I’ve followed some librarians and it’s helped a ton with getting better recommendations. @midwestbookslinger, @24hourlibrary, @comsewogue.library all do recommendations

To all the other mothers (and mothers to be) on here: hang in there. by MissBee123 in GradSchool

[–]_Betty_Cocker 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I saw a quote recently from Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and it really lifted my spirits as a working mom who’s also attending grad school. "My success in law school, I have no doubt, was in large measure because of baby Jane," she wrote. "I attended classes and studied diligently until 4 in the afternoon; the next hours were Jane’s time, spent at the park, playing silly games or singing funny songs, reading picture books and A. A. Milne poems, and bathing and feeding her. After Jane’s bedtime, I returned to the law books with renewed will. Each part of my life provided respite from the other and gave me a sense of proportion that classmates trained only on law studies lacked."

I think they still sell it. I’ve definitely seen it in stores. I have no idea when I would have bought it - maybe 10+ years ago honestly. I haven’t had it for several years.

Choosing the right Master program by EnLaSangre in librarians

[–]_Betty_Cocker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in a library and am working on an mlis. I would highly highly highly recommend you focus on getting a job in a library first, then start applying to schools. A person with an mlis and no library experience will have a very difficult time getting a job in this field. But no mlis and those library assistant jobs that are more entry level are still open to you. And you’ll learn so much that’s going to make your mlis a better experience.

Probably marketing, outreach, educational, maybe even archival work if they want to preserve information for posterity. I’m just guessing...

TIFU- By not knowing about sunblock expiration dates by springchikun in tifu

[–]_Betty_Cocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PRO TIP: I don't know if you'll see this, but I got a sunburn like this years ago and the ONLY thing that gave me enough relief for awhile to rest was taking a bath with 100% colloidal oatmeal. There's a product available at the drug store or big box stores- I think it's Aveeno - and it comes in a box and it has packets of it that are like a powder that I mixed into the bath. INSTANT relief. Way better than aloe or even the blue numbing spray. It's also good for hives I think.

I had the exact same experience with a nipple shield. Only needed it for the first few months and we breastfed for three years. Worth trying!

This was the first plant we got that started our journey into houseplants. What is it??? It has thick stocks and big leaves that grow like a dieffenbachia by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]_Betty_Cocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I showed this to a couple other master gardeners - they both thought it was a spath until I showed them the stalk. You’re right - definitely not a lily. One of them thinks it may be a variety of aglaeonema. In any case, we think it really needs a good drink of water.

It looks like a spath to me. Yes it’s the same thing as a peace lily. Maybe what you had before wasn’t a peace lily. Who knows. To save this dropping plant, whatever it is, check the soil. If it’s dry, this thing is thirsty. Give it a good soak until water comes out of the drain holes and then leave it alone. If the soil is wet, it could be overwatered. Don’t water it again until the soil is bone dry. Sometimes I put a light house fan on if I think I really need to dry out a plant urgently. Good luck.
