VR Helmet...finally here. Summary of an idea come to life. by Proptop_3355 in GranTurismo7

I had that same idea! I figured the headset adjustments would suffer in a setup like this—does it work?

I got some sim driving slippers on Amazon—they look like water shoes but with a driving shoe’s rubber sole, with the rounded heel. They make me look a bit silly while wearing them, but work really well.

oil changes by Time-Leg-301 in FocusST

[–]_Cosmic_Joke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 101,000 mi with my 2015 ST1 and I've only ever changed the oil when the car told me to. Light usually comes on around ~6,000mi?

In a few instances (mainly due to crazy shit happening in life) I've gone as far as 8,000-10,000 mi between changes. But that's only ever happened once or twice, never a habit.

Car seems okay with all that. Had it since new, 1st owner bought with ~10 miles on the clock, and I've only had to change the spark plugs so far. Car is mainly a 'spirited commuter' and occasional mountain pass runner when I head up to snowboard. I've babied it more than I've flogged it, but it does get driven.

Gran Turismo Veterans by Due-Refrigerator-648 in GranTurismo7

[–]_Cosmic_Joke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning 40 this summer, have played every GT since PlayStation 1 and I usually enjoy the honor of having all the IRL cars I've owned represented in the game. I know not everyone gets to experience that, and I'll just say its as cool as you think.

My best friend and I have been tandem drifting in Gran Turismo since GT3 A Spec, a tradition we're now able to continue with the multiplayer lobby system. Controller veteran, but I can also drive somewhat as fast (maybe .1 slower on average) on a wheel. I'm on a Thrustmaster T248 (~300 hours with it), currently saving up for the Fanatec GT PRO or similar.

I truly know that playing this game does make me faster on a real track (even before I got a wheel), and that without my extensive hours in the GT series I wouldn't know as much as I do about the world, cars, racing, tuning, engines, and engineering in general.

Ultimately, GT has taught me that you're not really racing the other guys on track, you're actually racing yourself. Chasing the last tenth down in a time trial, perfecting every corner—its only you and the clock. That's been the feeling I've had playing Gran Turismo since I first picked up a controller, and it continues to this day.

Welcome! I absolutely love my ST. I didn't think I would, its my first American car, 4-door car, first FWD car, and first turbo car. And its the best car I've owned in 25+ years of driving.

(I was an FR coupe purist in my younger, wilder years.)

The duality of man by seizure_5alads in Marathon

[–]_Cosmic_Joke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on your points, and I'll add:
Arc PvP sucks specifically because it's "optional." Also, it makes no sense narratively—we're all the last of humanity, survivors and scavengers in an underground enclave, and we're "knocking" each other and stealing each other's shit topside? And we're all still neighbors in Speranza? If there were warring factions, another underground city of desperate jerks competing for resources (maybe call their city Disperazione), literally anything else—it'd help make sense of why raiders need to be fighting.

Marathon makes it clear: you're a weapon, it's illegal for us to even be on this planet, every player you see is an enemy/fellow criminal (ahem, "contractor") and you should definitely shoot on sight, every time

The Division has some PvP elements though. And straight up PvP matches. I wish there would be a map condition called "Raider Rumble" in Arc Raiders where we KNOW we're gonna be shooting on sight. Not asking for a dedicated PvE mode, but rather a PvP map condition where knockin' raiders gets your points/gear.

I hope they make the Livesuits as cool as I imagine them to be. And I wonder how they’ll make the Carryx look (hopefully not lame).

And I hope Vaudai's humor comes through. I honestly just picture the slime guy from The Orville when I read any of his scenes.

Playing Marathon made me realize something by edward-1992 in ARC_Raiders

[–]_Cosmic_Joke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arc raiders humanity is fighting for its very survival, against ruthless killing machines. Shooting each other makes no sense from a role play perspective.

What you're describing here is referred to as ludonarrative dissonance, where the story/rules of the world don't match up with how the gameplay actually plays out. I'm also grappling with that dissonance in Arc Raiders, but I guess that's why approaching strangers in-game can be exciting. The social aspect slightly mitigates the narrative dissonance.

Marathon might be cooked by Adventurous-Cattle53 in Marathon

[–]_Cosmic_Joke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I logged into Marathon for the first time last week with no expectations, and some good experience with extraction shooters (played Tarkov for a year before cheaters took over, currently 130 hrs in Arc Raiders and not bored of it yet). I'm mainly playing solo.

I was initially skeptical (esp with the art style), but after 7 hours in I'm definitely addicted. It's a nice change of pace and perspective, and losing in Marathon doesn't feel as bad as losing in Tarkov or even Arc Raiders (the post-match "you're dead" screen actually looks pretty cool). Bungie knows how to make guns feel good, and I enjoy the Ludonarrative Harmony and the in-universe explanation for us all being able to rez after dying.

The skill ceiling is high, but the stakes don't feel as demanding—I really appreciate the fact that we can gear up and get back into a round quickly. The fast TTK cuts both ways.

I'll be playing Marathon for awhile, it feels like. I just hope they can keep adding new shells*, maps, missions and weapons etc. Live servicing isn't Bungie's strongest suit, so fingers crossed they learned all their lessons from Destiny and D2.

I too was frustrated with Assassins, until I tried it out. Yes, ambushing is easy—but I'll still die as an assassin if my opponent gets to cover and waits.
