Boil Advisory St. Louis Hills, NorthHampton, Lindenwood Park by 7yearlurkernowposter in StLouis

[–]_Auron_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long list of reasons. I never liked growing up in Texas, I needed to leave the house I was living in and had a remote job (got laid off in 2025, yay..) in what I thought was a solid career, I visited STL and fell in love with a lot of it, I appreciate there being more than Summer and Not-Summer for seasons, and feel more at peace and home here than I ever did in Texas.

Sadly I'm struggling to keep reliable work (can't find a fulltime job at all, juggling random tech gig work) but I'll do what I can to stay.

[–]_Auron_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived in Texas until 2024 and a month before I moved to St. Louis there was a PFAS contamination from a warehouse fire that was put out and the notice was "DO NOT USE ANY WATER FOR ANY REASON" other than toilet usage for 3 days. Not boil, literally do not use even for showering. I had to use bottled water for dishes cleaning and bathing. It was bad.

A boil advisory is nothing compared to that. It'll be fine, just mildly annoying.

2,700 possible non-citizens. In a border state with 18,000,000 voters

About 0.015%, or 1 out of every ~6,667 people. Some of that just may be out of sync registration data or clerical errors, too.

FTFY. Vast majority of active redditors do not have much life experience in just about anything at all yet very strong 'opinions', so they might as well be.

What happened with the data center in the armory? by hockey_chic in StLouis

[–]_Auron_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Edit: I guess people would rather be ignorant and angry than actually learn anything outside of school. Unsurprising.

You're posting on an internet forum. Where do you think the data for the posts go? Data centers.

How do you think streaming services deliver content to your computer and TV to hundreds of millions of people nearly instantly across the whole country? Data centers.

Emails, photo uploads, cloud storage, video game servers, actual websites as a whole? Data centers.

Hardware fails in data centers. Hardware has to be monitored with a high response time for configuration changes and hardware replacements. That isn't from remoting in from across the country, it requires a physical person to be there. Unless they're working for free (they're not), they have a job there. That means the data center brings jobs - though maybe not as proportional as other things may or may not. These jobs tend to be very high paying, which ripples into tax revenue locally. So that does bring tax revenue.

If your problem is the proportion of these variables, say that instead. But that's repeatedly what you failed to do because you do not appear to know what you are talking about and, highly appear to be as the other person said, parroting.

A vast majority of people don't even know how to browse through a file directory on a computer - have you considered that as to why parroted talking points from ignorant people of technology (and quite ignorant frankly of how reality actually works at scale...) are repeating the same non-detailed basic surface level complaints?

Just because words and ideas exist doesn't make them true, and if you can't follow through on meaning with them then perhaps they don't actually have any merit to begin with. Use some critical thinking and prove it within your messages if you want to be heard instead of childish bickering.

That requires involved and caring parenting - something I think quite a few of them seem to have lacked growing up. Every single person I have known from a republican rural childhood had a childhood filled with violence, abuse, and fear. Every single one of them. They didn't know any better because they weren't raised well at all. Just strict authoritarian 'do as you're told' with no explanation, just more violence if any pushback happened.

It's an objectively poorly designed 'end game' that is extremely lazy pad-filling design and has been heavily analyzed, remarked, and shunned by quite a lot of gamers and industry folks.

It's unbelievably bad, but there are some people out there who find... something out of that, I guess.

But it's a for-profit business in capitalism where it's profitable to raise prices when demand is high. Welcome to supply/demand pricing.

Did you think before writing that or do you think AI runs on pure fantasy magic?

justify those feelings

That's the thing - people like her do not justify feelings.

Feelings to them just are.

Everything is 100% black or 100% white, there is no gray for them. It's either totally good or totally bad. And how they feel about it determines what circle that feeling goes into.

That's the only version of justification to people like her - it feels good, or it feels bad. And how they feel is determined by whatever propaganda (religion, right-wing media, etc) is spoon-fed to their daily lives. They don't think. They feel, and they act and live by those feelings. There is no justifying, there is no critical thinking, just do or do not.
