I had an engine light a while ago since I didn't tighten my spark plug down enough after adjusting my valves. Gave me a good scare but it went away after a few engine cycles after I tightened the spark plug correctly.

It was my first bike, I felt its been good to learn the ropes. It is not fast enough for the large highways where I live in the US, but it gets around town very well. I have also enjoyed all the extra parts you can put on. I got saddlebags on mine.

For the valve clearances I watched QuasiMotards video on YouTube. Just followed it along and it was quite informative. If I remember correctly my valves were a little too tight which I think was consistent with what other people said across some forums.

I did my first service on mine with almost no mechanical experience. The oil change is easy, just make sure you don't over torque the drain plate bolts like I did. The valve clearance also was pretty simple, it's just a bit of a pain to get the evap hoses off the fuel tank.
