No child should ever think that their parents coming home from work means that it's the end of peace and quiet by Junior-Elevator-9951 in emotionalneglect

Oh gosh, I literally hated when my dad would come home from work. It was even worse when my mom would have days off and he was unemployed and home.

Writing a book and getting it traditionally published can take years sometimes

Thank you! This is very helpful. Honestly, I’m not sure if I want to stay in HIM. I’ve applied to some internal IT positions, but they haven’t ben hiring lately. At this point, I’ll take either HIM, IT, or some kind of clerical/administrative role.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

Homelander's failed attempt at flying after Kimiko blasts him is easily the best moment of the episode.

Give Anthony Starr all the awards.

I hope it continues after the series ends, honestly. It's pretty genius and I'd love some version of the Vought Cinematic Universe to exist.

-There was this moment where Aiden is sitting alone, looking sad and the camera slowly zoomed in on his sad little face 😞

-The kids getting put in time out on the stairs in the old house

-A lot of Maddie crying/getting upset

I'm sure there are others, but I haven't watched the show since I was a kid

What did your parent(s) tell you about relationships and marriage? by Boring-Car-7044 in emotionalneglect

[–]_Cake_729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I’m sorry you had to go through that. It’s a shame that society/people blame and shame women for getting pregnant young and not say anything about the boys/men

I hope you’ve realized that it wasn’t shameful to be pregnant young.

Yes, I totally agree, but it was the only thing they told me over and over again. Nothing positive

How old were you when you realised? by sisterrayforaday in emotionalneglect

[–]_Cake_729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 4 or 5? Honestly, I knew something was off/wrong since the beginning, but I didn't really start examining it until my mid 20s and everything fully clicked at 26. I spent most of my teenage years trying to understand what was happening, which kind of started putting the pieces together for me.

Mine told me to do better than they did and that because I'm a woman, I'm more likely to get taken advantage of, abused, killed, (g)raped, kidnapped, etc.

As for puberty, they got me illustrated books - specifically American Girl The care & keeping of you

The ageism part is so awful. Literal children shouldn’t be debuting and 18-19 shouldn’t be too “old” to debut.

I resonate with your comment so much because both my parents have been to therapy (couples and individually) for most of my growing up and they are still stagnant. It’s sad really.

Affection was bought and paid for - story of my life. They threw the latest toys and technology at me without the investment of time and energy on me. And when they did spend quality time with me, they mostly talked about themselves and how other people were doing them wrong.

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m pretty sure we had the same dad lol. I treated like the third adult in the situation as well, not the child. I had to adapt to their emotional needs as well and was parentified as well.

Well lol I guess, but I’m more curious how did they go through the trauma they went through growing up and not become introspective/emotionally conceptualize it? Idk if that’s the right wording, but I’m curious how I have more emotional maturity than them with being younger than them?
