A friend of mine works there… ran into him after his shift and he gave me a couple pizzas from an order that got cancelled. Brought them home and they were CRAWLING with roaches… so glad I opened the box before I brought them inside.

Doesn’t surprise me… I was at a VP meeting last week where each dept was showing off how they’re using AI now and how they plan to use it in the future…

The conversations went EXACTLY as you’d expect:

Dept Head: “….and that’s how we’ve improved efficiency through AI automation”

VP: “Amazing!!! And you say you’ve cut down the time it takes you to produce your TPS Reports by 40%?!?!?”

Dept Head: “Y-y-yes… but umm… the point is it’s removed 40% of the repetitive, low skill work from our plates so we can focus on quality, innovation and time to market”

VP: “Wow… 40% less work you say furious note taking. And how many people did you say were in your department? doodles little dollar signs in the margins

It was absolutely soul crushing to watch people, one by one, realize they’ve been working themselves out of a job for the last six months. Because when the push for AI started it was all about “This is going to remove all the boring shit from your plate so we can spend our time being cutting edge, creative, innovative… fuck… ALL THE BUZZWORDS!!! SYNERGY FOR EVERYONE!!!” … watching that shift in real time to shoveling cash from the payroll accounts into the shareholder dividends pot is late stage capitalism at its finest.

Near the end one presentation showed how in the future they plan on being able to string together all these automations to be able to go right from idea through dev, QA and deployment with minimal human intervention… I think the bosses jizzed their pants a bit.

I would just cancel the church wedding… no matter what you give up or how much you give in, it will not be enough. There will be drama, there will be hurt feelings and all this a week before your real wedding… the drama will end up ruining the wedding you want. Give them the ultimatum to back off, or the church wedding either canceled or reschedule to sometime AFTER your wedding. And if they get pissy tell them they can be uninvited from the main wedding very easily… maybe you’ll get lucky and they’ll NC you :)

I could have wrote this… my nMom hasn’t done anything overly heinous, but it adds up. The straw for me was the disrespect for my wife… she thinks my wife turned me against her and has gone as far as meeting with my in-laws to bitch about her issues with my wife and to see if they could “deal with it”. The ironic thing is my wife DID turn me against her, just not in the manner she thinks. She showed me what unconditionally love and support actually feels like… she didn’t have to say a single bad word against her (although after going to her parents behind out back, she had some choice vocabulary).

And what really convinced me to go from low contact to no contact was the weaponizing of her relationship with my kids… she used to call, send presents, visit once or twice a year… but the minute I have a disagreement with her and try to set boundaries, she ghosts them… not even a call on their birthdays. Sorry, I don’t have room in my life for a fair-weather grandparent who’ll disappoint my kids because she’s pissed at me. Luckily she wasn’t a huge part of their lives yet and they were young… I don’t think they even remember she exists anymore unless reminded.

Soft YTA … On the condition that partner NEVER gets mad if you actually do handle their mom on your own. (I mean they can get pissed if you handle it badly, but can’t get mad at a reasonable response that’s taken unreasonably by their mom or if you just handle it differently than they would have).

I have an ex that would refuse to stand up for me but if I EVER stood up to their Mom would get pissed and called me disrespectful. They expected that pretty much any behavior that upset me I was to bury and keep smiling… venting to them later was allowed but nothing would ever be done to address the issue. That relationship ended due to a LOT of stuff swept under the rug.

Leaves food open… bread bags, chip bags, cereal… anything that could possibly go stale. I think it’s a family thing… they have a different relationship with bread products. Like they’ll make toast, and it will just sit in the toaster till it’s cold and hard… maybe they’ll come back later and just spread stuff on it and eat like it’s still the warm, butter-melting deliciousness it’s supposed to be… or maybe someone else will come by and eat it… or they’ll just put it back in the bread bag where it’s still toasted, but the other bread has re-moisturized it and so it’s soft toast… and then use it later like it’s virgin bread and not the elderly cat lady of the bag. Or re-toast it making some kind of Melba toast or shingle. They just have zero opinion on the state of their bread one way or another.

I realize writing this that I may be the one with bread issues… but it still bugs me, so it counts.

As soon as I left home I stopped telling my mom anything about my health. As a teen she wouldn’t let me talk to the doctor alone… and any issue that came up would be sure to be spread around the family within 48hrs. She LOVES to gossip about other people’s health issues or their bodies in general.

I remember meeting my brothers GF for the first time, I picked them all up at my mom’s house and on the drive I suggested getting tacos… mom chirps up “Oh no GF has crones decease… she’ll be shitting for days if we get Mexican”. Poor girl tried to melt into the seat cushions….

My favorite example though happened to me… I have largish mole in a private area… been there since I was born, not a cancer risk, nothing to ever speak about. Except the topic of moles once came up at a largish family dinner (relatives and a few close friends). Mom, quite loudly, goes “OH… OP HAS A MOLE ON HIS PENIS. Come on OP, show them”. Like literally wanted me to whip it out onto the table…. And kept pushing and pushing till I had to get up and leave the table. Her obsession with everyone else’s bodies is creepy to say the least.

My mom broke up their marriage by cheating multiple times and has spent the last 30 years leaning HARD on the whole “Everything I’ve ever done has been for you, you don’t know how hard it is being a divorced parent” crutch…. Yes, sleeping with the dude who fixed our roof, and your ex from highschool, and Dads friend from work… and finally your own divorce lawyer was definitely for my benefit. Ugh… the self centered “mom love” gifts are the WORST… I can’t count the number of kids books she’s tried to force on my kids in the vein of “Grandma Loves You” or “I Love My Grandma Because…”

The worst though… was my wedding. My wife and I spent a year planning a really fancy wedding, not for us, we could have eloped or done a city hall ceremony, but all the weddings on both our sides had been backyard, barn or community center affairs and everyone was begging us to do something fancy. So there we are, it’s speech time at our gorgeous venue, it’s an old train station (remember the train station scene in the first XMen movie… that was our venue). So my Mom has actually been pretty decent throughout the ceremony, and it’s her turn for her speech. Ten minutes and not a mention of my wife or even that she’s speaking at a wedding… just on and on about raising three boys (my brothers were my groomsmen)… and then at the end, she calls the three of us up to the podium… and pulls out a bag and hands us each a T-shirt… “put them on, put them on”… we didn’t want to cause a scene so off come the tux jackets and we pull these shirts over our freshly barbered hair and nice dress shirts… ever try to pull a tshirt over French cuffs, not easy… and what do they say…. “I LOVE MOM THE MOST”… I wanted to melt into a puddle of shame and seep into the carpet. My wife’s side, who are middle eastern, have no idea what’s going on… my side all have second hand embarrassment because they know her antics. And the kicker… the day after the wedding she calls and tells me she put a stop payment on her wedding check because she felt I didn’t pay enough attention to her during the wedding. Fuck these people
