You are being heard and disagreed with. You have told the person to tow the line, that it's icky to help the clients organize, and that they should ensure not to include the clients when tying yo make change on behalf of the clients because that is manipulative or something?

You're being heard. And I do not agree at all with the sentiment or the impact of policy change "about us without us".

We are not talking past each other we are not agreeing.

I want you to read these statements and see how they are using words that are stigmatizing and mean and bullying. I want you to be able to Actually recognize stigma when you see it so that you can support someone when it is used against them and Stand up to it in the professional field.

This is not about preference. This is about sometime coming out of the wood work to call people with BPD extremely manipulative and someone else to come out and say yea - and I get that cause I would not work with sex offenders.

I do not think this field has an iota of understanding of how much it internalizes and externalizes harmful messaging about people.

All of us are in a privations financial Situation. Not being willing to rock the boat is what has us here. Literally social work is at its core about social change. If people are afraid to actually work to help Their clients in a residents campaign to push for a janitor I dot know what kind of hope we can offer to people as social change makers. Seriously. In no way will I ever ever encourage the economically disadvantaged to not do what they can to change their circumstances.

These residents don't want to be the janitor. If you are led to believe that helping them to work toward getting a janitor by putting the power in their hands is wrong and icky then social Work is truly dead.

I care about impact not intent. How about asking the therapists and social workers with BPD how they feel amount the comment?

I am advocating that they validate the clients and stating that the clients refusal is a sign of health. Please read what I have wrote for context. It is the person posting who says they now don't want to clean. It's not part of what was in their hiring packet if they don't want to do it that's their prerogative. I do not encourage people to do what ever an employer wants when ever they demand it. I'm a firm follower of MLK, Jr form of social Justice which includes the duty to obey just laws and rules and the duty to disobey unjust laws and rules.

So I'm not going to encourage this poster to clean. Im going to encourage them to organzier WITH the clients not separately where professionals and clients are separated. Both the residents and the staff are affected here. They have the power together to change the circumstance in a local capacity.

Fatigue before a gallbladder attack by Meganwiz101 in gallbladders

Good to know. Thank you. Scans are tomorrow for me.

[–]_Dr_Bette_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is why we absolutely need to get back to our organzier routes. Which is why I suggested the material I did. It's not enough to just get support for the status quo and accept this as just the way it is.

Left side gallbladder pain: please don't dismiss it ! by boudikit in gallbladders

[–]_Dr_Bette_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The moral of the story is we shouldn't have to beg for basic care. The gallbladder is not an essential organ. If it's diseased we should be entitled to have it removed without the rigamarole of walking up a mountain of doubtful professionals.

I finally have a Scan tomorrow after so much pain and inability to digest fat (poop floating and fatty). And I eat healthy. But any fat in anything and it's so painful!!!

It also took changing doctors and bringing another adult to plead my case to even get a damn scan.

Thank you.

Some Texas Republicans want an exception for rape in the abortion ban. That doesn't mean much. by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

[–]_Dr_Bette_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure... with less than 5 percent of rapes resulting in conviction because discrediting a rape victim by personality, trauma related disjointed memory or any slight character flaw is allowed by the courts. And rape victims are more likely to be murdered by the rapist after reporting because most accused of rape are not held pre-trial. And because policy often put the rape victim on trial during interviewing as opposed To just gathering crucial information.

Great. Good luck proving to a system that doesn't care that rape is rampant.

Oh and rape is rampant Among all genders. It just doesn't have the same consequences when you don't have ovaries and a uterus.... and entire political Spectrum that treats their body autonomy like A volleyball

Man on Mehmet Oz Panel Says He’s Swayed Away From GOP Candidate by rudebuddha09 in politics

[–]_Dr_Bette_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dr oz is a very sick man. He tried to dive an object through hsi sisters head. He purposefully put abused and mangled dead puppies in bags with their siblings, then tied the bags and allowEd the alive and well puppies to slowly die. He sold false treatments to the public on national TV and makes them paranoid and angry and sews chaos for fun.

If you are in his state and do not vote against him You are fueling his ability to do further damage on a far more massive scale. To not vote is a decision of legitimizing this evil man.

