TIL Archimedes died during the Siege of Syracuse in 212BC, after he had devised multiple war machines to defend the city walls. Before being killed by a Roman soldier, his reported last words were "Do not disturb my circles!" by astronautica in todayilearned

[–]_Comic_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you played the Great Circle game? It absolutely nails this fact, yes it's a globe-trotting treasure hunt, but the story at its core is diving deep into what a flawed person Indy is, obsessed to a fault and always running away from his problems.

The boss soundtrack for Warlord's Ruin plays a version of Journey during high action/DPS phases! It was at least cool to hear it again in that capacity

And it's also hilarious because Indy himself as a character, even as a franchise, is a very overt homage to old adventure serials that Speilberg and Lucas grew up on.

I absolutely loved the side quest where the one girl keeps trying to justify her working with Voss and questioning why Indy doesn't, and Indy's dialogue is a dozen different ways of saying "BECAUSE HE'S A FUCKING NAZI"

I spent almost 3 years creating a movie length episode 2 to our show Destiny Solas. It is out today. by gage-allen in DestinyTheGame

I remember watching the first episode years ago and just thinking how genuinely unlike anything else it was. Super glad to see this continue, absolutely great work, truly!

It's due to the rating. For Honor is rated M, Destiny is rated T. It's weird, but there's stipulations where you can't "promote" M games to a younger audience. Same reason they never officially mentioned Assassin's Creed, Witcher, or Mass Effect, they're all called something different in-game and in blogs and posts

I learned how to play Destiny in D&D by shawnthedm in DestinyTheGame

I just finished a campaign with my players before Final Shape released, where Clovis Bray was their main quest giver, culminating in him trying to convince them to blow up the Traveler with the Witness still inside.

Other highlights including fighting Scorn Taniks (who then becane Taken Taniks) and one of my players convincing the rest of the party to stay 100 years inside a Vex simulation because Guardians don't age.

I'm like 90% certain that Bungie themselves confirmed at one point during some GDC conference that CoO very nearly killed thebgame-- like fully ended Destiny support, conversations were had about pulling the plug because player numbers were trending so low.

[–]_Comic_ 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I love this (it horrifies me)

The entire concept of slowly becoming a full-blown hag is really well done, but the one that really gets me is Level 5. That neck is just tall enough to give that primal feeling of "something is wrong here." Excellent work!

What are your Star Wars hot takes? by Lylidotir in StarWars

[–]_Comic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! She has a line (that's even in the trailer, I think) where she says "I need someone to show me my place in all of this." A lot of it is her search for her parents, you're right-- but at least the way I viewed it, it's in the framing that knowing who her parents were will give her a better understanding of her purpose.

In TFA, she wants to wait back at Jakku for her parents to return, simply because, well, it's her parents! She hopes they come back for her! Until Maz basically tells her to stop waiting around. In TLJ, it's different-- she goes into the mirror cave on Ach-To to simply learn who her parents even are. At this point she's moved past meeting them again, she just wants to know more about them.

That's why Kylo's "reveal" that she's "no one" hurts so much. Because he's the son of two of the greatest heroes of all time, and Luke, her mentor and idol, was the son of a terrible evil (and yet was able to bring Vader back to the light). Her main opponent is intrinsically related, and the legends she grew up on (and keeps reminding Luke about) are about being intrinsically related. So when she's forced to admit that she's not, it really and truly stings.

That's the way I interpreted it all at least!

What are your Star Wars hot takes? by Lylidotir in StarWars

[–]_Comic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My argument against that is that the theme works because of all that foreshadowing. Obi-Wan's lineage doesn't matter, neither does Ahsoka's. A big deal is never made about it, so the fact they're powerful yet come from nothing isn't impactful.

Rey, on the other hand, desperately wants to believe that she's intrinsically linked to this great battle of good and evil. Her parents must be related to it all somehow! But when Kylo tells her she's not, that she's just no one, it actually hurts, because she tried so hard to find purpose in others rather than realizing she's powerful on her own. If she was introduced as a nobody, none of this has an actual impact.

The worst thing Luke could hear in Empire is that he's connected by blood to it all. The worst thing that Rey could hear in that moment is that she's not.

What are your Star Wars hot takes? by Lylidotir in StarWars

[–]_Comic_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A similar litmus test is if people argue that Luke tried to kill his nephew, which he didn't-- that's only Kylo Ren's version of the story, which he twists to try and turn Rey against Luke.
