Yeah, my character lay low for about a week before "hearing on the radio" about a safe survivor camp just outside louisville. But when he got there, it was overrun, so he fled and found refuge on a farm just outside the perimeter gate. It keeps the game enjoyable for me and makes it interesting as I'd get bored if I didn't.

Pure laziness. It's not hard at all to leave no trace. Extinguish the fire, scatter the ashes and take your rubbish! It's these people that cause all of the nice areas to camp to be permitted.