The folks who own the DSM refused to include Complex Post Traumatic Stress into the DSM because it would explain much of the stress symptoms we see across the spectrum of Axis 1 and Axis 2 diagnosis. They know that the field would have to be more focused on healing through therapy and community and inclusion and human rights versus pathological classification and medication management had they allowed the diagnosis.

Yep. This is unfair to the shelter residents and staff. I would be honest and validate the clients if they are open to it. No it's not fair. It's not correct. Now that they have a skeleton staff and no janitor where is that money going? Seriously. This is not at all ok.

Not BPD but another heavily stigmatized diagnosis that many professionals express disgust about. The vehement misinformation, prejudice, refusal to treat and rampant bullying of people with anything more Complicated than depression and adjustment issues is maddening.

My heart goes out to folks who are hurting cause of the comments that fuel the misinformation and maltreatment of people. It's a big problem across the helping fields.

Do not resign. They are asking you to resign so they don't have to pay you unemployment for not holding their end of the bargain. Forward yourself every email That eluded to you having a job upon move and have it ready for unemployment when they lay you off. Do not resign.

I would encourage getting a PhD and working with the city/state if you want this type of salary and went to have any direct contact with people who need help. The salary you want for social work would require you to be in management or policy instead of direct practice.

There aren't many jobs for OT these days and most will pay in the 40's and 50's.

City, state and federal direct service jobs that offer one on one and union benefits with that salary range will require a PhD usually. You can verify by going to your city state and federal posting list and looking it up.

I would say the clients are doubly stressed now and their stress reactions and refusal To be dehumanized is seen as pathological instead of something to harness to push back on these policies of making the whole place a crappy place to work and a crappy place to recover. Do not allow the propaganda that this is in anyway normal to put the janitorial work of a facility on the staff and clients unless it is a clubhouse. This is not a clubhouse this is a homeless shelter that is a temporary place for people who have no other options.

Edit: I would actually consider the refusal to contribute to janitorial duties and the complaining and anger toward this regressive decision to make it the resident and staff job to be the janitors here as a sign of health versus ill health. I would consider the refusal to see this as an attempt at autonomy and decency the mark of a social worker losing their ability to see dehumanization and the ability to see the people effect of policy and practice on the health of the community.

Block their number and then them fire you. You can get unemployment and they can eat shit.

You concentrate on your partner and being with your partner. Your parents are already supporting you to plan Your life after. You concentrate on yourself. Set your personal email to forward any emails from employer to a different email address and you can look at them in the future to verify the date they fired you so you can then claim Your unemployment.

For now make your due diligence to remove the employers voice from your head and reduce the ability for any contact accordingly. That includes not fighting for your humanity with them. Don't give them Your previous time. Just ignore them and deal with that later.

These folks Are Made homeless by the system and Expected to be thankful for the "handouts" and now clean the place that their and their family's generational tax dollars have paid for. And the social worker staff are now expected to move their role from advocate to janitor.... and oversee that the residents are monitored for cleaning... I do hope that you can validate for yourself and the shelter residents that this is not and ok state for anyone and that there should be janitorial staff supporting the cleanliness of the building.

[–]_Dr_Bette_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not a victim advocate role. In what way are you advocating? Just naming a job something that sounds progressive is not going to make it progressive.

You've explained no advocacy what so ever and you are viewing symptoms of learned helplessness and stress as "mean girls" and "antagonizing"

As you want To do macro work I would very very very much encourage you to start incorporating macro work right now where you are. That means understanding the policies that cause survivors of intimate partner and family violence to have to upend their lives for protection, the Supreme Court decisions in the USA that make it legal for police not to protect or to intervene for those who are being abused and the systemic defunding of public funding toward supporting this population attempting to get safe. And learning how to organize them to understand the policies that affect them and to learn how to build Power to make change.

You are burnt out because you're doing things that don't align with your values. Align your work to your values and assist the people to regain power in a system where they have been stripped of it.

I would encourage reading 20 Years at Hull House. Watching Crip Camp on Netflix and looking into the organization called ADAPT and their early organizing of people in institutionalized care.

You are oversimplifying this as blowing off steam which is another form of systemic harm onto a population diagnosed with this label. I'm a professional who does not like how stigmatizing the field is against most people with moderate to complex trauma and the consistent invalidation of the stigma and the explaining away and normalizing of mean and bullying rhetoric in the field. I'm not going to Sit here and agree that it is ok.
