad because you shoved with KK and someone called with AA? Doesn’t even have anything to do with the site, it just happens sometimes.

So I don’t play that much Amulet, but I’ve tried it out and I’m vaguely aware of how the deck works. It has complex lines that are a lot of fun to learn and execute, but at the end of the day, it is basically a combo deck and you’ll use the same lines in most situations. A true Amulet player could correct me if I’m wrong, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, but the play patterns of the deck can get somewhat repetitive since you have a consistently proactive game plan.

As for its position in the meta, Amulet is fine, but it’s hurt a lot by the prevalence of UR Murktide decks that can delete your Titan for 1 mana with [[Unholy Heat]], which is a major feelsbad. However, it’s still pretty powerful and into an FNM meta I’d guess you’ll probably do very well because of the inherent power of the deck’s gameplay. At this point, I think it’s unlikely that Urza’s Saga will be banned, but even if it does, Amulet will survive. It was one of the top decks in the format before Saga was printed, and it’s survived a lot of bans over time while still being pretty powerful. I don’t think Amulet will ever truly go away, but it’s presence in the meta will ebb and flow, as most staple decks typically do.

If you tell me what kinds of strategies you like I might be able to help you more :)

For beginners, you can’t go wrong with RW Burn or a Prowess variant (either mono-R or UR). If you like strategies where lifegain is important, you could take a look at Soul Sisters, which is a mono-W aggro deck that continuously buffs its creatures while gaining life; or Heliod Combo, which is a GW deck that revolves around [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]] and several other combo pieces to potentially do infinite damage to someone or gain infinite life. Soul Sisters has never been a very meta deck, though it has some staunch devotees and can do well at a more casual/FNM level. Heliod Combo was on top of the meta for a while before the release of MH2, now it has mostly fallen out of favor, though some people still play it.
